Near-universal love here, with only a couple of tasters wanting the last bit of balance. This is a 14-year tropically-aged Savanna high-ester single cask, and people keep landing on the same notes: overripe strawberry, menthol and mint, nail polish and glue, pineapple, then roasted oak and spice. The wood runs heavier than usual for a 2007 Grand Arôme, but most call it worth the time.

Ripe fruit with a distinct ester character, supported by spicy depth and a fine smoky note. On the palate, expected intensity with candied aromas, dark chocolate, and spicy herbal spice. The finish remains long and powerful with a harmonious interplay of sweetness, spice, and grip.

Grand Arome 2007 as it should be! The typical overripe strawberry and pineapple, as well as some menthol and cinnamon chewing gum are clearly recognizable but are somewhat overshadowed by the wood. Sour tannins, slightly salty but also lots of astringent bitter notes. Very intense Grand Arome, which simply has unusually much wood, though not too dominant. Just has more roasted aromas and more tannins than you’re used to from 2007 GAs, which doesn’t detract from the quality. Definitely need to take your time with it! By far my favorite of the 3 'very rare cask' editions so far! 😄🇷🇪

Damn, this is good! The nose already promises a fruity-woody experience. On the palate, it really kicks off, the fruit basket is filled with strawberries, pineapple, and mint leaves. Wood joins in and becomes more present in the endlessly long finish. Amazing rum!

9,2:On the nose, esters and solvents, overripe, even rotten, pungeant strawberry, tropical fruits like pineapple, citrus fruits, roasted wood notes like coffee, roasted nuts, spicy with cinnamon, minty sugar cane, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the cane is flowery, fresh with tea, herbaceous, vegetal with briny olive, medicinal notes like rubber and soap arise, confectionery with pastry, caramel, allspice and various fruits like banana, dried apricots and figs... 9,1:On the palate, the attack is intense, medicinal with esters, pungeant with overripe, rotten strawberry, vegetal sugar cane with briny olive, as the rum settles down, becomes very round, the cane is sweet with brown sugar, honeycomb, minty, the fruits dried with raisins, apricots and dates, tropical with banana, pineapple, citrus with bitter orange, grapefruit, perhaps sour cherry joins the play.The wood is roasted with crunchy bread, oaky, spicy with clove, perhaps allspice. 8,9:The finish is long, dry and tannic, as various roasted wood notes like coffee, chocolate, praline, confectionery, slightly smoky and spicy, oaky, pair different dried, tropical and citrus fruits, strawberry, cherry, rotten, pungeant and medicinal notes like esters, rubber, slightly dirty. A good rum, but unfortunately it can't really convince much. I don't find it fruity at all. Otherwise very spicy, woody, and rusty. Mint is also noticeable. Good rum, but not world-class.

This Rare Cask bottling is excellent. It needs time in the glass, but then it develops a very complex and challenging aroma of fruit, spices and wood. Absolutely top and matches my taste. Savanna always manages to release excellent bottlings again and again

Very heavy grand aroma... lots of wood, dark dried fruits, esters and tropical fruits result in a great interplay of flavors. Needs a good amount of time in the glass. Nose is somewhat reminiscent of a Tropical Long Pond. Beautiful thing 🤑😊

Savanna tasting on 26.09.2025 – Eight samples were tasted and expertly explained. The Savanna hype somehow passed me by again, but it was a really great event. Many thanks to RumX and the Savanna team – more of that please! The Savannas are true masters and craftsmen. Complex, 60% vol., that flatter the palate. The work with different styles like Creole, Traditional and HERR leads to a variety that few distilleries offer. All top-notch! Before the final boss, there was a single cask with one or another ester molecule in orbit. Yes, the murmuring in the Teams channel increases, appreciative hearts rise. That seems to be the pinnacle of enjoyment for ester lovers. And again highest craftsmanship.

Tasting with Mr. Simon Hansen on 16.07.2026 RX 24528 Savanna Cask 3th. Nose: Sweet spicy cognac cask, clove, a bit of cinnamon Heavy spicy, medicinal rubber, salty olives. Bitter citrus notes and grapefruit. Finish has a bit of bitter coffee and tea notes, oak tannins and rubber. In the glass: Cognac notes, spicy oak, heavy rubber. Tasting “In the garden”

Bombastic nose with endless ester variety! Candied, wood, cinnamon, and mint complement the profile. The approx. 65% ABV is noticeable on the palate through high intensity, but by no means alcoholic or burning. Very amazing! Pleasant and long finish. Very good!

Clear Grand Arôme influence with the typical overripe strawberry and mint, very complex on the palate with citrus fruits, wood, spices, but still a bit sharp on the finish. I like it, but for the Savanna top range, I miss the last balance.

Alcohol is a flavor carrier, and with 64.9% ABV, this bottling has a lot of potential and knows how to use it to its advantage! Wow, boom! Strawberry, mint, and elegant oak notes on the nose, fresh peach aromas, and a large fruit basket. On the tongue comes the big bang, excellent! That's how I like it, it rattles around nicely and you puff out your cheeks, what a blast! Menthol with wood, ester and floral influences - everything that makes Savanna unique. Spectacular bottling, welcome to the wish list!

