I had the chance to taste the oldest rum bottled to date at the Caribbean Rum and Food Festival. This rum has it all with a beautiful basket of fruits (tropical and red +++) supported by spices (nutmeg, ...) and a ton of nuts. A noble and subtle woodiness asserts itself over a finish that is endless. In short, a balance that borders on perfection with an impressive integration of the alcohol despite the 58.8%.

Second tasting: with a bit of oxidation in the sample bottle, the rum feels more barrel-heavy but still top-notch! Nose: the rum gives a heavy impression, many different aromas that are not easy to differentiate at first. Reminds me of both well-aged Neisson (nutty, floral, Agricole) and Long Pond (umami, heaviness, tropical fruits), great combination! Palate: I experience a nice transformation from ripe tropical fruits to dry Agricole with plenty of tannins. Aftertaste: tannins and bitterness increase, black tea and grapefruit peel. Great unusual rum, I haven't had anything like this in the glass before, I like it very much, only the bitterness towards the end bothers me a little.

I'm a huge Liberation fan, so the choice for this series couldn't have been better. A wonderful color, very oily. Fresh on the nose, nice solvent and varnish notes. Almonds and macaroons. Finest woodiness. Some fruit (tropical, dried). A summery flower meadow. Extremely complex, warm. The bourbon is clearly recognizable at the beginning, then evaporates. Very powerful in the mouth, a bazaar of spices. Just a few drops are enough. A wave of spices and fruit is followed by an epic finish. 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 The expectations were fully met. Surprisingly, despite the bourbon finish, there is a strong similarity to its Capovilla/Gargano predecessors. The Sauternes contributes less than I had thought. 😻😻😻 The matching book: "Sternstunden der Menschheit" 😀

The nose reverently approaches the cesspool of sin, but finds no alcoholic sharpness, only pure promise - the promise of a heavy, siren-like sin. Then tongue and palate surrender to the sin - and indulge endlessly. A delicate sweetness at first, then I lose myself in the sin, which tastes of astringent wood, a little gunpowder and, surprisingly, brandy - and that's with a plain bourbon barrel! The aftertaste is long and ecstatic, I simply cannot keep my hands off this sin, let alone my most sensitive organ - my tongue. Maestro, I bow my head. ====== Oh well, in the absence of comparative samples of the same vintage in 2012, two rhum rhums from the year of distillation 2007 have to serve, two Veliers of truly equal quality, but probably (partly) matured in wine barrels: RX314 and RX862. While the 10-year-old Vittorio Capovilla comes across as a little too massive and musty in direct comparison, the sweet jam aromas of the only 5-year-old Libération Integrale on the nose and palate even tempt me to love this rhum a little more than the Distilia. What an afternoon indulgence in sin! 😋😋😋 I must have fallen head over heels for it ...

This is a great Bielle. Congrats to Rob for this cask selection.. An extremely elegant and complex Agricole that you can really dive into. The interplay of flavors is excellent 😋 Having it in the glass again today... and I'm still impressed, but compared to the epic set of Bielles that @bananajoe shared, I unfortunately have to deduct 0.2 points.

I have to say upfront that I'm not a fan of the Rhum Rhum Liberation series. This Agricole from Rob Bauer delivers an extremely high quality, but it's also really demanding and tannin-heavy. The 13 years of tropical aging are definitely noticeable. An intensely floral perfumed nose of citrus fruits, sugarcane, herbs, and resin, plus lots and lots of wood. Especially the strongly perfumed aspect is really not for everyone – but it polarizes even more and makes the rum exceptional. On the palate, then, green apple, salted macaroons, citrus fruits, menthol, and again an enormous amount of wood, lots of tannins, and accordingly quite astringent on the finish. Very oily, concentrated, and bitter-sour, as well as very dry. Personally, for me, it's honestly a bit too much in terms of woodiness and too bitter on the finish, but that doesn't detract from the quality. The alcohol is perfectly integrated, the finish medium-long and very intense. But you definitely have to be into this very bitter perfumed profile; it's not for every day.

A wonderful rum: got to try it in a nice glass in front of a crackling fireplace. The perfect atmosphere for this exceptionally good rum. Subtle pleasant agricole notes with harmonious cask influences, slight sweetness, a bit bitter: simply really perfectly balanced! Now I'm dreaming of my own bottle.

Immediately in the glass, it smells nutty, floral, almonds, and spices. As advised, let it rest in the glass a little longer. Then more and more sweetness comes to the fore. Tropical fruits, pineapple. On the palate, a delicious glow of various spices, barrel influences, and light sweetness. The flavors that emerge are of high quality. The alcohol is really well integrated, and there is a wonderfully full finish. It is a real treat.

I like the Liberation range, but when I first heard the price of the Sins, I decided not to buy a bottle. Then I got carried away by the reviews and bought one after all, including the sample. I don't regret it! I tasted the rum together with RX880 and RX1997. It outperforms both of them on the nose. On the palate it is a poem.

