8,1:On the nose, sugarcane, mineral, pungent with cheese, vegetal with mushrooms, fresh, grassy, flowery with geranium, sweet with honey, nutty, fruity with citrus fruits. On aeration, the cane is earthy, perfumed, lavender is out, dairy and yeast hints arise, some pineapple and spicy touch. 8:On the palate, the attack is oily with dairy, fresh with grassy sugarcane, flowery, herbaceous, vegetal with mushrooms, spicy with pepper, meaty, smoky with bacon, sweet with honey, the fruits are citrus with lemon, lemon peel, tropical with pineapple and dried. 7,8:The finish is medium long, as sugarcane is grassy, green, herbaceous, flowery with lavender, mineral, spicy with black pepper, smoky, buttery, fruity with citrus fruits. The nose is very intense. Sweetish, fresh buttery cream, floral and herbal aromas flow incessantly from the glass. On the palate, a heavy sweetness of sugar cane at first, followed by fresh planty aromas. It spreads oilily. The finish is accompanied by a slightly bitter, artificial note

My first Laos rum. More reminiscent of grappa or fruit brandy, alcohol is relatively well integrated. I urgently need to try this super exciting aroma in a daiquiri. Beautiful fruity and herbal notes. In the daiquiri it's a little too grassy and not fruity enough for me personally. All in all, however, an exciting newcomer from Laos.

#5620 31.08.2025 Retasting at the German Rum Fest 2025. This one is also very fresh and fruity. Nice citrus and sugarcane in the profile and light spicy to the palate. There is a nice light vegetal note in the profile. Price to quality is pretty good in my mind.

Mein erster Rum aus Laos. Für einen ungelagerten Rum eine positive Überraschung mit viel erdigen und pflanzlichen Noten. Zitrone und leichte tropische Früchte sind in Nase und Gaumen vertreten. Alkohol super eingebunden

👃🏼 = un bouquet franchement végétal et citronné, de l'ananas et une note terreuse. 👄 = le jus est un peu huileux, un peu de fumée et la teneur en alcool ne passe pas inaperçue jusqu'au la finale plutôt minérale et poivrée. Avec Vagabond Spirits, qui porte bien son nom, décollage immédiat pour l'Asie du sud-est pour un rhum blanc qu'il vaut mieux ne pas boire nature 😋

Verdict: I like spirits with their own profile and here we have a good example. Sympathetic, cane juice forward, green, a bit earthy, citric, but with a distinct buttery note. Probably nice when you age this rum, but for this spirit, maybe just a bit over the edge for me. 80 points. Nose: sugar and sugarcane, grass, edamame, butter, slightly rancid. Then mashed papaya, and ink. Palate: oily, but also still buttery. Sugar cane forward, then grass, banana leaf, herbs, a bit of lemon zest. Finish: moderate, well integrated alcohol, just a bit of pepper, and still lingering on cane juice, sugarcane, vegetal notes, lemon zest, oil, and butter.

Danke an Rodolphe für den Split. Bin jetzt endlich dazu gekommen diesen zu probieren. Laos ist ja eher diese Land, dass nicht unbedingt bekannt ist für seinen Rum. Aber finde ich jetzt gar nicht so schlecht. Wobei ich diesen eher als Mixer nehmen würde als pur zu genießen.

Interesting debut for rum from Laos, at least I had neither the country nor the distillery on my radar before. You can expect a relatively typical profile for white sugar cane distillate with some sweetness, herbal notes and citrus aromas. Possibly a great promise for the future.

Schöne Überraschung aus Laos. Süß, fruchtig (Zitrusfrüchte), grasig, floral. Der Alkohol ist sehr gut eingebunden und angenehm warm. Erinnert mich an den Chalong Bay aus Thailand Den Rest vom Sample muss ich in einem kleinen Ti-Punch ausprobieren.

"Superbe nez « agricole » des Caraïbes…alors que nous n’y sommes pas dutout 🙂 Franchement, à l’aveugle on tape clairement sur un rhum de la Guadeloupe, du côté de chez Longueteau je trouve. Assez bien de fruits, ananas confits, mangues sechées, citron vert avec une très belle minéralité, une touche légèrement terreuse, un côté végétal avec du jus de canne frais et surtout, aucune trace iodée comme certains rhum agricoles distillés en alambic peuvent donner. Les 64 watts sont assez douces au nez, ce rhum a un côté limite beurré avec des fines touches de caramel, un vrai bonbon. Bouche Les 64% se font logiquement plus remarquer, mais sans que cela ne pose le moindre souci. C’est toujours très gourmand, beurré, léger caramel, fruité avec la mangue, le citron vert et l’ananas et une canne bien grasse évidemment. La finale nous laisse une belle minéralité, assez bien de gras encore et des arômes très légèrement fumés voir épicés avec le poivre… et toujours pas de traces olives/iodes/métalliques… top !"Read full review →