Great color (mahogany) in the glass. On the nose, mainly dried fruits such as dried apricots and dates, followed by light spices. A great piece on the palate. Here you can find the dried fruit again, but also wood, spices, some TicTac Wintergreen and a slight bitterness. The whole thing is really very round, harmonious and complex, the almost 65% is very well integrated. A little TicTac Wintergreen remains in the finish, followed by an elegant woody spiciness. I only know such an elegant wood spice from the Rasta Morris TDL 2001. This is a really great and elegant rum from Savanna. The only downside is the high price.

Savanna x RumX masterclass. A 2007 vintage, long fermentation, the Savalle column, only one cask.. smells like a crazy exclusive in ex-cognac. Always that fruity vibe, a little Lontan side (even if it’s not), fermentation done like a herr, but with the Savalle. HES 'High Ester Savalle', unique in its kind. Big side fruit brandy, olive & strawberry, esters of course but not dominant. Also beeswax, a varnish side. On the palate more fruit, always those esterified but fruity notes, a pinch of discreet spices, and a well-melted white wood. Finish more caramelized, roasted, and almost chocolatey in the middle of strawberry and mint.

This is a really good bottling from Savanna. My rating would probably be even higher if I had tasted it more often. Lots of strawberry, mint, menthol, but also a good amount of wood. But everything is super harmonious with well-integrated alcohol.

Savanna x RumX Masterclass 2025. I had a very unique opportunity to taste several Savannas during this special masterclass. I had a wonderful evening. What a fantastic, full, intense, fruity, and delicious rum. Jamaican flavor, fruity, a bit dry, sticky, floral, and a touch of leather. Long finish with a flavor explosion. Luckily, I still have an extra sample of this somewhere, which I will definitely enjoy again. A real winner!

Tasting in the Savanna masterclass 2025: the nose is relatively restrained but the ester is clearly noticeable. On the palate really strong. Strong apricot notes, a really long finish. Great drop.

Ohh, a very tasty Grand Arome, with plenty of power and clear maturity. But both in exactly the right measure, alcohol well integrated, wood not too overpowering. Flavors of strawberry, menthol, spices. Great bottling, let's see where I can get a whole bottle.

At first, the nose is full of all kinds of fruits and very pleasant. On the palate, then, the full mint with strawberries. Wow, a little explosion. Overall, it's very pleasant.

Very complex and intense Savanna with a mix of esters, mint, tannins, and herbs. The rum needs a longer time, then it opens up and the alcoholic note fades away. Long finish with dark notes. Great.

Nose: A festival of esters immediately sets the tone, quickly followed by delicious notes of ripe pineapple and strawberry. Palate: A funky and spicy profile with remarkable indulgence, to the point where you almost forget the 64.9% ABV. Finish: A refreshing combination of menthol and ripe pineapple. In short, pure Savanna packed with solvents just the way we love it!

Color: Chestnut Smell: Mix of chocolate, wood and herbs. Fruity and sweet with solvents. Rum-grape-nut chocolate. Alcohol is well integrated. Taste: Caramel and wood in the mouth. Then quickly becomes alcoholic and sharp. When swallowing a flavor bomb. Alcoholic and sharp, intense, sweet and fruity with raisins, toffee and chocolate, woody and herbal. Spicy and sharp. Finish: Long Spicy, woody and herbal. Alcoholic and warming. Aftertaste herbal and medicinal bitter. 90 points

What a nose!! Exceptional on nail polish but immediately oriented towards tropical fruits, pineapple, exotic fruits, which is unmistakable with Jamaica. The dried fruits come on the third nose. Powerful palate obviously but immediately on blackcurrant and slightly mentholated. Warm and long finish on mint.

Savanna Flight: Very powerful Savanna. Lots of glue, UHU, nail polish remover and tropical fruits. Mangoes, pineapples, papaya. Wood is borderline, but still in the green zone. Good that they bottled it.

High ester at Savanna always means a very unique, totally fascinating world. Terroir, but not in terms of the soil, but rather the fermentation. The longer it sits in the glass, the more flowers join in, patchouli, lilies, and violets. A rather wild, exotic, absolutely seductive mix. It is reminiscent of a mystical Asian scene from Kar-wei, the love room from In the Mood for Love. And indeed, with this synesthetic experience, exotic herbs also shine like little candles out of the fog. With some drops of water bison grass and strong woodruff are rising from the primordial soup. What fabulous, highly complex bouquet! Palate Pure concentration. A whole basket of exotic herbs! Cooling mint and camphor, Mediterranean aniseed, and dried strawberries. It seems that strawberries are Savanna's leitmotif. The distillate is carried by fermented, thick mango juice, which attempts to balance the spicy notes with a great and juicy sweetness. This balancing act is achieved by a hair's breadth. One more year and the wood would have won the arm wrestling match. The result is a highly flavorful border crosser.