I find the nose somewhat reserved; I get floral notes, honey, herbs, pineapple, papaya. Alcohol is faintly noticeable. Very oily consistency. Great sweetness... very complex, fruity, floral with honey, sugarcane, slightly peppery. Edit: The nose develops very strongly over time!! At least 45/60 minutes.

The nose is eminently fruity, with lots of well-ripened and stewed exotic fruits (mango, passion fruit). Beeswax, mixed with mild spices (lemongrass, cardamom), adds even more roundness. Its age hasn't erased the freshness of sugar cane, ennobled by delicate woodiness. The palate surprises with an explosion of exotic fruits, chili, honey, heady floral perfume, and sugar cane. The wood wax is still very present from the start but refines towards more honeyed notes. Another surprise is this wood which tastes more like precious wood (mahogany powder) than simple oak. It's heavy, syrupy, incredibly complex. Barrel notes arrive at the end of the palate with also more mentholated accents. The finish is long, on wood and peppermint. The empty glass brings a powerful aftertaste of barrel, tobacco, honey, and heady flowers (jasmine). A great success!

#6355 13.02.2026 Enjoying a few samples while watching "Inferno" with Tom Hanks. This is a wonderful and well balanced rum with a nice intense nose and palate. I love the light smoke notes in the profile as well as the sugarcane, caramel and citrus notes. Way in the back I can also pick up som epeaches and honey.

From the hands of Rob himself at Whiskh Live. Clearly a pure juice with fiery cane accents. But nicely counterbalanced by notes of hazelnut and almond milk. On the palate, a hint of fruit brandy, tart apple, and a finish of mint, caramel, apricots and honey... it's pretty huge.

I'm really not an Agricole fanatic, but this is a bomb. Chapeau! The maturation in bourbon barrels has done this rum a world of good. Alcohol par excellence integrated! Apricot, green apple, butterscotch and allspice on the palate - rare but awesome!

Here I have an absolutely impressive Agricole with an almost endless complexity in the glass. I think I won't fully understand this rum with just one tasting. The nose is first very fruity and sweetish, then continues with nice floral notes, herbs, almonds, varnish and maybe some plastic up to woody aromas of cedarwood. On the palate again intense and very complex. A nice spiciness and peppery side is perfectly supported by the 58.8% and then goes into a fruity direction with apricot, green apple and tropical fruits. Then it goes from vegetal aromas over sandalwood and allspice to leather and again some rubber (I briefly thought of an overloaded car clutch). Some honey and cookie dough round everything off. The really long and complex finish is a real pleasure. Warm, woody tones lead over to fruity apricot and raisin. Fresh and vegetal notes lead over to tannins, black tea and a nice agricole profile which is reinforced by oak and cask notes. A very brilliant and demanding drop. Thanks for the great sample 😁!

Typical rhum rhum profile on the palate, but in essence form. Super exciting because it is the first bourbon cask. It's also exciting because it still has fruity wine notes (Gunnar also meant brandy notes). I always thought that came from the wine cask - but apparently it's the natural rhum rhum profile. Also nice complexity with dry tropical wood notes at the same time. Alcohol very well integrated. A dangerous, almost easy daily sipper. I love this rhum and the profile! Really good choice, Robert!

Tomato skin, pepper, root vegetables, sweet perfume. Vanilla, honey, floral notes, candied citrus fruits, plus cinnamon, clove, and ginger and obligatory pipe tobacco. Very complex and exciting mouthfeel, oily, dense, complex, clearly Agricole influenced. Pleasant barrel and licorice influence. The finish is very multi-layered: fine and elegant. The bouquet brings power but also a complex play of aromas.

All Agricole fans get their money's worth here. What a beautiful drop. Incredibly complex, the alcohol is extremely well integrated. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. Despite the not too long aging time, quite a lot of oak in the taste.

I'm already very excited about Rob's RRL, as the 2012 Integrale is my highest-rated RRL so far. First, let it breathe a little, then a slight fruity acidity (red currants, rose hips?) emerges, followed by dried fruit, figs, and old oak. Somehow, I get the impression that I can't get through the thick wall of aromas yet... I'll let it stand for a while longer. An hour later, herbs and more sweetness emerge. On the palate, old oak, tannins, black tea, caramel, mocha. Really good. But from memory, the Integrale remains slightly ahead.

A really successful and intense rum. Fine wood notes paired with yellow fruits, the nose is really top. You can't sniff it enough. The finish and creamy mouthfeel linger very long. Unfortunately, 2cl is way too little😪

Complex Guadeloupe rum with clear aromatic depth. On the nose warm spices, herbs, some citrus and a fine wood note, overall not quite as captivating as hoped. On the palate structured and multilayered with spicy sweetness, dry oak and an earthy touch. The ABV carries the profile well without feeling sharp. Overall a good, mature rum with a lot of substance, but it doesn't fully grab me either on the nose or palate – complaints on a high level. I probably need to repeat the tasting and give it more time.

