Cadenhead's Classic Rum 2008

"Nicht drin was drauf steht" — the label says Barbados, but nearly everyone here tastes Guyana, likely Enmore or Diamond. Expect ristretto coffee, bitter chocolate, oak, dried banana, dates and licorice, with a light sweetness and an oily body. Roasted, spicy and leathery, with a faint smoke that builds. At 50% the alcohol sits well in the glass.

How does Cadenhead's Classic Rum 2008 taste?

From community reviews · summarized with AI

Roasted, chocolatey Guyana-style sipper (label says Barbados) Loved by most despite the mislabeling — a woody, roasted, chocolate-and-dried-fruit dram that reads far more like Guyana than Barbados. One taster ordered two more bottles.

Trade fair evaluation GRF14 Edit: Post-tasting at home. Really great for the price. Very spicy, some plum, licorice and a slight smoky note develops over time. The same game on the palate. The alcohol is well integrated.

Bar Caribbean Club Barcelona May 2026. Yes, the good Cadenhead's Classic Rum. It's a very nice rum. There's a light sweetness here, along with chocolate and caramel, but we also get some wood, spice, and roastiness.

Definitely clearly Guyana. On the nose, it’s like an "Enmore/KFM/REV" blend. On the palate: ristretto coffee, dark chocolate, wood, dried bananas, dates, and licorice. Nice subtle sweetness and a mild finish.

Either this Cadenheads Classic is a very unusually tasting Barbados rum or it is a blend combined with Guyana rum. The nose is very pleasant and spicy fruity. Caramel, roasted notes, chocolate, dried fruits, spicy cask notes, vanilla, and licorice lead over to plum, nougat, and allspice. It creates a full, creamy impression. On the palate, the creaminess is confirmed. Sweet caramel, chocolate, wood, dried fruits, and nougat transition into a spicy direction with cask notes, leather, malt, licorice, and roasted tobacco, while maintaining the oily texture. I would almost say there is a Colombian influence. The medium-long finish is characterized by wood, chocolate, caramel, toasted beer dough, dried fruits, tobacco, and again cask notes. A very tasty and easy-to-drink rum with a nice body and lush spice.

Whoever at Cadenhead thought it was a good idea to have the intern do the label - nope. It was not a good idea. Definitely not Barbados, much more Guyana REV. Initially bitter influences on the nose, which give way to roasted aromas over time, caramel and dark chocolate. Light chocolatey sweetness on the palate and tongue, strong leather and slightly mentholated notes, almost like eucalyptus. The finish is very spicy, allspice and vanilla with a slight bitterness reminiscent of black tea with bergamot - Earl Grey or Ceylon leaf

Not Barbados 🇧🇧, but yes Guyana 🇬🇾. On the nose is like a "Enmore/KFM/REV" blend. On the taste, coffee ristretto 😋, bitter chocolat, wood, dried bananas & date & licorice. If you like the Diamond 2008 Rum Club, you will enjoy this Cadenheads 🤩

Tasted at Rum Depot and GRF 2025 As other have pointed out, the label mentioned carribean, but the consensus is that it is a run from Guyana. Apparently, this happened more often with Cadenhead. The rum tastes like a typical rum from Guyana, to me, specifically Enmore. Caramel (burnt) has the upper hand. A very pleasant rum. The second time, the rum still held up very well against other samples I tried during the festival.

Überraschend gut, viel Guyana, schöne Süße, nur ein paar Prozente fehlen ihm. Vermutlich Diamond vom Stil, aber was genau abgefüllt wurde, bleibt wohl ein Gehemnis :)

Nose: roasted, coffee, spicy, a bit woody and a little licorice. Taste: also coffee, spicy, woody, tobacco comes in. The finish is medium-length. The alcohol is very well integrated.

Not what it says on the label. Definitely not Barbados. But a tasty rum, probably from Guyana. The sweetness isn’t subtle, but the fruits like banana are very present. Wood, leather, and caramel.

Cadenhead’s Classic Rum (Barbados) 2008 16Y – 50% Behind this "Classic Rum" label hides a Barbadian rum distilled in 2008. A profile surprisingly far from our usual Barbadian standards: you do find the crème brûlée, the woodiness, and the peppery notes, but above all an unusual smoky dimension. 100% pot still like Foursquare 2001? Atypical cask not mentioned? Or just a sloppy label from the intern...? Anyway, the profile almost reminds me of some Demerara rums. For my part, I really like it!
