Cool mint runs right through this one — think peppermint meeting iced tea, with lemon, green apple and dry oak behind it. At 65.8% the alcohol pushes hard and turns a bit bitter on the finish, so most tasters give it air or a drop of water first. A fresh, herbal, distinctly Trinidad column-still profile rather than a rich or sweet one. Nine years in, several call it good but not remarkable.

A nice and easy-drinking TDL from Trinidad, with minty notes that I enjoy, although the mint is not particularly pronounced. On the nose, herbal and minty notes stand out. On the palate, mint is accompanied by fruity and woody notes.

#5597 23.08.2025 Celebrating Michael's 50th birthday with some good rums. Nose Medium intense, light wood, citrus, light apple, vanilla, light coconut, mint, faint herbal. Palate Fresh, medium intense, light wood, citrus, mint, light coconut, light herbal, faint peach, light roasted. Finish Medium to long, light wood, mint, light peach, light apple, faint floral, light bitter.

9 years is not that old yet, but also not too young. However, it's completely continental. I don't expect too much complexity yet. Nose: the 65% really push. Initially, it's sharp and alcoholic. Once the nose gets used to it, the fruity aromas come through. Green apple and yellow lemon with kumquat as well as fruit bread. Alongside that, fresh mint tea with herbs and some wood that leans towards cocoa powder with a slight caramel note. After getting used to the high alcohol content, a nice nose. 7.6 Palate: already strong and intense. A bit cutting and salty-sharp at the start, fresh mint takes over, followed by sweet-bitter lemon. There's also black tea involved and the whole thing is rounded off by herbs, roasted-woody aromas, and a bit of caraway. Overall a bit too demanding. 7.2

The aroma is very herbal, strongly minty, with a bit of tar and oil. Along with that, berry fruit and green tea. The flavors are distinctly minty, with a bit of a mechanical note like a lathe and violet bonbon. The finish is medium but spicy, with lingering fruity tar notes.

30-08-2025 - Rate 7.8 German Rum Festival We always visit RomDeLuxe when we are out tasting rums. This time was no different. I have said it before, but I think they have lost a little momentum with the past 20-25 bottles. Not as great as the frist 30 bottles. I know the market has changes these last few years but there are feather between the really great bottles. This TDL is however one of the better bottles they have put out recently. Nose of wood, citrus and apple. Palate with wood, peaches, mint, herbs and citrus. This must be my first T.D.L from 2016, in my opinion not an enlightenment and taken out of the barrel way too early. I hate to repeat myself, but with Romdeluxe I now have the opinion that way too much is thrown onto the market way too early.

Peppermint meets iced tea? While the first minty impression clearly screams Trinidad, I'm suddenly surprised by a fruity-sweet peach note. Unfortunately, this is quickly overshadowed by bitter notes, so combined with the fairly high ABV, it leaves a burning sensation in the mouth for me. Probably okay price-wise, but overall this rum leaves me with mixed feelings.
