One taster put it best: "super weird." This unaged Cap Verde grogue smells fruity and floral, then turns hard vegetal on the palate — sake, cucumber, olive, a meaty smokiness and a bitter, fermented edge. Several place it near Paranubes or clairin. People either find it fascinating or slightly off-putting; the alcohol reads a touch rough for a few.

On the nose canned corn, garlic, sake, fermented, floral, vegetable, pepper, sour fruits.On the palate light with fermented, sake, roasted garlic, vegetable, pepper, cucumber, savory and pumpkin. Peculiar, but not for me, too much garlic.

A pleasant rum, perhaps good for a Ti' Punch, but nothing extraordinary. Medium persistence and in my opinion too much hint of sake and a very distant smokiness. Unsuitable for tasting at a certain level, it remains a lighthearted rum. Still, it is always good to experiment with new distillates. Rum from sugarcane juice with 10% from molasses.

I was curious about that one, following the announcement of a couple of rums from Cabo Verde by Habitation Velier. On the nose it has aromas of sugarcane, olive and I can feel a slight acidity. On the palate, there is an interesting meaty smokiness coming through (but not like on Le Rocher). Finale is slightly bitter and herbal. It's a decent rum, price might be a bit high depending where you find it. I really feel like it's current grade of 7 doesn't do it justice.

Not bad, reminds me a bit of stuff like Paranubes. Very fresh with olives and vegetal notes. Friend says the finish reminds him of oysters (don’t like oysters so I can’t really tell) Was told that it’s distilled with a wood fire, which makes for an interesting story. Seems more powerful, but it says 45%.

A charming nose of fermented cane, very floral. It's a far cry from what I'm used to from agricultural rums. It's earthy, like after mowing wet grass. It's fresh and fruity, with red fruits (cherry) and a hint of olive. There's a Clairin style, rather sweet and smoky-salty. It's not incredible on the nose, tending towards sake, but it's quite nice and you want to taste it. On the palate, the attack is soft, even restrained. It's less fruity and more herbaceous. There's that olive note again, a bit like Savanna.

Sake, but different from Nine Leaves (very "contaminated"). Fermented fruit. Melon, cucumber, some overripe cheese on the finish.

3 Grogues in comparison: Barbosa, M&G, Vulcao... all naturally very similar... Nose: vegetal, fermented fruit, vinegar. Seems a bit drier and earthier than the others. Sake and Mezcal, a bit more towards Sake. Beetroot juice with some cucumber and sauerkraut alongside but also fruity sweetness from grapes or cherries. Some bacon notes come through. Palate: resinous, slightly watery, anise. And clearly vegetal. Touch of Sake and Mezcal. Somewhat artificial and slightly smoky. Grogue remains something quite special, comparable to Clairin. You have to like it. But I like challenges.

super weird! on the nose very fruity, berry, fresh.... in the taste then cucumber, pumpkin, bitter melon and date oat cookies?! in addition strangely smoky and again discreetly reminiscent of mezcal and sake. in the finish dominates for me the cucumber and bitter melon, but is also somewhat creamy in the direction of cookie dough. pure cuts it off quite well in the daiquiri again dominates the bitterness and is just not a round thing. too bad.

5.3.2026 Casa Havana Prague smells at first like a dead squirrel or when it's pissed off in the corner, then like overripe juicy fruit, it's very wild, very intense and long tastes like fruity brandy, juicy, full of fruit
