Menthol is the twist nobody expects from a Clarendon — cool camphor and black-tea mint riding over the usual glue, nail polish and varnish. Underneath sits roasted oak, allspice and a basket of tropical and dried fruit, all dry and long on the finish. A few tasters mistook it for Long Pond or even a TECA-finished cask, it's that unusual. The one recurring wish: a touch more punch at 54%.

8,4:On the nose, a combination of glue, nail polish and varnish, low esters roasted wood, spicy with allspice, bananas, green apples, some petrol, camphor and flowery molasses, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, mango, citrus and maracuja arise, rubber and tea. 8,2:On the palate, the attack is fruity with overripe tropical fruits like mango, citrus and yellow fruits, later dried fruits, medicinal with low esters, nail polish, rubber, some camphor, as the wood is roasted with confectionery, butterscotch, spicy with allspice and slightly salty, the molasses is flowery, grassy and herbaceous. 8,4:The finish is long, balanced, dry, medicinal with glue, fruity with various fruits, the wood is roasted with butterscotch, sour dough bread, spicy, slightly smoky.The molasses is fresh with tea, grassy..

At the first sip, I really thought this could be a T.D.L, but then quite a bit of Jamaica also comes through. Besides ester, you can also detect glue, polish, and nail varnish. Very medicinal.

Very pleasant Clarendon with a basket of both tropical and dried fruits, as well as lots of mint, wood, esters and a mix of varnish and glue - somewhat reminiscent of furniture polish.

Very intense but also unusual Clarendon! Lots of camphor, menthol, leather polish, plus overripe, slightly bitter citrus fruits and surprisingly meaty, umami notes. Almost has a slight TECA vibe, as if an old Clarendon was finished in a Long Pond TECA cask. Basically delicious and well made but a little too extreme for me personally! 😅

Lovely MMW with a soft menthol edge and a beautifully balanced profile throughout. The nose hits with tropical funk and floral overtones, while the palate brings a nice citrus-medicinal-licorice combo that’s clean, not overbearing. The finish is fruity, spicy and gently minty / mentholy. adding a refreshing touch. Only gripe? I wish the ABV packed a bit more punch and complexity. Still, this is a classy, well-executed Clarendon that earns its 8.6 without hesitation.

Advent calendar plantation/planteray Zdeněk Polách 2025 The second Advent Sunday deserves a special rum and that is undoubtedly Planteray Jamaica MMW 1998 Prestige Cellar Cask pro Warehouse 1. An amazing molasses pot still rum from the Clarendon distillery, aged 21 years in the tropics in bourbon casks, then transported to France where it rested another 5 years in Ferrand cognac casks in Javrezac and another year resting in the Prestige Cellar directly at Chateau de Bonbonet before bottling. Just like yesterday, it is a true rum gem; an old honest distillate with perfectly integrated alcohol, wonderfully smelling of wood, spices and leather (probably this confused most guessers and led them to another destination). The taste is also beautifully balanced, with typical technical kanagon, wood, cinnamon, but at the same intensity you also find fruity notes. Yesterday’s and today’s rum show why last January we couldn’t choose which of these rums was better. When we stood with Jan Albrecht CigaRum by those casks and tasted one and then the other, it felt like a fairy tale. When Aleksandra Lavrova confirmed that she would release all three casks for our fans and Jiri Rabel gave the thumbs up, it was a happy end through and through and thanks again for that. For me, all three of these bottles belong to the TOP10 rums in terms of price/story/quality that appeared on the rum market this year. #plantadvent2025

#7432 11.10.2026 Relaxing with some samples while listening to some nice Trance on Spotify. Nice and intense profile rum. Fruity, overripe, ester, roasted wood, polish, spice, chocolate, coffee, natural sweetness, nutts, leather, light tannins.

I don't like Clarendons but this is quite good. Maybe because it seems to me quite different, more like Long Pond.
