Smoke and campfire are the last thing you expect from a Foursquare — that's the whole point here. The familiar Bajan backbone (coconut, vanilla, dried fruit) is still there, but the peated Scotch cask lays ashtray, tobacco and a medicinal edge over it, while the PX rounds it out with raisin and sherry sweetness. At 52.5% the alcohol sits well integrated. One taster called it "heaven and hell combined" — bold, evolving, and clearly not the usual FSQ.

Wow - what a grenade. This extremely complex Foursquare perfectly combines an ingenious base product with the two barrel influences! From nose to palate, in addition to the typical Foursquare aromas, there are also light but very pleasant notes of sherry and whisky. You can also taste incense on the palate and finish, which certainly comes from the Mizunara cask - simply amazing! A slightly burnt undertone accompanies you from nose to finish, but this enhances the taste experience. For me a brilliant rum!

This rum is worth trying because of its rare cask combination, but it doesn't excite me as much as another one might. You can still subtly taste the Foursquare DNA, but what really hits hard here is the smoke, which absolutely overwhelms everything else.

A bold and unconventional Foursquare, surprising and multi-layered. The base is solid and recognizable, but the dual maturation takes the profile into new territory: noble wood, dried fruit, and a slightly smoky, almost mushroom-like note, blended with an elegant sweetness likely coming from the PX. The smoky touch is present but not dominant—it’s actually the element that surprised me the most for its uniqueness. Spices, tannins, a hint of salinity, and a toasted undertone accompany the sip from start to finish. Probably not for everyone, but for those looking for a bold and well-crafted rum, this is a memorable experience. For me, absolutely top-tier.

#5864 15.10.2025 Enjoying a few samples after work while listening to the latest trance tracks. Nose Fresh, light wood, faint smoke, fruits, light pineapple, light raisin, light coconut, faint caramel. Palate Oily, light wood, light smoke, peat, light citrus, fruits, spice, light caramel, faint chocolate. Finish Medium long, wood, faint smoke, peat, light citrus, light pineapple. Empty glass Smoke, peat, light floral, faint caramel. This is in my mind an example on how to kill a probvery good rum. The peat just kills the original flavours.

9,1:On the nose, peat, smoke, toasted wood notes with chocolate, burnt sugar, roasted nuts, leather, fruits with coconut, dried apricots, peaches, hints of sugar cane, complex, as barrel impact of sherry, mizunara finish is obvious, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, vanilla additionaly softens the angles of mizunara, as the rum becomes very balanced, syrupy, with a help of raisins, citrus and tropical fruits, slightly spicy, sweet. 9,1:On the palate, the attack is smoky, peated, whisky like, with mizunara barrel impact, the wood is roasted with cocoa, roasted nuts, caramel, leather, spicy with vanilla, frankincense, the fruits are dried like apricots, raisins, figs and prunes, the coconut is toasted, on oxidation some of the fruits become candied, as the molasses herbaceous. 9:The finish is long, dry and tannic, medicinal with hints of esters, glue, the oak is roasted, smoky, spicy, the molasses peated and the fruits less intense with coconut, pear, apricot and banana. Wow, what an awesome piece, even though, in my humble opinion, it doesn't have much to do with Foursquare anymore. Coconut is also recognizable here, but otherwise quite woody, although I can't really assign the wood.

Foursquare meets ex-whisky and ex-sherry plus Mizunara cask - and it actually works impressively well. Very round and balanced, although the whisky definitely left its marks: tobacco, smoky peat notes, spices; all of this is caught by heavy sweetness of dried fruits, vanilla, caramel, and chocolate. In terms of complexity, in my opinion the best Foursquare representative. Excellent.

Very complex, deep Foursquare profile. Extremely smoky and strong sherry influence. The integration of the alcohol is not well done. Still insanely awesome on the nose. Quite special in the mouth. Strange wood notes (Mizunara??) and sharp-spicy. Nice spice in the finish. Massive incense and resin in the empty glass. A Foursquare is a Foursquare is a Foursquare. This one is a bit off the beaten path due to the finish.

