Pre-gaming before the upcoming small Nordlichter tasting. 😉 Yeah, I know, too early and too high alcohol content to start. 🤭 But awesome! (Also color-wise) like a medicinal root essence from the deepest Australian bush. Let's see what the other Nordlichter say about it soon. I like it anyway. Update 2026-05-09, 4th GAF Stuttgart: I don't just like this rum because of its raw power. How can you integrate over 72% alcohol so well!? For me, this rum also has a unique feature due to its kumquat-bergamot note. Very unusual, very appealing. Raised from 85 to 88 points.

Crosstasting 2007 Beenleigh with RX10370 Duchess RX16467 Silver Seal RX14046 Nobilis RX24349 Bottleshop At first, all are quite closed on the nose. They need time in the glass. The Duchess and Nobilis develop a nice fruity pear/peach note. The Bottleshop joins in later with the same but more muted note. The Silver Seal remains quite closed until the end. On the palate, the Duchess continues this play of aromas, paired with some wood and spice. Very good. The Silver Seal comes across much bolder and spicier. At first, the fruit is also clearly recognizable here. The Nobilis is the fruitiest here. It is very similar to the Duchess. What all three share, however, is the fairly well-integrated alcohol. The Bottleshop is fruity at first, but then the alcohol bites quite strongly. It only allows very small sips. Wood and spice are also very present. In the finish, the Duchess and Nobilis are relatively short. The Silver Seal is more pronounced and leans more towards the woody spicy side. The same goes for the Bottleshop. For me, the Duchess/Nobilis are slightly ahead, closely followed by the Silver Seal. Unfortunately, the Bottleshop falls short due to the poorly integrated alcohol.

Wow! What a great bottling! At first sight you think, oh dear, 72%… this thing is going to be really spicy. But surprisingly, it’s not. On the nose it’s very fruity and floral, with lovely notes of eucalyptus, pear, sour cherry, thyme, and bergamot. On the palate it shows its complexity, and the alcohol is so well integrated that it never becomes overwhelming. The finish is long and delicious. Chapeau, Stefan!

# 23.10.2025 A nice relaxing day with Fabian in a summehouse in Blåvand 🇩🇰 The nose is very well balanced thinking about the ABV. Fruity with light marzipan and faint wood and very light mint. The palate is well balanced with natural sweetness. Fruity with very light wood and dried fruit. The finish is medium to long and sweet with nice fruits and light caramel and marzipan. ABV is perfectly Integrated. Price to quality is wery good in my mind.

8,5:On the nose, strong barrel impact with bourbon and toasted oak notes like butterscotch, bacon, spicy with ginger, vanilla, fruits with coconut, pear, yellow fruits, fresh, herbaceous and flowery molasses, bump into our nosetrils, quite intense. On aeration, citrus fruits join other fruits in marmelade, more roastedness brings chocolate, burnt sugar, the molasses is vegetal with tea, eucalyptus. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is buttery, creamy with toasted oak, bourbon barrel mark, with butterscotch, burnt sugar, fudge, nuts, spicy with vanilla and ginger, fruits like coconut, marmelade like with mirabelle plum, citrus fruits, cherries and pears, as the molasses is candied, fresh with tea, eucalyptus, dark with licorice...Alcohol integration is very good... 8,6:The finish is medium long, dry, slightly tannic, with toasted oak notes, yellow&green fruits and fresh, mineral molasses. Edit:22.8.26, an upgrade, oxidation helps.

An insanely complex and extraordinary intense "probably" Beenleigh! Awesome bottling! Pear, sour cherry, mirabelle, and yellow stone fruit meet sweet spicy bourbon cask, as well as eucalyptus, kumquat marmalade, and mild white jasmine tea, plus cocoa, caramel candies, and incense. The alcohol is incredibly well integrated and the price is really more than fair. Hats off Stefan, I thought with 2007 Beenleighs I had experienced it all by now, but with this highest ABV so far and this complexity, a new benchmark has probably been set! 😄❣️

Australia Artur’s Advent calendar day 24. A typical Beenleigh nose with a balance of fresh vegetal, cedar wood, and yellow fruits. But there is also eucalyptus that adds extra freshness and other fruits. On the palate, lots of freshness, mint and eucalyptus together against well-integrated wood and fruits dominated by the mint/eucalyptus duo. The finish is also very marked by this duo. I think this will appeal to fans of very fresh rums but it’s not quite my cup of tea.

