Members land in a pretty happy place with this one: a spicy, woody Martinique agricole where the Porto shows on the nose and the Armagnac fills out the palate. Expect dried fruit, candied pear, leather, allspice and a little dark chocolate. Several note the casks add richness without burying the cane. A few find the palate a touch drier and rougher than the nose promises.

Verbindet den trockenen Agricole-Charakter mit dem Einfluss von Armagnac- und Portweinfässern. Zuckerrohr, rote Früchte, Gewürze und Holz ergeben ein spannendes, ausgewogenes Profil. Das Finish bringt zusätzliche Tiefe. Ein gelungener Kompromiss zwischen klassischem Agricole und moderner Fassreifung.

Tasting at Rhum Fest 2025 and Limoges Spirits Festival. 👃 Typical Martiniquais and Saint James woodiness, not my favorite. Vanilla, spices, light pepper. Distant freshness of sugarcane, dried fruits from double aging, prune and little cherry in the background. A clear eau de vie cherry side with slightly damp wood. Slightly empyreumatic bitter chocolate and leather. 😋 Same again. Typical woodiness, spices, dried fruits. A bit of still green orchard fruits. Bitter cherry and its dark chocolate. Light roasted notes, coffee and heated wood. The mouthfeel is bitter and a bit too rough, a bit damp wood that was then heated by a dry heat source. ⛳ Essence of relatively noble wood, bitter cherry, soft spices, cooked sugarcane, chocolate and coffee. 💡 Nose a notch above the palate. A good representative of the Martiniquais style at a very good price-performance ratio. Ideal to introduce agricole rums.

#5766 28.09.2025 Day two of the Whisky Live 2025, which this year looks better organized/arranged inside. An exciting experiment in my mind and you can get a bit of the armagnac cask in the profile. Good ABV and wood integration with fruits and light chocolate and caramel.

Tasted at Rhumfest Paris 2025. This rum left me with a nice impression. I found it quite round. The passage in Porto and Armagnac casks brings gourmandise, dried fruits, the woodiness does not dominate. A bit of spice. A good price for lovers of fairly gourmand agricole.

Port wine and Armagnac finish are clearly recognizable but not too dominant. Nicely spicy, heavy and elegant. Pleasant sweetness and woodiness with candied pear. Very pleasant to drink! Very successful finish.

J’ai beaucoup apprécié ce Saint James. J’avais beaucoup d’espoirs au vu de la double finition, et j’ai bien fait de me laisser tenter en achetant cette bouteille. La finition Porto se fait ressentir au nez, tandis que celle d’Armagnac est plus présente en bouche. Les arômes sont complémentaires, le boisé un peu plus présent sans écraser les autres. Il est pile dans la gamme de goûts que j’aime. J’hésite à reprendre une bouteille pour anticiper la fin de la première.

Sample tasting. On the nose quite fresh and juicy with apple and pear, light marzipan especially in the beginning, quite flowery, young wood, light leather, Port also brings light chocolate. On the palate I get wood, leather, spices, light dark chocolate, apple. Very woody aftertaste. I have a feeling the rum is stronger than 46% would suggest. Saint James never dissapoints, great blending experiment.

La poire mûr, le fut de chêne sont vraiment les marqueurs principaux qui ressortent aussi bien au nez qu’en bouche. Le double cask Armagnac, Porto sont vraiment intéressants, cela apporte un côté poivre fruits sec Un rhum puissant qui apporte une bonne longueur en bouche
