Rumclub Private Selection Ed. 54 2020
Sip this one neat and give it air — that's how tasters got the most out of it. Cane juice from Ghana, but not the ester-monster you'd expect: apple, citrus and honey up front, then a wave of chai-like spice (cinnamon, cardamom, clove) and a dry, slightly smoky, spicy finish. A few found it a touch acidic or "flach," but nearly everyone agreed the 64.3% is buried beautifully.

From community reviews · summarized with AI
Spicy, fruity Ghana cane rum, heat well hidden Well-liked for how invisibly the high ABV sits and its chai-spice-meets-tropical-fruit twist. The catch: a short, acidic finish and a body some call thin for the strength.

Somehow hard to rate this one. It's fruity on the nose, but also toasty and spicy. It stays like that on the palate, with added wood/oak, plus it tastes somewhat slightly sour.
Review by Galli33
A very interesting rum🤔 Notes of sugarcane and classic floral/vegetal notes typical of an Agricole or pressed sugarcane rum are nowhere to be found here. Still, it presents a solid picture. The alcohol is not well integrated. A few drops of water help.

8,2:On the nose, sugar cane, flowery and grassy, spices like cardamom and clove, citrus and tropical fruits like pineapple, green apple, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the wood is slightly roasted with nuts, spicy with cinnamon and vanilla, salty, the fruits are slightly rotten with banana, as the cane is sweet with honey, a bit vegetal, mineral. 7,9:On the palate, the attack is intense, dry with spicy, slightly roasted, smoky wood notes like cinnamon, vanilla, cardamom, nuts, fruity with pineapple, pears and citrus fruits, as the cane is sweet with honey, grassy. 8:The finish is medium long, dry, the cane is grassy, flowery, mineral, pairing tropical fruits, overripe, like banana, papaya, pineapple and various smoky, spicy roasted wood notes. Edit:5.4.26

In the smell still fresh and grassy with honey-sweet sugarcane notes and only a gentle spice underpinning, in the taste after an initial sour ester attack a decent fruit package, then drifting more and more towards spices. Unfortunately, I find no fruit at all in the rather dry finish. Definitely an exciting profile I would like to try more of.

A rum tasted at the GRF in 2025. Masterclass RumClub. A beautiful nose, refined and elegant, with fresh and overripe tropical fruits. A rather pure nose but lacking some power. The entry on the palate is disappointing compared to the nose, but everything comes back quite quickly: fresh and ripe fruits, spices, and alcohol. The alcohol becomes more and more noticeable, the finish is long and elegant. The first sip is the weak point of this rum.

Ghana is always exciting in my opinion. But this one leans a bit too much towards fruit brandy or pear schnapps. But basically not too bad, a nice change from the usual blandness for in-between.
Review by Skyfly
Fruity nose with sugar cane and spices. On the palate, instead of citrus fruits and green apple, tropical fruits and various Christmas spices such as cinnamon, cardamom and vanilla. The subtle roasted aroma turns into a ravenous aroma in the finish. The alcohol is perfectly integrated; the 64.3% is not noticeable

After Nanny and Cudjoe with Jamaican influence, this time a "pure" rum from Ghana. Nice citrus fruits on the nose, it feels relatively smooth. On the palate fruity and spicy, also quite relaxed here and far from the rather brutal Nanny blends. Nice bottling.

Tasting on 19.07.2026 Rum Club Depot tasting 6.0 Organized by Mr. Kevin Sørensen. RX 24151 Ghana 2020 Nose: Light sugarcane, faint yellow fruit, bright flowers, light barrel and smoke, subtle citrus and vanilla notes. Palate: Spicy green - red pepper, hay light grass, mineral salts. Light bittersweet overripe fruit. A hint of vanilla and nut. The finish is mineral salty, sugarcane and hay with a faint grass note, overripe mirabelle with a slight plum. Light smoke and barrel, spicy pepper. Light bright floral notes. Ends with light sweetness, hay and salt. The glass: Light hay and barrel, slightly sour pipe tobacco, a bit of unripe green apple. Tasting “In the bed”

Ghana rum, always a nice change. Quite young, I'm curious. Nose: clearly from sugarcane juice. Slightly fermented fruity, with an interesting smoky note. Tropical fruits and citrus fruits balance with grass and herbs. Honey sweetness makes it smooth, a light peppery note spicy. It's okay, 7.6 Palate: quite strong; initially salty with lemon peel. Sweetish and at the same time bitter. Fermented fruit is also found here. Seems a bit burnt. Towards the end more herbs and slightly grassy. For me a bit too salty-bitter. 7.4
Review by Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓
Subtly fruity on the nose (light fruit), becoming sweeter and more palatable on the palate. One should not be misled by the initial unimpressiveness. Smoky and woody on the finish. Not the crusher like the Nanny or the Cudjoe, rather sweeter and more pleasing and not recognizable as Ghanaian from the outside. What really stands out is the incredibly good integration of the alcohol. I didn't want to give the rum 80 points at first, but fortunately I was patient enough and it is becoming more and more appealing.
Review by Chrischi78
Fruity-fresh on the nose with apple, citrus, vanilla, and spices. Sweet and spicy on the palate, the 64% is well integrated. Medium-long finish with clove, cinnamon, pepper, and fruity notes of papaya and pineapple.
Review by Felix Reiber
On the nose, the rum from Ghana is extremely fruity, fresh, and pleasantly spicy. There's a lot going on from apple and citrus fruits to vanilla, honey, and spices like cinnamon and cloves. It's just as exciting on the palate, where the spicy side is emphasized after the start comes off sweet and drinkable. The well-integrated 64% provides a nice intensity and a warm mouthfeel. The short to medium finish scores again with clove, cinnamon, pepper, and barrel notes, which then reveal the fruity side with papaya and pineapple. Very pleasing and interesting. Thanks to @Alex Kunath for the great sample.

