This young Mexican cask-strength pour is edgy and not fully settled; several tasters want more barrel time. Super wacky stuff. Feels like a Calvados on steroids with a good dose of ester and funk. Cinnamon, yellow stone fruit, fully ripe Williams pear, fermented mirabelle plum, bacon and incense, peach caramelized in butter. For >70% and on an empty stomach, this thing is outrageously drinkable and the alcohol is damn well integrated. Not for every day, but definitely a great drop! Chapeau to the RX and Swell team.

German Rum Festival 2025. A first, thanks to the RumX team. A sweet, fermented nose, vegetal and unusual fruit. Alcohol and cedar wood, power. Not really harmonious, but definitely an interesting rum. The palate is powerful, fermented and bitter. The aromas are not harmonious. The finish is a little short, but the bitter wood and some fruit remain for a long time. I feel like I'm in a sauna after pouring fermented alcohol over the hot stones.

#5608 30.08.2025 Tasting at the German Rum Fest. This was a nice surprise though I think it needs more barrel time to smooth it out. The overall profile is a bit edgy ans not there yet, but fruity with light wood and faint tannins. Looking forward to the release.

Thanks a lot for the blind tasting @RobBauer! A very exciting profile that starts with extreme esters, which explode on the palate with acidity and astringency, briefly flashing pineapple and berries, then developing into a pretty wild, vegetal mix of aromas leaning towards antipasti (olives, artichokes, herbs). A bit demanding, but there's a lot to discover here.

Fair evaluation at the 14th GRF: I remember the fruity appearance and the note of cheesecake with peach. However, I didn't get the real WOW effect. However, the price of around 70€ so Rob will probably not stand in the way of another tasting

On 14.GAF I was allowed to taste the first drops of the future RumX bottling. Thanks to Rob and Oli for the opportunity. The rum is interesting, but unfortunately the Swell bottling from Mexico at the time didn't really grab me either. Alcohol well integrated, but unfortunately not my profile at all. Sorry

Premiere at the Berlin Rum Festival. A matured Saturnal for the first time. Lots of tropical fruit on the nose. This tasty fruit can also be found in the taste. Saturnal's production really has potential and here is new proof. Keep up the good work!

💥 Swell de Spirits × RumX – Satvrnal JAB – 72.6% Welcome to the world of JAB: Jalisco Aromatic Bomb! 💣 A new mark that immediately sets the tone! Distilled in 2023, this rum spent just under two years in the Mexican climate, in an ex-bourbon cask, before being bottled at a tiny… 72.6%! That’s something! 😂 BOOM! 💥 As expected, this one ROCKS! And maybe even a bit too much… You get a real aromatic bomb, but with a profile still very lively, almost untamable. Behind this power that seriously shakes the taste buds, you can still detect a nice fruitiness, accompanied by subtle wood and some tannins. But in my opinion, the rum still lacks maturity and balance. The alcoholic strength dominates too much and prevents the aromas from fully expressing themselves. A few more years in the cask, possibly with a well-controlled reduction, could do it a lot of good. In short, a real curiosity, but not yet a favorite!
