The menthol is the surprise here — cooling eucalyptus and mint run through this 1995 Clarendon like nothing you'd expect from Jamaica, so much that several tasters kept mistaking it for a TDL. Around it sits ripe mango, pineapple, caramel, dark spice and heavy tropical-aged oak. At 64.7% it's oily and thick; give it air and time. Wonderful, but genuinely hard work in the glass.

Very intense EMB with a clear 1995 profile. On the nose immediately eucalyptus, tropical fruit, some grapefruit and lemon peel, plus dark spices and distinct woody notes from the long aging. On the palate dense and powerful with mango, ripe pineapple, caramel, pepper and roasted aromas from the cask. Not an easy rum, but very exciting and with lots of depth.

Oh well, not from bad parents! An intense, sophisticated feast for the palate for experienced connoisseurs. Really demanding, nothing to be enjoyed on the side. If the alcohol had been integrated a little better, the rum would have broken the 90 rating barrier. Thanks to Skyfly for the sample!

Der erste Eindruck in Nase und Gaumen: krasse Minze - das muss ein TDL sein!? Dieser Clarendon steigert nochmal die Intensität von Minze in einem Rum, die ich bisher nur bei TDLs schmecken konnte. Perfekt ausbalanciert mit tropischen Früchten, Karamell und leichten Holznoten begeistert dieser Rum von Nase bis Abgang. Im Gaumen ist wahnsinnig intensiv - eine wahre Geschmacksexplosion; Im Nachgang ganz leicht bitter, was jedoch nicht negativ wirkt

#5887 10.10.2025 Enjoying an extra sample to end a nice evening. Nose Medium intense, woody, light roasted, light apple, light cherry, anise, light tannins, glue. Palate Intense, oily, woody, roasted, light caramel, light cherry, citrus, raisin, glue, dried fruit, tannins. Finish Long and warm, wood, light orange, pineapple, tannins, light dried fruit. Empty glass Light melon, light floral, caramel, light mint.

👃 = The nose is intense, blending ripe and dried fruits, woodiness, caramel, roasting, eucalyptus, and a hint of vanilla. Long live 100% tropical aging.. 👄 = The palate lives up to it with a balanced structure, a cocktail of spices, tobacco, and a bit of roundness. The long finish brings out the alcohol with some chocolate and bitterness. Surely among the best Clarendon 1995 👌

Very very wicked 95 EMB Clarendon. Menthol, as well as green pepper and allspice, bitter sweet vanilla, grapefruit, licorice and overripe tropical fruits. Very wood-accented with intense tannins and therefore also quite astringent on the finish, which is generally very long-lasting. The alcohol is really well integrated. Definitely a top representative of the already consistently good 95 EMBs.

Another very good 95 Clarendon...complex, intense and more on the spicy woody side. The nose is absolutely on the fruity side with lots of apricot and tropical fruit. Dark sweetness on the palate at first, followed by tart fruit. Intense spicy, woody aromas then assert themselves and finally become somewhat bitter. This also accompanies the medium-long finish

A very beautiful nose full of promises, warm with lots of overripe fruits. You can sense a bit of chili and a slight menthol. The first palate is lively, full of aromas and alcohol but well integrated here. The mint is quite present. The finish becomes more and more spicy, until it becomes a bit too spicy for my taste.

Wow, this one is pretty intense. It stood open in my glass for almost an hour and didn't lose any power. Astringent with an incredible amount of menthol and mint! Could easily pass as a fruity mint T.D.L. For me, it's borderline too much mint again. A complex drink! Thanks @skyfly for the sample

Very nice nose. Reminds me a bit of the older Appleton Hearts (e.g. the 94). Especially characterized by spicy and roasted aromas, plus some mint and tropical fruits. On the palate slightly astringent and super intense. Pepper, spices, mint, tobacco, wood, a slight bitterness, relatively little fruit in my opinion.

Another Clarendon from the actually good vintage of the 95s. The DNA it delivers is clearly recognizable and was of course to be expected. The only thing is, the slightly too woody/bitter taste in the finish ruins a better rating for me. I find that a little bit over the top.

Bdas is a really beautiful rum. Very round, yet powerful with a well-integrated ABV. Beautifully complex, really enjoyable. Deduction for much only for the price. It's also possible for fewer bags of ducats

EMB 1995 with all known facets, embedded in rich wood influence from many years of tropical maturation. Aromatic with impressive intensity, lots of cooling eucalyptus, freshness of tropical (mango, fully ripe pineapple) and citric fruits (grapefruit, lemon peel), dark spices (pepper, aniseed) as well as rich caramel sweetness and the already mentioned barrel aromas and roasted notes. Challenging, but worthwhile - an exquisite rum!

Very nice. As often at this strength, the aromas are muted because too concentrated. But you can feel there's something heavy in the glass: lots trying to express themselves. There's tropical fruit, indulgence, dark barrel aromas but all enhanced by freshness and a certain acidity. Reminds me of the Appleton heart that I particularly like...

Recognizable 1995 EMB profile. Heavy old Jamaican flavors due to long tropical ageing. It needs quite some time in the glass to balance itself. It’s a complex rum with a lot of things going on. Very enjoyable but not your everyday easy sipper.

