Distilia T.D.L Floral Rum Series Pimenta Racemosa (Catawiki) 2005
One taster called the mint here the most intense they'd ever had in a glass, and that's the headline: this 19-year TDL from Trinidad leans hard on menthol and fresh herbs, backed by damp oak, peach iced tea, caramel and juicy yellow fruit. At 64.5% the heat is real but well-tucked. Several people found it round and gourmand; a couple felt the column character left it a touch flat.

Minty, herbal aged Trinidad at cask strength Well-liked among TDL fans for its huge mint, herbs, peach and caramel sweetness. Alcohol sits well for the strength, though a few called it pleasant rather than remarkable.

Wow, what a surprise. On the nose, you can still barely detect the typical TDL aromas. Here, wood, caramel, and tropical fruits dominate. On the palate, the mint hits extremely hard; I've never had such an intense mint flavor in the glass before. Then on the palate, a super intense peach iced tea that lingers for a long time. Alcohol perfectly integrated!

Sorry but this is not my cup of tea. Very strong, no complexity and no depth. Just strong alcohol, weird herbs, oak wood and vanilla. This is exactly the type of TDL I don't need to drink.

Next up is a great T.D.L. Of course, lots of mint, but you can also recognize many herbs here. It's very fresh and floral, with some woodiness also noticeable. But a really nice T.D.L. :)

Pleasantly rounded TDL. Alcohol well integrated. Typical aromas of wood, mint and herbs with plenty of fruit and a comparatively prominent sweetness in the finish. I'm a big TDL fan, so this guy has won my heart.

On the nose, the heavy TDL markers are well present: menthol, lots of boat hold-type wood, fruity with ripe peach and passion fruit. The spices also bring quite a bit of complexity with cardamom, vanilla, a bit of nutmeg. On the palate, nothing dirty or petrol-like. On the contrary, very fruity and spicy. The attack is very hot despite the menthol which could have brought a lot of freshness. You feel rather spicy accents (hence the name of the rum), with juicy yellow fruits (peaches, quinces), even like fruit pastes. Because the sweetness brings a lot of softness and indulgence to the whole. The integration of the alcohol is superb. The boat hold, this damp barrel wood closes the march. The finish is long, round and mentholated, with some cooking spices that remain on the tongue. Honestly a good TDL for its indulgence.

Well, by now I'm a bit oversaturated with T.D.Ls. but I have to say that it's still well done, but unfortunately not outstanding. Thanks Skyfly for the split. Nice that I was allowed to try it.

This rum did sit in the glass for a good 30-45 minutes before it opened up. On the nose: Minty, woody, roasted, light herbal notes, fresh. Light chocolate notes and light orange notes in the background. Light vanilla notes and light anise notes. Taste: Minty, light herbal notes, woody notes at first. Oily mouthfeel. Then you get fruity notes and light caramel notes before the palate changes back to woody, chocolate, light coffee notes. Finish:Minty, peaches and pears as fruity notes. Chocolate, light anise, woody notes and toasted notes at the end. Long finish. I think this was a very good T.D.L once you just let it sit in the glass and let it open up.

Very round and full-bodied Trinidad. 2005 as it is written in the book: peach iced tea, mint, a bit of chocolate, pear and caramel. Alcohol well integrated and overall really a very pleasant affair.
Review by Jakob
Expressive profile with heavy caramel sweetness, lots of fruit aromas from both citrus-fresh and fully ripe fruit, as well as a noticeable spiciness with a peppery kick. A beautiful and balanced profile that impresses with its complexity.

Reminds me somehow of the Schotman 2006 TDL. Kind of a mix between Foursquare and TDL, a bit flat, alcohol integrated okay, but with clearly too much column still.

On the nose juicy and sweet mango and peach, accompanied by caramel, wood and mint. Relatively oily on the palate, it stays true to the nose. A little peppery spice at the end of the mouth. Long finish.
