Retour sur un petit sample de Gwenn Robyns : The Rum Mercenary Dominican Republic A.F.D 2010 Il s’agit d’un Single Cask distillé en 2010 chez AFD (Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos), vieilli 8 ans avant d’être embouteillé en 2019 à 62,4 % Je commente rarement des rhums issus de cette origine. Alors, qui se cache derrière AFD ? Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos est une importante distillerie de République Dominicaine inaugurée en mai 2010. Elle s’approvisionne en canne à sucre sur son propre domaine ainsi que chez des partenaires agricoles, représentant environ 80 000 hectares de plantations. La production annuelle atteint près de 16 millions de litres, dont les deux tiers sont destinés à l’export. Dans le verre : Le nez se montre assez complexe, mêlant dattes, café et sirop d’érable. Une note de caramel au beurre délicatement épicé complète ce profil exotique et engageant. En bouche, la surprise est au rendez-vous : une impression de Cointreau (liqueur d’orange) domine d’abord, avant de laisser place aux épices, à la vanille et toujours ce fil conducteur de sirop d’érable. La finale, douce et de longueur moyenne, s’oriente clairement vers le zeste d’orange. Conclusion Je connaissais peu cette distillerie et je dois avouer que ce distillat m’a agréablement surpris. Avec son profil singulier tournant autour de l’orangette, je m’attendais à bien moins intéressant !
