The Whisky Jury Hampden The Ester Hunter Catch 4 DOK 2009
"Toller DOK mal etwas anders," as one member puts it — and the twist is a smoky, almost peated note from the barrel that runs through the whole thing. Underneath sits classic Hampden: overripe banana and pineapple, mango, glue and nail polish, briny olive. At 55.9% the alcohol is nicely integrated. Most love it; a few smoke-averse drinkers wish that note stayed quieter.

Great DOK, a bit different. Neat in the glass, still kind of typical with slight hints of smoke, which for me as a (smoke-in-rum hater) isn’t really bad in this bottling. In a Mai Tai, it’s really solid, it delivered big time. Edit: after a long rest, a proper smoky note does come out... but somehow it’s not as annoying here as I’ve often experienced before.

Mhm, I've already had several 2009 DOK releases in the glass. With this one, I find the smoky aroma rather disturbing. It really reminds me as if this rum has a whisky finish. Doesn't really appeal to me.

#5449 04.07.2025 Time to try out this one 😊 Smells nice even when being poured. Nose Medium intense, ester, faint wood, fruity, overripe, pineapple, light banana. Palate Fresh, warm, medium intense, ester, fruity, overripe, naturally sweet, faint caramel, light herbal. Finish Long and warm, wood, light tannins, fruity, light citrus. Empty glass Herbs, light mint, light sour, faint cherry.

Oh man, how many Hampdens are there actually?? :-) Here again a typical representative, overripe tropical fruits, again banana and pineapple, also some mango, but you can also detect glue and nail polish here.

8,4:On the nose, esters, nail polish and glue, overripe tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, citrus fruits, briny olive, funky, roasted wood, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, buttery notes like cream toffee and marzipan are out, herbaceous molasses, spicy tones and fermented red fruits. 8:On the palate, the attack is intense, funky with esters, chemical notes, funky, less balanced, acicic with vinegar, fruity with overripe tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, perhaps mango, citrus fruits, the molasses is flowery, herbaceous, grassy with hay, vegetal with briny olive, as the wood is smoky, burnt with sourdough bread, caramel, spicy. 8,1:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, with rubber, plastic, esters, fermented tropical, citrus fruits, funky, the oak is smoky with confectionery, peppery and the molasses flowery, vegetal, grassy with hay..

Brilliant on the nose with esters, overripe fruits and some wood. On the palate very intense esters; fruits present but overlaid by a smoky note. Also some herbs and caramel. On the finish tannins and wood. The value for money is right for the nose, but the smoky aroma on the palate is a bit disturbing to justify a higher rating. Fans of smoky whisky might enjoy it here.

Northern Lights Meeting 07/25: Nose Fruity Mouth Sweetly spicy with a slight smokiness. Interesting but doesn't pick me up either.
Review by Jussi Piirainen
On the nose: Quite mild on the esters and pleasant for a DOK mark. Overripe pineapple and banana. Woody. There are some olive brines in there too. Taste: Warm and fresh mouthfeel upfront. Good level of intensity, the alcohol is integrated well. Esters, overripe pineapples. Sweetness from the fruits. Some loght herbal, minty notes. Hints of smoky notes. Whisky barrel notes. Finish: Woody, warm mouthfell. Some tannings and malt notes. Very easy, pleasant sipper that kind of misses some kind of exitement and perhaps complexity in order to score higher points, but its not a boring rum to sip at all

Superb 🤩🤩 A flattering nose, with beautiful promises between esters, a basket of ripe fruits, caramel... and then the explosion on the palate. A real treat. I find this selection super fruity, a nice roundness and powerful aromas for an alcohol beautifully integrated 😍 Love it ❤️❤️❤️

Great fruity, balanced Hampden profile at the start! Unfortunately, a smoky note in the finish, as if the rum had been in a whisky barrel. I'm not really into that...

My first DOK! Pale yellow color. Preliminary review as I pop n pour. Nose: Glue, heavy pineapple, nutty, fermented features of Clairin, new furniture Palate: Fresh pineapple juice, funky, new paint, Peanut oil, mild oak, signature of tropical aging. Rub a few drops between fingers:it’s you Clairin!! Finish not too long, definitely bitter, Chinese herbal tea, my mouth is all dry. Asian review: 菠蘿味蘿蔔臣啫喱仔,少許廿四味嘅甘苦,新造傢俬。木桶影響較少,粗獷,有熱帶熟性風味明顯。

Good Hampden, but in my opinion this was too expensive for what else is on the market; not good value for money. At most a tiny bit better than ester 5, while that bottling cost half as much..

Fine and with a fairly pronounced smoky note. Naturally quite powerful. Between whisky and artisanal rum, the Hampden roots touch

You can clearly recognize the well-made Hampden Dok then a very distinct note of woodiness, almost peaty. It's not bad, you have to be a fan.
