Spirit Gallery South Pacific Fiji 2001
People who chase Fiji esters keep rating this one near the top, with a few caveats. The nose is the showstopper: pineapple, overripe pear and apricot tangled with solvent, rubber and olive brine. The palate turns drier and woodier, spicy with allspice, citrus and a bitter edge. Give it 30 minutes of air. A handful of tasters wished the finish ran longer.
- Huge funky nose
- Well-integrated alcohol
- Ripe yellow fruits

How does Spirit Gallery South Pacific Fiji 2001 taste?
Aggregated from 60 community reviews.
Funky, dry, high-ester Fiji from 2001 Most tasters call it one of the best Fijis they've had: funky, fruity nose, dry woody palate, alcohol well hidden at 56.6%. The recurring gripe is a finish that falls a bit short.

Mature Fiji rum with a calm, rather dry profile. Dark fruits, tea, some leather and wood on the nose, overall rather restrained. Spicy and slightly tart on the palate with little sweetness, some cocoa and a dry, slightly bitter note on the finish. Not a fruit bomb and nothing playful. Solid, mature and harmonious, but more for lovers of this dry style.

Edit : rhum club Lille. chocolat & pamplemousse, groseille. Superbe !

Relaxing with a little sample while watching a crime series on TV. A very good and well-balanced Fiji rum. Intense fruity with some diesel notes mixed with some olives and salt. The palate is dry and lightly bitter.

9,1:On the nose, citrus, tropical fruits with banana, green apple, pear, roasted wood notes with cream toffee, buttery, spicy with vanilla and pepper, some solvents, grassy, herbaceous, flowery molasses, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, baking spices arise, dairy notes, plums and apricots. 8,8:On the palate, the attack is medicinal with solvents, rubber, spicy with allspice, vanilla, peppery, the wood is roasted with butterscotch, cream toffee, the fruits are fermented with pineapple, banana, citrus fruits like lime, grapefruit, green apple, pear, driedapricots. On oxidation, dairy and plastic hints come out, the molasses is bitter with briny olive, herbaceous, grassy. 9:The finish is long, dry&tannic, creamy, balanced, sweet with roasted, spicy and smoky wood, fruits like dried, citrus and tropical, medicinal touch and grassy molasses.

Unfortunately, the tasting glass is broken and the vacation rental doesn't have any more. Great aged Fiji and truly my best so far. Super balanced with lots of citrus fruits, various tropical fruits, solvents, esters, and burnt sugar. The finish lasts forever!

What a blast, in my opinion. Everything I expected and much more. Recently, probably the best sample I've had in my glass. The finish was super long and truly fine.

Fiji in Reinform!

Another compelling release from the South Pacific Distillery in Fiji—but who's surprised, considering the vintage? The intense aroma of the 2001 Fijis practically begs to be called a "Heavy Fiji Style." Tea, citrus, olive, wood, smoke, subtle caramel...you have to like it, but in terms of complexity, it's very impressive.

Excellent Fiji 2001! In the same league as the LMDW flag and Rock&Rhum. 👃 Pineapple, Fijian esters, green olive, petroleum, diesel, yellow fruit, dry lemony freshness. 😋 Overripe yellow tropical fruit (pineapple, banana), Fiji's typical good esters, light brine, petroleum flavors, light caramel, sweet vanilla.

First impression: This is a very tasty Fiji. The typical aroma profile is present, but not so dominant, and the usual metallic note is more in the background and is complemented by a nice caramel sweetness. Really a successful bottling. Edit: Not entirely dissimilar to the Velier Hampden LFCH 2011 for my taste.

Review by Spirit Gallery
Review by Buddudharma
Very nice Fiji, great alcohol integration and, in terms of profile, feels a little closer to the Rockleys than other bottlings of the vintage. The only downside is the rather short and unspectacular finish.
