Don't expect wild Jamaican funk here — at nearly 29 years old this Long Pond has calmed down. The glue and solvent still show on the nose alongside banana and pineapple, but the palate leans on oak, menthol, spice and a touch of butterscotch, with the 58.7% alcohol sitting well-integrated. Several tasters call it rounded and archival rather than a raw ester bomb.

8,8:On the nose, esters, glue and solvents, tropical fruits like banana, pineapple, red and yellow fruits, citrus with orange, roasted wood, spicy with allspice, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the molasses is fresh with tea, herbaceous, industrial notes like rubber and petrol are out, some oak, nuts and dark chocolate. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is fruity with tropical fruits like banana, citrus fruits, menthol and roasted wood notes like butterscotch, confectionery with pastry, biscuits, spicy with allspice, as the molasses is grassy, herbaceous.When the rum is well oxidized, berries and some rubber arise. 8,5:The finish is long, dry, slightly medicinal, as roasted wood notes, oaky, spicy, are paired with tropical, citrus fruits and fresh, grassy molasses...

Ist gut dieser Long Pond, etwas zu scharfkantig, ansonsten echt gut. In der Nase erinnert er an Hampden mit Ananas, Banane, Ester, Klebstoff und Lösungsmitteln. Am Gaumen dann schon eher Long Pond erkennbar, dank des Karamells.

Ein klassischer LP der alle typischen Marker mitbringt. Die (vor allem Tropischen) Früchte sind genauso vorhanden wie die Ester, bzw. der Lack. Da sich Holz und Gewürze noch im Hintergrund befinden wäre es gut gewesen den Rum noch länger im Fass zu lassen

Today a wild blind tasting. 1: very light fruity. Reminds of fruit brandy. Sharp, alcoholic. Could be an unbalanced Australian or an unusual finish. 2: already a completely different league. Dark fruits, smooth and oily on the palate. Warm finish. Could be a long-aged Savanna. 3: heavy on the palate, woody dark-fruity, oily pleasant. Finish a bit woody and relatively short. 4: awesome wild one! It will have plenty of power, dirty complex, fruit puree...

Advent calendar plantation/planteray Zdeněk Polách 2025 Here we have another advent weekend and we start with one of the three gems of Prestige Cellar for the Czech Republic: Jamaica 1996 HJC. This is a rum distilled on a double retort pot still at the Long Pond distillery in Jamaica, where it further matured for 21 years in bourbon barrels. It was then transported to France and filled into cognac casks, where it rested for another 7 years before we had the chance to taste it and got excited about it. Then it was stored in the same cask in the Prestige cellar for another year before it reached bottles and our glasses. In taste, it is not the wild Jamaica you would recognize at first; after all, it is an almost twenty-nine-year-old rum, a beautiful archival piece with perfectly integrated alcohol and a full mature flavor in which you can feel spices, wood, leather rather than ester wildness. Bottled at 58.7%, and good news is that next week a few triplets will be "broken up," so fans of specific bottles will be able to buy only those and not the whole set of all three bottles. #plantadvent2025

Krásně zakulacená jamajka. Nádherná mahagonová barva, vůně karamelu, přezrálých banánů. Alkohol sem dobrě integrovaný. Rozhodně za to stojí a je moc dobrý.

Ve vůni celkem zajímavý Long Pond (tropické ovoce, estery, lepidlo, koření, chuť už tak zajímavá není, je v ní výrazné dřevo a mentol, trocha sladkosti a pečené tóny. Na ochutnání asi OK, na koupi láhve existují lepší.
