Twenty-six years in the cask and it still comes out surprisingly light and mild — that's the first thing people note. Coconut leads, backed by milk chocolate, vanilla and a hint of glue, with oak building on the palate. Several tasters wanted more punch at 51.5%; a few found it flatter than younger Foursquare bottlings. Classic house profile, just gentler than the age suggests.

#5670 16.09.2025 Running af few evening samples while watching Star Trek. Nose Fresh, light wood, faint smoke, fruits, light glue, banana, coconut, light vanilla. Palate Oily, wood, light roasted, coconut, light glue, light caramel, faint chocolate, faint marzipan, spice. Finish Medium long, wood, light roasted, faint nutts, light caramel, banana. Empty glass Vanilla, chocolate, caramel, coconut. German Rum Fest 2025 sample.

For its old age, quite light in color. Nose: lots of column still character, alcohol not optimally integrated. Palate: again lots of column still, I would have wished for more intensity and complexity. Finish: long but one-dimensional, mainly cask, vanilla, and bourbon, little Foursquare character. A pity, the technical data promised more, good rum but clearly falls behind other Foursquare bottlings.

Very tasty, extremely round 98 Foursquare. You hardly notice the 25y in the barrel. Coconut, banana, milk chocolate and a little cinnamon and vanilla, as well as ripe yellow peaches. Surprisingly few tannins and generally very mild and balanced. For 100€ very fair and tasty, even if not a particularly outstanding 98 Foursquare.

Well, what can you say about it, the typical Foursquare profile with lots of coconut. Towards the finish, you notice the wood/cask a bit more than in other bottlings. No big surprises, high quality as always, but also one-dimensional.

Durch das reine Column Still-Destillat besitzt dieser 1998er Foursquare bedeutend weniger Fülle als andere Vintages, allerdings ohne die typische Brennereicharakteristik zu vernachlässigen. Viel Kokosnuss und Vanille, geröstete Nüsse, Schokolade, Karamell und Toffee sowie getoastetes Holz und ein paar gelbfruchtige Facetten erzeugen ein sehr mildes, rundes und leckeres Trinkerlebnis, wobei mir jedoch die Tiefe des Pot Still-Anteils etwas fehlt. Auch den kurzen Wacholdermoment beim Antritt im Mund finde ich ein bisschen befremdlich.

Auf GFR 2025 gekauft. Milder Genussrum hoher Qualität. Milde Süße aber ABV (51,5)deutlich vertreten. Ist halt ein Foursquare. Finde ihn süßer und milder als den (Exceptional Cask Series) 2011 (RX 18990) und 2010 (RX13927). Wenn ich einen leckeren, kräftigen Rum trinken möchte, ohne zuviel nachzudenken, ist es dieser. Ob er wirklich über 100 € kosten muss, sei dahingestellt. Die 26 Jahre erklären den Preis, aber finden sich nicht unbedingt im Gesamteindruck wieder. Kein historisches „aha“ Erlebnis.

31-08-2025 - Rate 7.7 German Rum Festival First rum of day 2. Back where we started day 1, at Rum Atresanal. This time we try a old Foursquare. Nose is mild, vanilla, oak, chocolate and a hint of glue. Palate with oak, banana and chocolate. Short finish dominated by banana and oak. Would have liked a higher ABV. It was missing some power.

Trade fair rating GRF 2025: Foursquare Essence, lots of coconut both on the nose and palate. Sweet, pleasant, gentle and catchy. Unfortunately a bit one-dimensional. Price-wise, I'm positively surprised, expected much more.

Foursquare lovers will definitely get their money's worth here! What a bang for the buck? The practically oldest vintage from Foursquare for a good 100 euros? Madness! Taste-wise, the typical Foursquare profile comes out, which is perhaps a bit one-dimensional here. A bit too much column still, plus light gin notes. The tropical notes are not quite as present.
