#1753 27-02-2026 - Rate 8.6 A very nice young New Yarmouth. The best of the young below 8 years that I have tasted. Lots of fruits and citrus in nose and taste. I usually taste a lot of citrus in the young New Yarmouth. I like it alongside the fruits and ester.

Tasted this with a few friends and we were in awe of how good this was. It definitely does better with some air as it really lets the complexity that belies its age shine. The nose goes on for days for such a young rum. Some lovely esters that show the rotting fruits alongside a quite active bourbon barrel to underpin in the vanilla, honeysuckle and macintosh apples. More spices, banana and flambéed desserts.. The finish is long and lovely with some raisins, orange, Christmas cake and caramel.

For me, this rum absolutely needs water to bring it down to low 60s ABV. The rum really starts to sing at that strength. Nose - pineapple, acetone, plastic, citrus Palate - unbelievably austere. The rum is extremely ashy, oily, and mildly salty. There is pineapple and a lot of lemon. The finish is extraordinarily long and these flavours linger in the mouth forever while the rum gives an strong drying sensation which coats the gums. This rum has a kind of philosophical precision which deserves a high score.
