Distilia Enmore Guyana Rum (Horses) MEV 1985
Sip this one slowly, neat, and give it air — everyone here does. A 36-year Enmore off the wooden pot still, it's all old dusty wood, pencil shavings, tobacco and dry leather, with apricot, black tea and eucalyptus threading through. At 50.4% the alcohol is barely there; several tasters say they can't feel it at all. Bitter-dry on the close, deeply layered, and clearly built for slow evenings rather than any glass in a hurry.

From community reviews · summarized with AI
Old dusty-wood Enmore, tea, tobacco, pencil The consensus is near-reverent: a complex, elegant old Enmore that reveals something new each sip. One taster likened it to an old Velier Albion. The finish runs a touch dry.

A real dream of a rum. Super complex from nose to finish and yet not too overloaded, but extremely harmonious. The typical Guyana markers dominate, with eucalyptus adding a certain freshness. Dried plum, but also tropical fruits, leather, tobacco, wood and black tea are perceptible in varying strengths from nose to finish. Burnt sugar provides the sweetness, with a hint of caramel; candied fruit on the finish. Very light esters and some varnish on the nose and palate. Alcohol? - You just don't feel it at all, it's so well integrated. Unfortunately, this makes the finish a little shorter than desired, but it's still terrific!

👀 Oily, greasy tears running down the glass. Old gold color with green reflections. 👃 I feel like I'm wandering in a cellar storing old plum eaux-de-vie, fine Champagne, and old Gewurztraminer. It's magnificent. It gives an impression of old esters, noble varnish, alcohol vapors softened by residual sugar. Then come apricots and candied yellow lemons, beeswax, lotus flower notes intertwined with scents of freshly cut herbs and eucalyptus. The long aging brings aromas of tobacco leaves, black tea, lots of black tea, and dusty leather. At no point am I bothered by the alcohol level. Such elegance, refined and balanced. 😋 More intense and concentrated, I get a whole range of mountain herb candies (Gentian, Arnica), licorice gums, poached pears, little rose meringues in a bag. A surprising freshness appears, with essential oils of pine, peppermint, eucalyptus, ginger, and candied yellow lemon. Some subtle notes of pencil tip, varnish, light glue, and old esters close the tasting journey. ⛳ It becomes more astringent, dry, bitter, without being disturbing. This herbaceous freshness stretches out, still on those little mountain candies that coat the palate with their sugars. Soft spices, light coffee, tobacco leaves, and a noble, dry woodiness complete the picture. You wish it would last even longer. 🏆 You feel the weight of age, the barrel work on the distillate, the years that have truly transformed this rum. A complex and layered bottling made for exceptional moments, which will need time to be fully appreciated.

#6477 12.03.2026 I need something good that I won't spit out 🥰 This is a wonderful bottling with nice complexity. Wood and ABV is very well integrated. The nose is balanced with roasted wood, light mint, dried fruits and anise. There is a light pencil shaving note as well. The palate is oily and fresh with roasted wood, light mint, anise, leather, pencil shavings and light apple. The finish is very long and woody with dried fruit, herbs and mint.

Very special, but a dreamlike, typical 85 Enmore profile. Lots of pencil, dry, clear barrel influence, marzipan, rather astringent on the finish.

Thanks to Skyfly for the sample. A very healthy and herbal Versailles, I'm quite surprised by the profile. It has pencil shavings, but it's not very PM-ish either. There are some dried fruits like dried plum, but main aromas are black tea, tobacco and wood. There's a very nice complexity, I really like it a lot but it's quite dry, for sure not a rum for everyone.

Typical Versaille profile from 1985: the expected pencil shavings dominate the picture, but are flanked by spices, tea and subtle fruity notes. The wood and the ageing reveal themselves with a slight astringency, without leading to too strong bitter notes. An excellent Versailles representative, somewhat more harmonious than the Artesanal from the same vintage, which is even more expressive in its mineral pencil aromas - a matter of taste as to which release has the edge. For me, a duel at eye level.

Ode to Enmore 1985 Greenheart For this enmore horses There are rums that speak, and rums that whisper in layers, revealing a new secret with every moment. And then there was Enmore 1985 Greenheart reborn in this horses. A monument of time, wood, and craftsmanship. From the moment the cork is free, it breathes the soul of ancient forests: pine, cedar, and eucalyptus rising like memories from centuries-old greenheart wood. A hint of petrol and mineral depth adds a raw, almost mystical character, while fresh herbs , sage, parsley, chives ,drift through this aromatic woodland like bright green accents. On the palate it unfolds slowly, with the dignity of a spirit that has waited 36 years to tell its story. A soft spiciness carries tea-like bitterness, earth, and tobacco; then that silky, thin oily texture emerges, refined and deliberate. Notes of anise, liquorice, pepper, and a touch of vanilla weave through noble, understated wood …gently toasted, never overwhelming. Honey, pear, molasses, and caramel glide forward like warm memories, rounded by subtle tannins and the bitterness of nuts. The finish lingers like an echo: resinous, slightly medicinal, touched with seaweed and salt as if the ocean itself pauses to say goodbye. Everything melts into a long, calm exhale of wood, spice, and dark sweetness. The Enmore 1985 is not a rum you simply drink. It is a rum you encounter, a spirit shaped by a wooden still, carried by time, refined into balance and depth. An ode to tradition, to complexity, to the patience required to create something truly exceptional. A rum that never shouts, but in its quiet elegance becomes immense. Thx to bottle the last part to be history

Complex from beginning on nose till the end at finish! One can explore new characteristics every sip. Tropical fruits, glue, esters, tabacco, molasses, caramel, nuts, vanilla, anise, pepper, burnt suggar, anize, eucalyptus and much much more after every sip. Slight bitterness and wood too. Alcohol well integrated. Dream rum.

I've rarely experienced this aromatic profile in a rum, even an Enmore. Feels like entering an antique shop. A side of precious wood mixed with notes of beeswax, graphite. Some pastry aromas, dates and spices. Atypical, but so good!!!
