The mint is the shock here — big menthol on the nose and palate that pretty much every taster names first. Around it sits blackcurrant and cassis, tropical fruit, green tea, cocoa and grippy oak from 23 years and a cognac finish. At 58% the alcohol reads well integrated, and the dry, tannic-bitter close is the part you have to be on board with.

A very successful T.D.L. with dark spice, caramel, licorice and light fruity notes. Pleasantly balanced and with beautiful depth despite its noticeable strength. Shows how well the interplay of maturation and distillate can work. A pleasing example of how modern bottlings can also be really convincing.

9,1:On the nose, minty molasses, grassy, earthy, roasted oak, smoky, with dark chocolate, cocoa, spicy with allspice, barrel impact is obvious, black currant, green, citrus fruits, rubber, bump into our nosetrils, well balanced. On aeration, caramel, pastry, biscuits and vanilla are out, the apple is baked, tropical fruits with banana join, fresh tea, some green pepper. 9:On the palate, the attack is fresh with minty molasses, tea, grassy, medicinal with menthol and rubber, fruity with citrus, green, tropical fruits, dark berries and black currant, as the wood is roasted with chocolate, caramel, sweet, smoky, spicy with allspice, vanilla, green pepper, dry. 9:The finish is long, dry&tannic, with roasted oak, nutty and smoky with confectionery, cocoa, fruits like green, tropical, dark berries and currants, fermented, as the molasses is minty, fresh with tea, earthy with cigar tobacco.

Phew, yeah this one is intense, but I think the next two will be too :) First impression, seriously strong mint on the nose and palate. It doesn't quite reach the others, it's too floral/earthy for that...

Incredibly good TDL 2001. Starfruit and dark berries, especially cassis, on the nose, as well as fresh mint and menthol, complemented by cocoa, vanilla, green pepper, and a lot of barrel influence. On the palate, then totally intense cassis notes, complemented by green tea with mint, green pepper, cocoa, as well as a colorful fruit basket of berries, apples, starfruit, and a few hard-to-define tropical fruits. The alcohol is perfectly integrated, the barrel influence is noticeable with distinct, pronounced tannins without being too dominant, and overall really a great 2001 TDL. Definitely plays way up in the league of really good TDLs! Hats off to Switzerland for this barrel pick 👏🏼

Grosse aération pour profiter pleinement des arômes et enlever un peu de l’amertume. Très bon jus, avec de belles notes mentholées, des fruits tropicaux , agrumes, cassis.. une bonne intégration de l’alcool, et une belle longueur en bouche. Beaucoup de plaisir pour un prix abordable 😍

Classic 2001 TDL with a nice mint note, recognizable cask influence and pleasant spice and fruit rum character. The Cognac finish also works well. Noticeable age, well-integrated bitter notes in the finish that you have to like - great complexity.

Nose: Intense passion fruit immediately takes center stage. Behind it, typical TDL notes appear, a nice spiciness and ripe tropical fruit. Overall very concentrated, complex and promising.\n\nPalate: The passion fruit remains the most distinctive note for me at first, before the typical TDL character with spice, wood and a nice, full structure shows itself. The rum feels oily, intense and very well balanced, without the cask becoming unpleasantly dominant.\n\nFinish: Long, warm and complex. Especially the menthol note stands out clearly in the finish and provides freshness. Along with spice, wood and tropical fruit.\n\nOverall: An exceptional and very lively TDL, where the passion fruit brings an impressive freshness to the typical Trinidad profile. If the price were lower, this bottle would probably be in my cellar multiple times.
