Was offered samples of the two different Arehucas 2005 rums from a friend. They are made from pure cane juice without any additives in the same spirit as the two releases of distillates from 2002. I tasted them together out in the Stockholm archipelago. This rating is about the Palo Cortado Sherry Cask Finish aged in American white oak. The nose is complex but a little weak with aromas of vanilla, citrus, orange, dried fruit, sweet spices, prune and chocolate. At the palate it’s round and complex with flavors of caramel, honey, pears and hints of cinnamon, black pepper, orange, coffee and leather. The finish is rather long, floral and complex with flavors of banana, tobacco, honey, orange and hazelnuts.
