If you're a curious label collector chasing a rare Mauritius column-still bottling, this is one to try before you commit — several tasters found it strangely light for 56.5%. Young wood, pear and apple, a little vanilla, and a green vegetal streak that had more than one member guessing cane juice over molasses. Filigree and a touch watered-down, more like an aged fruit brandy than a bold rum.

Messebewertung 14. GRF 2025: Mauritius? Muss ich natürlich probieren! Aber dieser Rum haut mich leider ebenfalls nicht gerade vom Hocker. Besser als das in meinen Augen missglückte Mauritius-Experiment von Vagabond Spirits, jedoch auch ziemlich nichtssagend, leider. Da als Melasserum ausgewiesen, kann es sich eigentlich nur um einen Grays (New Grove) handeln oder einen Medine. Ich tippe auf letztere Destillerie, zumal ich auch hier keine New-Grove-DNA rausschmecken kann. Blind hätte ich auf einen soliden Rhum von Saint Aubin getippt, also Rum aus Zuckerrohrsaft, da er eher pflanzlich schmeckt. Wird mit längerer Standzeit zugänglicher.

Auf dem 14. German-Rum Festival mit zugegebenermaßen bereits trägem Gaumen verkostet, aber trotzdem ist dieser Kandidat ein bisschen lame. Wenig komplex, wenig fruchtig. Aus welcher Destillerie er stammt bleibt verborgen.

Wäre interessant mehr Hintergrundinformationen zu bekommen. In Der Nase Schokolade, am Gaumen dann sehr grasig, holzig. Insgesamt hätte ich eher auf einen Rhum getippt. Keine New Grove DNA dabei