Insanely great, intensely fruity nose. On the palate even more intense, lots of fruit, which at least partly leans more towards dried fruits, like dried apricots. Apricot jam. Along with a slight bitterness and a nice spice. The tasty drop can be savored forever. The finish fades out the fruit with slight tannins. A very nice rum, the high price remains.

Direktvergleich mit anderen RhumRhum, z.B. RX880. Als absoluter RhumRhum Fan musste ich die Flasche haben und was soll man sagen…nicht enttäuscht. Nochmal eine Spur geschmeidiger als 880. Aber auch intensiver in der Alkoholwahrnehmung. Fantastische Holznoten, Nuss und etwas Trockenobst. An der Nase klebt neben Mandel etwas Obstler. Allem in allem nicht unbedingt besser als 880, aber anders geil. Der Preis ist mir persönlich zu hoch im Vergleich zum RhumRhum 2015 und 2017, die ich als ebenbürtig empfinde und auf dem zweitmarkt noch für ca 250 Euro bekomme.

An insanely good rum that needs time in the glass to breathe. It develops from an initially quite dominant, almost sharp note on the nose to a soft basic character. I found the tea aromas of black Ceylon with sweet condensed milk and floral influences interesting! On the tongue, the agricole comes out fully, dark and sometimes pleasantly heavy and complex. It takes time to work out the individual aromas, but then you are rewarded with a great overall package. On the finish, there are again slightly bitter impressions reminiscent of black tea, wood, and intense spices and citrus fruit.

The nose and palate offer plenty of fruit, apricot, berries, dried grapes. Along with spices, fresh green notes, the cask also shows itself very intensely – on one hand in the oily, lactic acid-heavy aromas caused by the pre-filling with red wine, and also through harsh, subtly bitter wood notes. This is aromatically impressively complex and of a high quality level. A nice Agricole with the special and unique Rhum Rhum profile. Therefore, objectively without a doubt a very good rum, but subjectively somewhat off my personal preferences.

On the nose it's splendid and powerful, with tropical and dried fruit, wood and roasted hazelnuts, a slight solvent note, a sweet/honeyed and full-bodied note, and a hint of tobacco at the end. On the palate it's surprisingly floral with light toastiness, dried fruits, peppery spices, propolis honey, and something sour/winy in the long and lively finish. Leaves a very good fruity and peppery aftertaste. In the empty glass, dried fruits, wood, and spices. Oscillates between 8.8 and 8.9 Thanks to Jens for the opportunity.

Brace yourself for a meeting with the most energetic 'sloth' you'll ever taste. Here's an ode to the RRL 2012 "Sloth": The Paradox of the “Sloth”. There it stands, the Sloth. A name that promises slowness, but a bottle bursting with adrenaline. While its brothers in the "The Sins" collection — those old timers aged 50 years and more — sit puffing and groaning under the weight of their own wood aging in their armchairs, this 13-year-old rebel from Marie-Galante jumps over the coffee table. It's poetry in a glass: Imagine the sugarcane from Bielle wrote a love letter to the cane fields but was struck by lightning, breaking on the edge, a burning oak branch. The result? After the storm appears a liquid sunbeam. Where the other sins taste like dusty libraries and velvet curtains, Sloth tastes like a sunrise on a limestone cliff. With 58.8% alcohol, it's not "lazy," it's high voltage. This rum dances on your tongue like an electric guitar in an otherwise acoustic orchestra. Goosebumps. I love the minerality of the soil, as if you fished a pebble from the mountain river. The fresh water between your fingers, flawlessly captured. Not a heavy ashtray, but the fleeting scent of a bonfire on a distant beach, far from the inhabited world. The final verdict The name must be a joke. This rum is the "Sloth" because after one glass, you absolutely don't feel like doing anything useful anymore. The world may end, as long as your glass stays full. It's the only sin you'd want to confess a second time right away.

Really very nice drop, from memory quite close to the non-bourbon finished releases. As with these, I always have the basic problem with Rhum Rhum that profiling is quite difficult, so the overall impression is good, but the individual notes and nuances are very hard to separate. I prefer rums that have a higher aromatic depth and sharpness, especially for the prices asked here.

Already a fan of the 2012 liberation fp, I found a lot of similarity in this juice. With the additional barrel years, the alcohol is so well integrated that it's close to a smooth nectar. Notes of ripe banana and honey give a jammy taste with generous sweetness. It took me a while to come down (and that's not a problem). It's a BANGER.

Read full review →To classify. The exceptionally long maturation period is remarkable for 'Agricole' rums and gives Sloth an above-average complex cask imprint – without the often feared bitter or dull aging notes. The rum presents a broad aromatic spectrum of fruits, herbs, spices, floral and ethereal elements. Thus, Sloth is not an everyday rum but a limited, craft-oriented special bottling that stands out both within Marie-Galante and in the global rum context.

Rob has managed to unearth a chimera. The observant will understand the provenance and thus already get an idea of the quality of this Rhum. The distiller is a grand master but bravo to Rob in selecting it and succeeding in bottling it. 🥰. Excellent rum that I was lucky enough to taste. Lucky the one who will take it home....