Tasting at "Basecamp" on 30.07.2026 Samples from Rum Depot. 👌 Nose on an adventure👃: I sense full throttle on citrus! Green apples and sugarcane. Light grass Tongue on an adventure 🥃: I taste strong and warm and plenty of citrus! Generally sour fruits, sugarcane and light pineapple, light notes of tropical fruits and barrel influence The tail of the story💫: Star anise, dry and smoky barrel and light caramel.

Sweet, fragrant start with vanilla, honey and citrus fruits. On the palate you immediately recognize the sweetness with a little punch, which then transforms into fruit and spice with a pleasant play of acidity. The finish is very pleasant, you don't notice the 64% at all. I'm looking forward to more older bottlings from Ghana. Many thanks for the sample

A rum from Ghana - until now, one mainly knew a few ester monsters from there, which honestly were quite interesting but not outstanding due to the Jamaica surplus. This bottling surprises me at first. Few classic esters, although quite fruity, but with exciting spice notes. Above all tonka bean, cinnamon, a bit of vanilla and maybe some clove and cardamom. Otherwise, unfortunately a bit flat and wild, although the 64% ABV is not overly noticeable. Nice to see that versatility can be expected from Ghana, this makes me look forward to the future!

Exciting rhum from Ghana! However, I find the younger, less aged ones almost more exciting...

30-08-2025 - Rate 7.5 German Rum Festival 2nd Rumclub Private Selection of the festival. Have only tasted a few Ghana rums before. This is a good rum. High ABV, which compliments the rum very nicely. Nose of apple, citrus, tropical fruits and spices. Palate with tropical fruits, pineapple, oak and spices. Medium finish dominated by spices and wood. 06-06-2026 - Rate 7.8 Rumclub Private Selection tasting Sønderborg.
Review by Nils123
Very fruity and tasty. Since the alcohol is very well integrated, the rum feels very easy to drink. The fine cinnamon notes go perfectly with the fruitiness. With water, it becomes spicier but also slightly bitter.
Review by DosenZorn
Alcohol not noticeable on the nose, plus vanilla, sugarcane/grassy agricole style, apple, apricot. On the palate quite sour. There the alcohol content is well integrated but noticeable. Smoky finish.
Review by FischeJ
You don't notice the 64.3% ABV at all. Nose of vanilla, slightly grassy, orange and apple. Very similar on the palate. A bit more acidity and dry. You hardly notice the alcohol content on the palate either. Good bottling.

And on to the #54, Canejuice from Ghana. Totally new to me. On the nose: Citrus notes dominantly. Green apples. Floral notes. Canejuice notes are in the background. Dryish. High abv is integrated very well. Taste: Much more spices and agricole notes on the taste. Oak. I get acidic notes that break the palate for me. These some vanilla notes in there and hints of cinnamon. Quite light bodied for a high abv rum Dry and spicy finish. Quality is there, but these flavours dont really work for my palate. But still, quite interesting experience.

A really good rum with an exceptional price-performance ratio.

Rumclub with its Edition 54 and as far as I counted correctly with the 3rd Ghana (after Nanny and Cudjoe). Even if the comparison with Nanny isn't quite fair, Nanny remains the benchmark for me. Still a tasty Störchen, although there's a bit of acidity in the finish. The alcohol is well integrated but becomes noticeable if the sip is too big. I wish for another Nanny.
Review by GuybrushThreepwood
First nose very spicy. Reminds me directly of a chai. Briefly went into the kitchen and smelled the chai. Yes. There are similarities. Cinnamon, cardamom, clove. After a while, some lime zest and sugar cane aromas join in. With more time and air, I also got something like pencil shavings and possibly tonka bean? I had the latter in a bottling from Amburana Wood a while ago. It warms the mouth immediately and salivation sets in straight away. The fireworks of spices continue and I'm reminded of chai again. The alcohol is really well integrated. Doesn't taste like well over 60% ABV. Blindly I would have guessed early to mid 50%. The "relationship" to a (briefly) matured Agricole is recognizable, but it's a different world. The finish is long, spicy, dry and a little peppery. In addition to the previous notes, there is now a hint of aniseed or something similar.

I like the nose well with nice sweet notes with fruits like elderberry and apricot. Here the rum is well positioned. On the palate more spice and wood influence. Alcohol is very well integrated. Finish a bit short. But overall an interesting bottling, but one sample is definitely enough.
Review by Mentalo
A young rum from Ghana that RumClub has brought to the market. Subtle fruit notes and spices. A light smoky note comes through in the finish. The alcohol is well integrated. Definitely exciting to follow the development outside the traditional rum nations.

Review by Carlitooo
After some Ghana tastings, the rum was already particularly good. The alcohol content is pleasantly integrated, typical fruitiness and already a lot of wood compared to the often younger bottlings.
Review by R Wehner
Nose hardly any agricole character at first, instead wood and tropical fruits; tongue complex, lots to taste, strong attack, similar to the nose, hardly any agricole to taste, nice sweetness, fruity, woody spice, long fruity finish, can handle water, opens up even more then.
Review by Balu
My expectations for a rum made from sugarcane juice were different. The fruitiness and sweetness surprised me a lot. The alcohol is very well integrated and 64.3% is not in the foreground.