Very dark in the glass. On the nose the familiar Foursquare profile, but extended by aromas of dried fruits and nicely complex. On the palate a really nice Foursquare, very cask-driven but hardly woody. The Foursquare profile is complemented by dried fruits and lots of spices. In the medium-long finish it fades nicely, then some bitterness appears. Really a very good Foursquare that doesn't have to hide behind the Velier bottlings. Unfortunately a bit expensive.

First of all: Many thanks to Skyfly for the surprise sample! Now to the tasting: Incredibly captivating nose, really very, very inviting. So good that it hardly seems improvable. If you add perfect alcohol integration, this can actually be called an exceptional rum in the mid-90s range. But now the impression on the palate... 🙄 Unlike most other reviews, the whisky character (finish?) is clearly too dominant for me. Surprisingly, I still like the rum quite a lot, but if I had to choose a whisky-heavy rum, I would prefer the elegant NY from V&M (France Edition) (RX13824), even though I didn't like it at all on the first tasting (now I appreciate it, I should update my rating sometime). All in all, I consider the Distilia a very good rum especially because of the nose, but I would not pay more than for RX13824 for a bottle, rather less. Addendum: The longer the rum breathes, the more intrusive the peated whisky note becomes - but only on the palate. Whisky eats rum.

Oh wow!! What a treat this is!! The familiar Foursquare profile on the nose, but more complex, full, soft, with a hint of coconut juice. Less wood and spicy than I'm used to. An explosion on the palate again. Wonderfully complex, spicy notes. The PX and Mizunara play beautifully together in the flavors. Not overdone. Just perfect balance. Much less woody or whiskey-like than you're used to from Foursquare. And yes, incense indeed fits perfectly with this as well. Delicious finish, a touch dry, coconut, wood, spices and the alcohol is perfectly integrated. I love it.

The base product is of high quality, but the whisky finish is way too dominant for me. It doesn't harmonize at all in my opinion. But thanks to Skyfly for the sample. I tasted it again and slightly adjusted my rating upwards. After attending a whisky tasting yesterday where I found the smoky notes less disturbing, I raised it by 0.2 points here. Nevertheless, the peaty smokiness is too dominant for me and ruins the Foursquare profile. If I want those flavors, I'd rather drink a whisky. But it seems to be very popular in the community. To each their own.

I was very curious about this 98er Foursquare - especially because of the Mizunara finish. This is also noticeable with the typical ginger sharpness and intense tannins for me, accompanied by a nice sherry sweetness and dried fruit aroma, but unfortunately I also taste smoky whisky. After a closer look at the fine print, I find out as suspected: the rum was meanwhile aged in ex-peated Scotch (Bowmore) casks, which unfortunately costs it quite a few points for me, as I would have liked to have known this info beforehand. Only Mizunara and PX Finish are prominently displayed on the front, this info could have been placed more prominently... All in all, a well-made rum with surprisingly well-integrated alcohol, but the whisky finish and its smoky-salty (ashtray) aroma is unfortunately quite a turn-off for me and not quite what I look for in an old Foursquare. Without the finish, a higher score would probably have been possible. However, if I were to rate a rum with a successful peaty whisky finish, this would definitely be among my top 5! 😃 But that could have been written on the front of the bottle as well and not hidden in the fine print at the back...

Never ever i was so sure about my points , i had the honor to taste it among the samples of distillia , the samples were from the sins and other great stuff , so not even the competition of the sins was at stake , i never had an eye for the sample because it was extra given in the sins samples , at last we opend this sample ex bowmore px cask ..98 … so what ? Boy o boy normaly a great smell and overwelming sweetnes in the nose will result in a flat tasting profile , high abv is also most of the time less smell. This sample is the benchmark of non stop sniffing unbelievable sweet white oak. Then the taste te first 5 sec you knew , yessssss this is the stuff in my dreams , got goosebumps , shaked my head and said this is heaven and hell combined ! Never ever tasted this combination or this rebirth of mizunara( 30years old award winning bowmore cask? Sttttt) and fsq , its the best of both worlds , perfect abv that keeps kicking in 4-5 till at the end , the palet is agressive but so tenderly sweet , the oak but almost no bitterness , the fruit , the nuts, , sweet cherry , … the tiny ether , as gluw , perfect bakanced I tasted it again at warschau and yes what i forgot and what a blind tasted confirmed again , boy this is the best i tasted this year , fenomenal ,it s maybe personally but i never thougth i could find my perfect balanced dream , whisky , rum , flavours there was always a but … if you have the chance to buy it , do,it thx distilia !

