Note: Employment at Perola GmbH (spirits industry), partial professional involvement with evaluated bottlings. All reviews are my personal, unpaid opinion. Extremely round for 37 years tropical aging... awesome number and an absolute exceptional Panama rum! In blind tasting, one could easily confuse it with some Demeraras. Towards the end, it gets a very crazy, slightly bitter note of Maggi herb and mint and old sherry. Unusually complex for Panama. Definitely a rum you should take your time with...

Great Panama rum. Much more balanced than the already quite bitter Rumclub and with a nice overall profile - dried fruit, wood, well-balanced sweetness and subtle spicy notes. A very positive surprise!

Profile of chocolate, wood, plums, dried red fruits, dates, sweetish with vanilla and baking spices. Leathery finish with roasted coffee and tobacco, some smoke. Second tasting: must put things into perspective here. Still a very good, tasty rum. For me, much better than all the old Cuba rums from 2024.

Wow, a strange tasting weekend where, unbelievably, a Bristol-Cubaner with sherry finish (RX5451) wins my favor and overshadows this venerable Panamá. 🙄 On the nose, I found the Bellamy's Panamá very restrained, if not weak. On the palate, however, it was clearly too woody. I also experienced an unexpectedly strong astringency for a Panamanian rum. For me, unfortunately, the rum was over the top and I didn’t finish the sample (what a philistine I am 🤷♂️😉). Update 2025-11-11: Once again, I have to apologize: this rum is subjectively and objectively much better than the 72 points I gave it three years ago. Today I see it as a prime example of Spanish-style rum. And the woodiness that I didn’t like back then doesn’t feel excessive anymore; it’s a very pleasant, special woodiness. Good to have the chance to revise your opinion. Update 2026-10-22: And another big upgrade, this time by 4 points from 85 to 89! I appreciate this rum more and more. By now, it’s the incarnation of the Spanish style for me, simply perfect. Today’s cherry on top is the smell the empty glass gives off after tasting: completely surprising, but definitely blackcurrant jam!

By far the best rum from Panama that I personally have ever drunk. Creamy soft and yet full of character. The long-lasting aroma makes the rum complete. I drank the last sip of this leather today

Another of the nice rums in the tasting today A really nice 37 year old with a lot of coffee notes. The colour is all natural and no added sugar either. An amazingly good rum with a bit of a price tag, but still well within the value of the quality offered. Can be hard to get your hands on, so if you get the chance, grab it

Very old Panama. Almost too old. I have dark wood, coffee notes, some tobacco. Not my thing, but it will surely have its fans. Heavy rum for winter evenings. On the 2nd tasting somewhat more agreeable and rounder. However, it still doesn't fully convince me.

Very full-bodied and complex rum, which positively shows its age. Beautiful spicy barrel aromas, the taste of dried fruits and notes of cocoa are just a small part of the flavor spectrum. There may be more complex rums of this age, but this rum is worth it alone due to availability! Edit: Surprisingly herbal on the second tasting. Overall a bit less balanced than the Rum-Club Panama, which brings significantly more depth with one year less. But it scores again on the finish, the dried plums linger long!

This is a rich one. On the nose maybe not too exciting but pleasant, but on palate it is quite dense, intense, spicy. I added some drops of water to make it lose the bite, also touch bitter without. With water it's more balanced, though the nose disappears. Quite a long finish. Thank you Jury for the sample.

Extremely complex nose: lots of wood, vanilla, very fruity for its age, chocolate, caramel, roasted aromas, but also an earthy herbal note. In the mouth just as balanced and complex, with fruits playing a rather minor role. The finish brings more caramel, simply delicious and a very good rum.

Unfortunately, the sample from Rumclub Panama for KDW has been empty for a long time, but from my memory no significant differences. Very round, wood (but not as much as expected for 37 years), dried fruits, spicy, coffee and dark chocolate. Very nice bottling and so far the best Panama has to offer.

Mahogany Smell: Sweet, dark and heavy with coffee, old wood and semi-bitter chocolate. Raisins, rum-grape-nut chocolate and Mon Cherie. Alcoholic. Taste: Full-bodied and round in the mouth. When swallowing then spicy and very woody with aromas of coffee, tobacco, toffee and chocolate. Finish: Medium length Light sweetness, toffee, coffee and tobacco. Very woody and slightly bitter in the aftertaste. 87 points

Wow, well I'm no fan of the Spanish... but this is the best Panama I've tried so far. Chocolate, dried fruits, leather, coffee... and I also find some blackberry. Really very nice.

Great old rum from Panama. Because of its age it has a lot of depth, a certain heaviness and a nice complexity. Of course you taste and smell a lot of cask, it shouldn't have aged any longer. Great notes of dark chocolate and leather.

Great, very inviting nose! Very soft on the palate, flavor-wise it goes towards dried fruits and caramel like Rumclub Ed. 46, but softer and rounder on the palate despite the 61%. A very good rum, but priced too high.

Ooh, nice dark color. Blind I would guess Barbados at first. Quite creamy, vanilla, coconuty, chocolate, sweet spices, wood and it later developes fruity notes. Nicely balanced, complex... 37 years... is this how long you have to age Panama rum in order to get something great? The best Panama I have tasted so far. There are definitely more great Panamian rums, I just happen to avoid it :-D

Really well done! An excellent rum from Panama, 37 years and 61%, but exceptionally round. Nose of vanilla, spices, sweetness mixed with tobacco: delicious! Minimal cask influence and perfectly integrated alcohol.