On the nose it presents notes of ripe tropical fruit, flambé banana, caramelized pineapple, followed by hints of wood, leather, and a funky touch typical of the Jamaican style. On the palate it is imposing: significant proof but perfectly integrated, with a complex structure alternating sweetness, spices, molasses making it very tasty. The finish is long, warm, with recalls of cocoa, tobacco, and dried fruit. A rum for true enthusiasts, to be tasted slowly and attentively. An experience to have for those who love certain aromatic profiles..😋!!

This is a very good bottling, I've had several long aged Jamaican rums recently and I thought I was bored with them. Not the case at all. Here we have tropical fruits and wood as expected, but also beautiful menthol notes which I love. The balance is perfect, alcohol is well integrated and it's well executed from the beginning until the end

Superb.. there are no other words!!! Intense, fruity, complex, long-lasting, ... notes of yellow fruits, citrus, a silky woodiness and spices... a bit of caramel and tobacco, this juice will satisfy the most demanding!!! I love it ❤️❤️❤️

An incredible nose. One of my favorites. Very good on the palate and the finish is incredible with a lot of diversity in length. I love it. Very beautiful nose, enveloping. Fruity with power, an impression of varnish on old wood. A menthol note at the end. Makes you want it! Powerful attack, not very thick, I expected more tannic. Mango compote, very gourmand. The bitterness of the barrel, sensation of blond tobacco. Very long finish with a menthol/eucalyptus freshness that emerges.

So let's just say we started this day of tasting at distilia in warchau totally wrong , it was so,fun that we actually had to back off the throttle and build the rum tasting back up nicely in abv and leave some more time in between than 3 rums every 10 min :). The first tasting notes of this clarendon were also not subjestive, but the first impression was a nice profile and aftertaste that disappeared far too quickly, now after some food we could taste a bit more seriously again, so again just smell the heavy tropical notes, yes it is hard work on this clarendon, it takes a while before the alcohol vapors let the real smells through, take the lid off just scoop with the hand and yes, this has that oil-like mango content as jam, ready to pour inside I thought, even huh ? 64% ? Where is it ? That oil esteem layer makes everything come across so nicely and flavors blend together , when you think this is weird anyway you have just created enough saliva that breaks down the oil layer and pops the full strength on your palate and tongue ... in my mind I said (F.... man🙄) in reality I kept smiling green , it's real though a work beast that bumps in all directions for a while but still breaks through after taking it in the mouth longer than normal , it's a nice rum though , that you have to rebalance a few times with the tongue , the end is coming , bitter sweet ? Short , mmm yes some points are lost here , the ending is not really right no matter how weird it sounds , I am going to test em again at home , but overall a solid tasty powerful rum that hits your taste buds very late.

There are no bad bottlings from this vintage and rum type. So this one is also very good, with the typical markers and high intensity. However, it noticeably loses out in direct comparison with the Bottle Shop, mainly due to poorer alcohol integration and slightly too high astringency, which costs volume and depth in the finish. Still an excellent Jamaica rum.

This, my friends, is really, really good! A beautifully complex piece, perfectly balanced wood, fruit and technical notes. A nice long finish. That tremendously long tropical maturation is evident and the result is really great.

Small sample to start the weekend properly 🔥🥃 Distilia Clarendon 1995 – 64.7% 27 years of aging (including 23 under the tropics 🌴), a cask strength bottling signed Distilia in collaboration with Rhum Attitude and the mythical Bar Lamp in Ginza, Tokyo... just that. And in the glass? A real chameleon. The nose explodes with fruit, then the palate surprises with a nice menthol freshness. You think of TDL... but not as much as on other Clarendon 1995. Less peach, more subtlety. It's especially on the palate that it happens: a crazy intensity, a perfectly mastered concentration of aromas. It hits, but it's balanced. Only a small shadow on the picture: a slight bitterness in the finish that teases. Clearly, this 1995 vintage... I'll have to hunt down more 👀 These Clarendon / Monymusk 95 that play hide and seek with TDL, I'm a fan 😎 Many thanks again to Boris for this sample offered for my birthday 🙏🥃

Tried on 26.04.2026 at the Whiskyfair Limburg at the Distilia booth. Crazy how fruity, spicy, and intense this Clarendon is on the nose. On the palate, so full-bodied, first fruity sweet, then spicy, woody and intense. Alcohol is super well integrated. Finish is super long, warming and lingering. You should calibrate your palate beforehand.

Magnificent, intense nose, with menthol, peach, sandalwood, and some red fruits coated in caramel. All these notes are still present on the palate. A hint of chili adds a spicy touch. Intense and oily mouthfeel. A slight bitterness at the end of the palate, but not disturbing. Long finish on wood, menthol, and juicy yellow fruits.

Very nice and intense Clarendon that is very strongly focused on marzipan with wildly shifting fruit and bubble gum undertones. There's a touch of vegetal in it as well. I preferred it with just a little water as it's quite boozy when first poured.

Blind sample but as I poured the sample I put my bet as being an old clarendon Nose: Banane, menthol, eucalyptus, very woody, coconut Taste: Wood, tropical fruits, green tea, slightly bitter, oily/heavy rum Finish: Super long, light wood, tea and spices My guess was apparently pretty good, the rum is very good

Nice complex rum at an easy drinking strength. The herbal profile reminds me of TDL. The strong palate dissapears rather fast, but you still get a nice finish. A stronger finish would give this a higher score imo.
