If you're a curious label collector chasing a rare Mauritius column-still bottling, this is one to try before you commit — several tasters found it strangely light for 56.5%. Young wood, pear and apple, a little vanilla, and a green vegetal streak that had more than one member guessing cane juice over molasses. Filigree and a touch watered-down, more like an aged fruit brandy than a bold rum.

Nose: feels light/delicate, yellow fruits, mirabelle plum, very likely a column still distillate. Palate: gives more the impression of an aged mirabelle brandy than rum, again light and delicate. Finish: again towards plum/mirabelle, noticeable cask influence. Reminds me in taste of a tour through Romania with a stop at a village schnapps distiller - and that's not meant negatively!

Fair rating 14. GRF 2025: Mauritius? Of course I have to try! But unfortunately this rum doesn't really blow me away either. Better than the in my eyes failed Mauritius experiment from Vagabond Spirits, but also quite nondescript, unfortunately. Since it is labeled as molasses rum, it can only be a Grays (New Grove) or a Medine. I guess the latter distillery, especially since I can't taste New Grove DNA here either. Blind I would have guessed a solid rum from Saint Aubin, so rum from sugarcane juice, because it tastes rather vegetal. Becomes more accessible with longer standing time.

#5651 09.09.2025 Running a few samples while watching TV. This is a very light rum and not really what I expected. Light wood vith som vegetal notes and fruits. There is a light caramel and marzipan note in there as well as some light cherry. German Rum Fest 2025 sample.

Tasted at the 14th German Rum Festival admittedly with an already sluggish palate, but still this candidate is a bit lame. Little complexity, little fruitiness. Which distillery it comes from remains unknown.

A rather expressionless rum from Mauritius. Probably a young Labourdonnais? Yellow fruit, apple and pear, young wood, some vanilla and honey, rather vegetal and not so fruity. Would rather guess sugarcane juice and no molasses. Also somehow very thin and watery and not particularly complex but also not well balanced... a shame.

Wäre interessant mehr Hintergrundinformationen zu bekommen. In Der Nase Schokolade, am Gaumen dann sehr grasig, holzig. Insgesamt hätte ich eher auf einen Rhum getippt. Keine New Grove DNA dabei