2007 seems to have been a great vintage for Beenleigh. Also in this bottling there is again a good portion of yellow fruits, especially quinces and pears, this time enriched with a very exciting, ethereal-resinous component. That this rum has over 72% alcohol I can hardly believe given the creamy and pleasant mouthfeel. Very good!

Remarkable cask selection by the Bottle-Shop in Heidelberg. Wonderfully complex, great cask notes and hints of pear, cherry, and tea. A fantastic bottling at a sensational price. One sample definitely wasn't enough here.

Geruch fruchtig (Zitrus) ansonsten sehr floral. Im Mund ganz ähnlich, zusätzlich Tee und Kakao. Kräftig langer Abgang schön warm mit Kaffeenoten. Die >70% sind wirklich super eingebunden! Sehr gutes Teil!

Australia Artur Advent Calendar 2025 (24) Volltreffer Zum Abschluß ein absoluter Kracher. Was für ein geiles Teil. Schmeckt wie die Beenleigh 2007 Essence. One of the best Beenleigh I've tasted. Very balanced, a strong concentration of the markers. The complexity is marked by an evolution of aromas just the way I like them (crème brûlée, fruits, eucalyptus). The finish extends the pleasure nicely.

On the nose: Very interesting palate. Floral and fruity. Eucalyptus as the main note. On the background you get mixture of light pear notes, thyme, barrel notes, light citrus notes and bacon notes here and there. Taste: Eucalyptus, barrel notes, ginger notes, pear notes, tea notes and thyme notes. Quite the palate and the high 72% abv is present by giving the rum a good body, yet still integrated perfectly. Finish: Tea, light citrus, eucalyptus, light pear, light ginger notes. Strong notes on the long finish. I dont think i have had this kind of palate before. Very good complex palate and integration of alcohol. I really enjoyed sipping this.

Nose: initially rather closed but nice. Becomes more open/intense over time. Burnt sugar, eucalyptus, tea. Slight barrel notes here. Also fruity - a pear note that gets stronger over time. I once had a Moor pear from Scheibel, that's what I think of here. The other notes weaken at the expense of the pear. Taste: the notes from the nose are found here again. However, the fruit note (pear) is by far the most present. But the other notes are also clearly recognizable. Again the association with the Moor pear. The alcohol is noticeable (not surprising) but not disturbing. Finish: long Very interesting and tasty. For the price, one could buy a bottle. But first try other Australians and test against the RA.

Intense! Reminds me a lot of a New Grove. Chocolate, yellow fruits, citrus, vegetal, caramel, vanilla. Extremely round and harmonious. On the palate, lots of power, a little water helps, but even neat it's super tasty with a long finish of tea and yellow fruits. The alcohol is very well integrated.

Remarkable how drinkable the >70% are. I would describe the aromas like a kind of fruit tea. Very bitter and herbal-heavy. Behind that warm spices. Especially on the palate the fruitiness then comes through. The floral nose is not quite my thing, but the palate convinces across the board

The nose is initially unspectacular, but the palate and finish are super interesting - especially the combination of pear, eucalyptus, and burnt sugar is unique. Alcohol well integrated, probably too strong for the 'untrained'.

