Second tasting with a healthy nose and a bit of oxidation in the sample bottle: The alcohol hits the nose and the roasted notes are stronger than in the first tasting. Clearly funkier than RX1563 – but not young, spritzy funky, rather old, dignified funky 😉 On the palate again quite a present alcohol. Overall, I like it a bit better than the 2020 bottling (+0.1). Small comparison tasting with the two 94er New Yarmouth from Rum Artesanal: Color in the glass: identical, the current bottling is maybe a shade lighter than RX1563. Also interesting are the barrel numbers: 203 and 204 were combined in RX1563, RX24450 has barrel number 205. This suggests the barrels were purchased at the same time from Heinz Eggert. Nose: Bourbon, esters, fruits, more intense than RX1563, otherwise very similar. Palate: after about 2 seconds I get a "fruit kick" (which I don’t find in RX1563), otherwise very balanced, again bourbon, coconut, alcohol is present. Finish: long and very balanced, no bitterness. I’m not a big fan of the 94er New Yarmouths but in my opinion this bottling is at least as good as RX1563! I need to repeat the tasting because today my senses are affected by a starting cold. The first impression and the price asked are already enough for a recommendation. p.s. I couldn’t find any herbal notes 😉

Another 94 New Yarmouth... Unfortunately, the alcohol is very present in the taste above all and even after 30 minutes of breathing it doesn’t integrate any better. Aromatically, I find this NY rather one-dimensional and nowhere near as complex as other top representatives of this vintage. I mainly taste a slight wood acidity, herbs, nutmeg, dark chocolate, strong bourbon notes, glue, and a bit of lime, coconut, and ester. I can’t understand the current extremely high ratings. The Distilia Mizunara PX cask is clearly better and more exciting here, as is the Fine Drams New Yarmouth 94.

The fruity funkiness usually found in younger Jamaicans is replaced in this 1994 by a very complex, old, and noble richness. Glue, cold coffee, and coconut are part of it. On the palate, you notice the 66%, but in a positive way. It releases an extremely intense flavor. The wood-accompanied glue splits into a wide range of aromas. Very exciting. The finish is so long that you don’t realize when the notes of wood, toffee, and dried fruits like dried mango fade away.

Palate Oily, intense, wood, light roasted, nutts, clove, balanced, raisin, light coffee, fruity, mango, light coconut, glue, ester. Finish Very long and warm, wood, roasted, light coffee, banana, faint citrus. Empty glass Light nutts, light coconut, caramel, mango, cinnamon. Needs to rest for a while to really open up properly.

1. Tasty, the most classic, average, what you get with a 94NY 87 points. A bit sharp. 2. Very smooth start, a bit woody, creamy and with lots of coconut. Finish rather short. Very smooth compared to the others. 82 3. Very awesome start, immediately astringent, very funky in comparison. I really like it! 90 4. Could be a sherry finish. So many dark berries, sweet and full-bodied! Awesome stuff! 89 5. A mix of everything mentioned so far. Typical NY aromas, a bit astringent, a bit funky, a bit smooth but also a bit sharp at the end. 87 6. Typical NY, with a bit more citrus fruits in the basket at the end than the others. Yeah, I can agree with that rating, it's intense, the best so far today. Crazy New Yarmouth, quite similar to a Foursquare, if it weren't for the ester :) Yeah, otherwise there's also a lot of coconut, vanilla, and caramel/toffee.

Mature New Yarmouth with depth, but somewhat hampered by a persistent alcoholic sharpness. On the nose, vanilla and coconut with dried fruit and wood, but always accompanied by a noticeable sharpness. Dense and concentrated on the palate with spice and dried fruit, oak, but the alcohol remains present and lingers into the finish, where it detracts somewhat from the profile's elegance. Other 1994s show more calm and balance here. Nevertheless, a solid bottling with very good value for money.

Edit: even after the second tasting, the alcohol hits quite hard. It is really extremely badly integrated. If it weren't for the great nose, it would rank even lower. The first impression: the nose is already very very good, unfortunately it is still too alcoholic for me in taste, which prevents a better rating. But let's wait and see what the second tasting in peace brings.

94-proof New York rums are usually absolute knockouts, so the value for money was a bit surprising. Unfortunately, from the nose all the way to the long finish, there's a disturbing and sharp-edged alcohol note. With better integrated alcohol, this rum could have been really great, since the other markers around it really fit. Retasting +1, but I still think the alcohol is definitely too pronounced compared to other 94-proof New York rums.

This 1994 New Yarmouth is a real statement! Fruits, spices, nicely integrated esters, and plenty of depth. On the nose, vanilla, nuts, tropical fruits, coconut, and confectionery open up, which then transition to caramel, strong spices, wood, roasted notes, and more fruits. On the palate, alongside a dense sweetness, toffee, vanilla, cask notes, roasted wood, coconut, various fruits, and cookies are present. Then raisins, cinnamon, pecan nuts, and herbs come in under a great complexity, providing a powerful depth surrounded by spices. The long, intense finish is formed from cask notes, dark chocolate, roasted wood, spices, tropical fruits, orange, and nutmeg. Vanilla, cinnamon, and banana round off the aroma very harmoniously.