Juste Waouh ! 🤩 Pas le 1er finish tourbé que je goûte, mais le seul qui m'ait plu. Pas le 1er Foursquare que je goûte, mais mon préféré à ce jour. On retrouve les marqueurs classiques de chez Foursquare, ce qui a fait leur force mais c'est ce qui m'en a lassé aussi. Mais on a surtout ces magnifiques notes tourbées, tantôt dominantes, tantôt en arrière plan. Longueur incroyable, profil évolutif dans le verre. Une vraie expérience réussie pour moi. Coup de coeur ❤️

Somehow I'm not really convinced by this bottling. Like with the Cane Bottling Caroni Finish, I'm torn. This finish is a bit too dominant for me and has too many smoky and whisky notes. I liked the Caroni Finish for the Foursquare better.

Dégusté entre amis après un bon dîner ! Très belle couleur ! Au nez on a tout de suite l’influence du fût ! Un peu de rondeur avec le fut de sherry mais c’est surtout dominé par le fut de whisky tourbé ! Aussi bien au nez qu’en bouche ! Le foursquare de base est très bon ! Et étant amateur de tourbe ce mariage marche très bien ! Même si peut être dominé un peu trop par cette tourbe on peut perdre un peu le foursquare ! Finale très longue sur la tourbe

Strong stuff, really! For a long time, a Foursquare that positively stands out from the crowd. It comes with a very complex composition of aromas that I like but have never found in a Foursquare before. Besides the typical Foursquare base notes, it brings an interesting spiciness, wonderful barrel and roast aromas, and a funny "twist effect" of Islay-typical smoky aromas. The smoke is not continuously present but comes and goes on the palate and is pleasantly subtle and not overwhelming. Nothing takes away space from the other, but also doesn't get lost itself. That's how a finish should be, that's how a finish is fun - very successful in my opinion.

I picked up a package, one of the small flacons contained this liquid gold… Foursquare for me is usually “more of the same thing”, with a couple of exemptions. This is one of those exemptions. In the nose the recognizable FSQ is present but it meets smoke and campfire. Not always, it comes and goes. I’ve never experienced Mizunara on its own in my glass, but I imagine it to be a type of (light?) peated whisky: in the mouth the Bajan profile meets an ashtray made from old sherry wood. I like this finish because for me it adds to the profile without overpowering it. I can imagine that it’s not for everyone, but I’m a fan. The ABV is in the right place for me at this moment. An atypical FSQ and for me more exciting as 95% of the FSQ that’s out there.

There is a heavy influence of the whisky cask that you can taste upfront, in the form of peat and smoked notes. The alcohol hits you during the first sip but after some time opened, it takes is backstage place.

This one caught me off guard — rich, elegant on the nose, with layers of soft oak and gentle sweetness. On the palate, it’s bold yet refined, full of character without a single harsh edge. Everything just clicks. Easily the most memorable pour I’ve had this year.

Deze rum is echt niets voor beginners , geen verwijt maar als je deze proeft en echt laat doorkomen dan besef je dat je smakenpalet ok is , perfect integratie van de mizunare , nog steeds vol de fsq smaak , echt top , wordt steeds beter naarmate meer te proeven van deze fles. That Mizunara finish is amazing. Including lightly smoky taste. It could be great whisky. But this is rum. Foursquare. It should be coconut. And it is almost not there. There is just weak FSQ and amazing Mizunara finish. FSQ taste should be more significant

Definitely a nice complex rum. First a Foursquare profile, then a certain sweetness paired with Mizunara wood, followed by a quite prominent smoky, peaty taste. As a rum drinker, this is not really my favorite profile.