Nice piece! A very tasty and fruity sweet Australian rum. On the nose, I have a wonderful fruitiness that reminds me a bit of a very refined Cognac (Vaudon 75/78/80). Burnt sugar, tea, pear, citrus fruits, floral notes, and kumquat lead over to oak, citrus marmalade, and sour cherry. On the palate, it first has a nice, pleasant sweetness. You can't package 72% better. Lots of juicy pear, burnt sugar, chamomile tea, oak, cherry, mirabelle, and kumquat transition to the spicy, creamy side with dark chocolate, barrel notes, and caramel candies. The medium-length finish is again pleasantly fruity with tea, pear, yellow fruits, burnt sugar, chocolate, mirabelle, and sour cherry before it fades out with roasted notes, eucalyptus, and black pepper. This delicious Australian is an absolute no-brainer given the offered aroma and unbeatable price! Thanks to @Julian_P for the awesome sample 😀

Tried with Kevin in Blåvand, forgot to rate - catching up today. Stefan once again dug up a great rum for a really super price-performance ratio, hats off! For 72.1% ABV the nose is almost restrained. Fruity, pear and sour cherry, sweet influences of yellow fruits that meet the bourbon cask and aromas of caramel. On the cheeks it almost evokes associations with Foursquare at first impression - but that quickly fades after the first sip on the palate, leaving the brutal mineral clarity of a Beenleigh, despite the high ABV, very enjoyable, super price-performance!

Very nice Australian with a really good price-performance ratio. The alcohol is wonderfully integrated and makes the whole really complex. Dry, spicy, and sweet at the same time. Varied with a long finish.

2007 side-by-side with Duchess, SS, Nobilis and BottleShop. On the nose the BS is my favorite with more roundness and a creamy feel. The other three are quite similar with the SS a bit more on the harsh side. On the palate I do enjoy all four contenders pretty much, eventhough Bennleigh isn’t my favorite distillery tbh. Today the SS takes the crown closely followed by BS. Duchess comes with most fruits while the Nobilis shows the most influence (bitterness) from the cask.

Can be drunk undiluted without any problem. Really first-class quality. Not such a peach-pear bomb like other Beenleighs, but it doesn't have to be, as it is very complex on its own. With water, eucalyptus, bergamot and ginger come through.

Very intense and concentrated Beenleigh with a strong wood and spice profile. On the nose dark fruits, molasses and vanilla, accompanied by a subtle smokiness. On the palate full and warm with notes of toffee, dried fruit and a fine bitterness that gives structure. Despite the extremely high strength, the alcohol remains surprisingly well integrated. The finish is long, spicy and slightly sweetish. A powerful but harmonious Australian with lots of character.

Oh ja, der ist schön. In der Nase eher noch verhalten, überzeugt er am Gaumen mit dem typischen Beenleigh Profil von Honig, Birnen, etwas Zimt und Holz. Nur der Abgang fällt recht kurz aus. Also auch wenn ich eigentlich kein besonderer Fan von diesen neumodischen, recht hochprozentigen und aufgeladenen Dingern mit kurzem Abgang bin: Der hier ist schon schön. Und der Preis ist sehr fair für die Qualität. Hat Stefan wieder gut ausgesucht.

Top of Australian rums? Yeah, I'd agree with that. The classic profile with wood, expressive spices, a balanced fruit mix of pear, citrus, and tropical fruits, plus a pleasant residual sweetness of vanilla and burnt sugar. The alcohol content shows itself in the dry, mineral note in the finish, but aside from that, its strength is hardly noticeable. Great quality.

A pretty good Beenleigh, I especially like the nose. The profile is unmistakable, fruit brandy, mirabelle plum, honey sweetness. Here I smell and taste a bit less fruit brandy, but the mirabelle is clearly there. Compared to the Beenleigh from V&M tasted at the same time, this one has clearly more power, with otherwise very similar profile.

Timely terrace tasting right after receiving it, something new for a change.😄 This Beenleigh was definitely missing from the Australia calendar (or maybe not, as I just read) 🤣🙈 Very nice nose. A great interplay of bergamot, eucalyptus, and citrus, plus a lovely candied sweetness with baking spices and baked apple. The palate starts sweet and fresh at the same time. The alcohol is present but perfectly integrated at this strength. I taste bergamot, mirabelle plums, and tea again. Towards the finish it gets woodier, with ginger and dark chocolate. The transition is smooth. Great drop from the bottle shop, definitely worth a bottle. Thanks for the sample, Gunnar.😉

In the glass, it appears quite viscous. On the nose, it is very balanced and very pleasant, it doesn't reveal the alcohol strength well, it seems very balanced. On the palate, you immediately feel its alcoholic strength, but it doesn't bother me, I find it well balanced. Tasted immediately and also after some time, the alcoholic note is strong but not intrusive. The finish is medium considering the alcohol strength; I imagined it would be more persistent. Overall, I find it pleasant and full of character, right up my alley. Personal opinion, better than many renowned products, by far.