Another 94 New Yarmouth... this vintage almost always promises pure enjoyment... and this time is no different... though with a slight drawback... the alcohol isn’t perfectly integrated... but that doesn’t stop the expected play of aromas... as long as you just let small sips spread on your tongue. Without this flaw, it would be perfect. It can definitely hold its own with the others. Considering the price, it’s a recommendation for me.

👃 = Well fragrant, lively but not too much, with woody, caramel, orange, banana, coconut with a bit of varnish and spices.. 👄 = In a greasy and dense texture, the alcohol expresses itself clearly while being well integrated, offering a smoky and fruity balance. Woody and spicy, the finish is logically warm and long. Thanks to the Germans from Rum Artesanal for offering us a very good affordable 31-year-old Jamaican rum 👍

Affordable New Yarmouth 1994 at a solid high level. Super smooth with tropical fruits, roasted wood, chocolate, vanilla, very sweet and dangerously pleasant. The mouthfeel is intense with a balance of wood, fruits, and caramel/toffee. I find the rum very well done and don't think it's overly alcoholic.

Great 1994 New Yarmouth, beautiful bottling. Much rounder, deeper and more character than the FRC 1994. Dark fruits, but also a lot of funk and fermented fruits and esters - but very well integrated, offers a great experience from nose to palate Thanks to Michael for opening the bottle ❤️

The 94 is initially very pungent with sweet aromas from the barrel and vanilla. Also pungent alcohol on the palate, creamy and slightly roasted. Fruit with lots of sweetness. But also a play of acidity at the back. Quite a good bottling for the price.

Wow, this is a great New Yarmouth 1994. The abv is really high and I can notice it clearly, and despite being intense this rum is really open and the tastes are coming out of the glass easily. This being so "open" and almost bright is one of the highlights of this rum, which makes it stand out compared to other rums of the same vintage. Very very good bottling. The high ABV is noticeable but very well integrated. Smells of tropical fruits, pineapple, banana, ripe mango, a bit of chocolate. Taste also of tropical fruits, slight ester notes, chocolate. The finish is long. Very well-balanced bottling. A few minutes in the glass do it good. Elegant product!!

I'm really impressed this time around with the 31-year-old NewYarmut. I find the palate extremely complex and long, full of apricots, raisins, coconut and wood. At the end, pepper appears in the taste. Compared to other bourbon agings, I find it slightly sweeter. Anyway, the taste is very harmonious and the alcohol is well integrated.

Once again a top 94 New Yarmouth. Right from the start it is äsest and beautifully intense. Like the other representatives, it likes to have 20-30 minutes in the glass to open up completely. Then it becomes beautifully creamy and a good bit softer. The rum is really fun and is also fair for the price.

Classic NY 94 profile. The nose is very successful with coconut, pastry, roasted aromas and apricot. On the palate then not as creamy as expected. Lots of coconut and bourbon. Vanilla and roasted aromas. Some sharpness. Finish then similar. I would have wished for a bit more body and complexity. Overall too aggressive on the palate.

Great color. A copper/amber mix, radiant. Wow, what a nose impression. Totally different from the RX7272 tasted in parallel. You can really tell the long barrel aging of 31 years! Delicious, full, round, and oily. Dried dates, fruity sweetness, toffee, and vanilla. Mature and highly aromatic. On the palate, strong, spicy, raisins and dried fruits. Plus delicious wood. Feels very full-bodied. I don't sense the alcohol sharpness criticized in some other tastings. The finish is long on the beautiful nose aromas, and right at the end, a few glue notes come in. Even after minutes, the empty glass is still a joy to sniff. Really like it and fairly priced for its age. Ordered a bottle immediately.

An impressive NY 1994 release. On the nose immediately intense and multi-layered. I smell spices, toffee, caramel, overripe tropical fruits, plus a bit of glue, esters, and a hint of solvent. Overall powerful but surprisingly smooth and instantly makes you want the first sip. On the palate, the NY is full-bodied and dense. Fruity esters meet vanilla, dark honey, spices, and caramel. Despite the high intensity, nothing feels uncontrolled. The balance between fruit, funk, and maturity is excellent. The cask work supports the profile without overshadowing the typical distillery character. The finish is long, warming, and complex, with a slightly dry woody note and spicy depth.

For me, a great Jamaica rum with a fantastic fruity nose featuring coconut, caramel, and mango. Unexpectedly, the woody note appears briefly in the taste with full-bodied barrel notes accompanied by toffee, coconut, and roasted aromas. In the finish, the ester notes come through along with a nice woody aroma again.

This one really needs some time to breathe. The alcohol initially overpowers almost everything. On the nose, nice fruits with coconut and vanilla but also a bit of solvent. On the palate, it's sharp at first. Then woody with fruits and a slight sweetness. A bit of bitterness in the finish.
