#7054 17.07.2026 Finally weekend and this week I've been walking a lot so now I want to relax. The wife is out with one of her Japanese friends so I can watch some Steven Segal movies at fulle blast. Pretty good rum with a good price tag in my mind. Medium intense profile with fruits, spices, nutts, sugarcane, caramel and light roasted wood.

Nose a bit solventy even after 15 minutes of rest, then keeping the nose in it becomes a bit more "gourmet-fresh" but remains light. Interesting palate but not to my taste, too much alcoholic presence that lingers on the finish, feels very young, dry and spicy on the length, not for me.

In slot #17 in my advent calendar I found this rum from the Esperance distillery that’s producing the Longueteau brand. They celebrated the 130 Anniversary of the distillery with two releases, one Blanc and this 4yo. For this aged release, distilled in 2021, they used red cane from plot no. 11. For aging they used ex-cognac barrels. The edition is limited to 2880 bottles. The nose is at first quite alcoholic, but after a while it’s round, fruity and woody with scents of orange and vanilla. At the palate it’s a little bit the same, first alcoholic, but after a while elegant, complex, full-bodied, round, roasted, woody and spicy with flavors of vanilla, caramel and pepper. The finish is medium+.

A nice little anniversary cuvée that starts with a diverse nose: the vegetal freshness comes first before giving way to notes marked by the cognac cask (dried fruits, nuts and raisins notably) but also softer notes on confit, cane and brown sugar. The woodiness, rather light, is supported by sweet spices (vanilla, chili). A nice balanced nose. The attack on the palate is a bit more direct, focused on cognac, raisins, dried and shelled fruits. The spices become more pronounced and warm the palate. The sweetness from the nose remains with honeyed notes that balance the power on the palate. Citrus notes also appear. It’s a rather round and supple rum that remains fluid in the mouth. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is long, a bit drier than the entry on the palate suggests. The cognac cask still shows its effect with its markers, but the herbal notes resurface while more toasted aromas spice up the finish while preserving a touch of sweetness. A very nice cuvée and relatively accessible price-wise for Guadeloupe.
