Calvados-cask apple runs the whole show here — so much so that several members struggle to find the sugarcane underneath. It's a young Bielle agricole, not quite two years old at 51%, and it drinks that way: peppery, grassy, a little pineapple and banana, but hot and sharp-edged. A few tasters call it an unlucky cask; one liked the spice more than the rest.

7,7:On the nose, smoky, burnt notes, perhaps with rubber, sugarcane, flowery, grassy with hay, fresh with tea, vegetal with mushrooms, woody, calvados barrel impact with candied fruits, pineapple, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the wood is slightly roasted with milk chocolate, peppery, spicy with cinnamon, burnt with hints of bbq, the cane is sweet with honeycomb, a bit musty, green fruits arise. 7,7:On the palate, the attack is fresh with tea, flowery, herbaceous sugarcane, candied, grassy, earthy, mineral, fruity with banana, green, citrus fruits, like a marmelade, as the wood is toasted, slightly burnt with leather, spicy, peppery. 7,6:The finish is quite short, dry, with similar notes as on the palate..

On the nose: Alcoholic, peppery, sugarcane and some barrel notes. Taste: Alcoholic, peppery, sugarcane and some barrel notes. Integration of alcohol is out of place in here. Finish: Grassy, mineral, dry, fresh, light sugarcane notes, light burnt notes. Too alcoholic for my liking and overall this was a dissapointment for me.

#7053 17.07.2026 Finally weekend and this week I've been walking a lot so now I want to relax. The wife is out with one of her Japanese friends so I can watch some Steven Segal movies at fulle blast. This one is not really me, but we are all different. Fresh profile with fruits, spice, sugarcane, light wood and light calvados.

Mhm, somehow a strange bottling. At first, quite alcoholic on the nose. In my opinion, this Calvados finish pretty much covers everything and is quite dominant. In my opinion, it doesn't really harmonize.

Mal eine nicht ganz so gelungene Abfüllung von Swell. Etwas Fass und Pfeffer sind in der Nase erkennbar, aber auch sehr alkoholisch, das Calvadosfass überlagert hier das meiste, genauso wie am Gaumen auch.

On the nose, there's pineapple, spicy cinnamon, a touch of brown caramel and oak from the cask! On the palate, banana and spice notes dominate, with a medium finish and an interesting toast that doesn't mask the aromas! Rather nice for this special edition of Duchesse Anne, an emblem of Dunkirk!

Erinnert an einen Selbstgebrannten. Obstler und Alkohol. Im Mund scharfkantig. Das war nichts. Wahrscheinlich ein Fass, dessen Lagerung man abgebrochen hat, weil man keine weitere positive Entwicklung erwartet hätte. Mit dem Rest des Samples hab ich mir meine müden Füße eingerieben.

This is not great. From what I understand this rum was finished in a calvados barrel. It creates a weird imbalance between the rum and the barrel finish. It makes me wonder whether the Bielle distillate was good to start with. Knowing Bielle a bit, we should expect that it was at least decent. With that in mind, I don’t understand this result. We end up with a fairly alcoholic brew that is neither this nor that. It bites too much and is too sharp to drink on its own. I rather had unaged Bielle to be honest.