Tasted at GAF2026. An exciting bottling. The alcohol is sensationally integrated, even though after a few hours at the spirits fair, over 70% is certainly easier to handle. On the nose surprisingly fruity, floral with lots of citrus. On the palate, it didn't quite grab me. But that's nitpicking at a high level. Overall a top rum for the price. The high ABV certainly makes it less accessible than other Beenleigh 2007 bottlings.

Well, I didn’t expect this. Generally, I don’t like Australian rum much except for a few exceptions, or rather I don’t seek it out. But this is something else. Probably due to age and high ABV. On the nose, a kettle of eucalyptus and dried fruit. On the palate even several times more, with fullness complemented by ginger, pepper, and dried pears (dried fruit), which linger really long on the palate.

A very intense, complex rum. Pear, gember, cacao and tea notes are prominent. Very strong and spicy on the palate, not for beginners ;-) The finish is pleasantly long and definitely a good price / quality value.

Intense nose of tropical fruit (long pond style), apple, a little pear, caramel (Belize style), black tea. The palate confirms the nose, everything is there. The alcohol is present, 72 watts all the same, but very well integrated. The finish is marked by tea and a slight bitterness (not unpleasant at all) with a stewed candied fruit. Bravo Stefan for this selection at an incredible price! (The score is based on value for money).

Curious to try. Nominally at 72.1% ABV, a powerhouse. The color is a light brown amber. OK. The nose is initially quite reserved. However, it opens up over time and even more with a drop of water. In the aroma, this exciting Beenleigh combo of woody-spicy-caramel notes with a fresh citrus note and a menthol/eucalyptus touch. The palate then becomes nicely full-bodied with a noticeable aromatic sweetness. All the nose aromas come back. The ABV is surprisingly well hidden; at first guess, I thought it was in the lower 60s. With a drop of water, it gets even better. Nice, fairly long finish. Wow, rating increased from 8.5 without water to 8.7 with one or two drops.

The high ABV makes this an intens very fruity Beenleigh. Its certainly is price quality with a nice complexity. Very accessible fruity rum like a Foursquare only other fruits in this one. Recommend this one for sure.

My little daughter comes into the living room & says "it smells totally like apple here"! I add "pear" & we laugh because in the biggest room of the apartment there's only 1 cl from the Bottle Shop Beenleigh on the table - what a great, intense nose and the super well-integrated alcohol. On the finish, all the aromas/fruits play a concert in the mouth. Compliments for the choice of the cask & the 17 years of patience in aging!

The only Beenleigh I've tasted so far. > 70% always sounds wild, but they hardly stand out and are pleasantly integrated. I'm amazed at everything I smell. Pear, citrus, but also bourbon and oak and much more, which becomes even stronger in the mouth. Cherry, eucalyptus, and ginger join in. Exciting. Great finish and what is omnipresent for me is the pear 🍐. Already delicious!

At first, the nose shows some pear and eucalyptus and clearly burnt sugar. It's worth giving the rum some time. After a while, you can sense a fine black tea. A few minutes later, some mirabelle plum, floral notes, and a hint of oak appear. It's fun to see how the rum develops over time. In the glass, it's oily with a tawny-like color. On the tongue, the rum is somewhat creamy and almost velvety. Very pleasant. The taste features the pear already present on the nose, slightly caramelized. The black tea is also back, but on the tongue it brings a slight bitterness. The alcohol is very well integrated. You hardly believe the alcohol content is over 70% ABV. You notice a warming sensation, but without it turning into a biting sharpness or anything unpleasant. The finish reminds of caramelized black tea, is pleasant and medium to long.

Actually I think this is a great Beenleigh. I don't get any inner circle oddity. This has for me the typical bourbon cask and green apple of a good Beenleigh. It seems that age does work well with these.
