Really strong New Yarmouth. On the nose, lots of fruity notes, ripe tropical fruit, along with pastry, marzipan, and a nice spice. On the palate, dense and very balanced with wood, spices, and an elegant sweetness. The balance is just right here, everything feels bold but never sharp. Great release.

The rum has been in the glass for about 30 minutes now and my eldest daughter just came into the "study" and said: "Dad, this smells really funky!" Nose: Pure Jamaica! With a big promise of ripe, sweet, tropical fruits. Glue and varnish are of course part of the package too Palate: wonderful! The promise of the nose is fulfilled with lots of sweetness and just the right punch from the alcohol. Finish: long and pleasant, without the olive/brine notes that sometimes bother me with Hampden. THIS is Jamaica rum! Anyone who loves ester spectacles: go for it!

Edit: I really like it in a Mai Tai, raised my rating. A direct comparison with the brothers from 2005 will come. From the first impression, a really very good nose. In terms of taste, it can easily keep up with other 2005s. A direct comparison will follow, so for now just a first assessment of the points.

I haven't had a really bad 2005 NY in my glass yet and this one definitely follows suit! Nose and palate are incredibly harmonious and combine tropical fruits, esters, varnish and young wood to perfection!

Litte NY side-by-side: For the 2005 vintage: on the nose the CDI 12y @55% very much hits more of the chemical notes. Funky with solvents. Very much overpowering fruity and cookie (dough) notes. The 13y CDI brother delivers more on the latter. Still funky with chemicals, but more fruits and a more pleasant nose. Also feels more intense as it is more complex. The full proof GC does the same but declasses the lower ABV CDI‘s on the nose. Brilliant NY profile! The BottleShop clearly shows it’s higher age. Cookie and cake notes with lots of vanilla are dominating here. Yet there is still ample funk and tropical fruits. Powerful and very tastey. Could spent hours with this nose. On the palate the younger CDI stays true to the nose: lots of esters and chemical notes. Some fruits (mango) and some smokiness. A bit weird but interesting. With 55% at good drinking strength while not lacking intensity just as the 13y. Again in the CDI 13y chemical notes are a bit more moderate with more cookie and fruit notes. More pleasing but still intense and funky. I prefer this one out of the CDIs. For the CG full proof again: absolute power house! Very intense with a nice balance of (lots of) funk and cookie and fruity notes. Excellent 2005 NY indeed. On the palate the BS again demonstrates what the 2005 vintage can do with some more time in the cask. More rounded out than the younger bottlings in my lineup but still very intense with ester, funky fruits and even more cookie notes excentuated with more vanilla from the cask. Looking at 2005 vs. 2009 - in general - 2005 brings more funk and esters to the table while 2009 provides even more cookie notes.

A great Yarmouth vintage! Single cask at cask strength! This rum delivers what the key data promises. Funky Jamaica rum with the typical pastry aromas. Very smooth, personally even a bit too smooth for such a funky rum. A slightly longer finish would be awesome! But maybe that’s different on another day. Awesome rum at a fair price.

With a New Yarmouth 2005, you can always expect a good bottling. And you won't be disappointed. This 2005 NY is also outstanding. On the nose, the full load of Jamaica with funk, ester, fruit and marzipan. On the palate, a complex variety of wood, fruit, esters, light acidity, some tannins and funk. That's how it should be. The finish is initially on the woody and bitter side, but later becomes slightly fruity again. Overall, a very good bottling. A clear recommendation

Great Jamaican, could easily be a Hampden. Here we also have funky esters, as well as the tropical fruits banana and pineapple. New Yarmuth has a high standard. This one definitely counts too.

#6778 12.05.2026 Relaxing with some samples after my bike training. Listening to some nice Trance Tracks on Spotify. This is a really nice rum with an OK price tag. An intense and fruity rum with nice caramel, smoke, chocolate and well balanced tannins and a spicy palate.

Extremely smooth NY 2005, the cookie dough is there as you would imagine, but here it is more reminiscent of cookies with white & pink ruby chocolate and salted caramel chunks, as well as dried strawberry pieces. Alcohol is perfectly integrated, the wood is not too dominant, pleasant light sweetness and thick viscosity. For 180€ a fairly priced bottling from BottleShop! It has everything you could wish for in a 2005 New Yarmouth, but is almost "too well-behaved" and too unresisting, but that's really complaining on a high level! 😃 Can also easily keep up with other previous benchmark 2005 New Yarmouths...

Direct comparison of the two new 2005 New Yarmouths. I have more esters in the nose at the beginning of the Bottleshop than with TWJ. Otherwise fruits and glue dominate here, nail polish. A little less acidity than the TWJ. After some time in the glass, however, the noses get closer and closer and I could no longer tell the two apart blind. The palate is dominated by esters and tropical fruits. Pineapple stands out here. Slightly more esters than the TWJ. Overall a little rougher than the TWJ. Conclusion: Both great bottlings, the TWJ has the edge due to a slightly higher smoothness. But I'm glad to have a bottle of both, they're also good value.

Kecksteig, mandarin, citrus fruits, glue and varnish, a bit salty, as well as nice pimento and wood notes. Spicy, cinnamon, nutmeg, tropical ripe, ester, vanilla, dried sugar, mango, pineapple, nicely creamy, good balance, spiciness stays all the way to the finish. Lots of ester too. This thing really dries out the mouth. Even better with a drop or two of water. Crazy that this is still available.

Sniffing the bottle makes you feel good again. In the glass: First marzipan on the nose, then the esters hit through lots of glue and nail polish. Alcohol perfectly integrated. Some baking sensation slowly follows. Great. On the palate. Very fine sensation in the first sip, the esters are there immediately. Lots of pineapple and banana. Tannins are noticeable. With this abv of 58.8, the rum is incredibly accessible for me and then offers everything you need. To remain critical, the rum is perhaps even a little too round at the end, but that suits it well in terms of taste. On the nose, however, it is simply outstanding. That's why a 9 has to go in front of the decimal point. Great bottling. Thanks to the bottleshop for the selection 🇯🇲🥃😊

🎨 A pretty pale gold to sparkling yellow gold. 👃 Lots of tropical fruits, overripe bananas cooked in butter and sugar, juicy pineapple, soursop, and others whose names escape me. Big esters boosting aromas of glue and varnish. Then, I find a more pastry and indulgent profile with aeration, like homemade cookie dough and marzipan. Some kitchen spices, young wood, a note of green olives in salt. Rather soft in the style of an ester bomb. 91 points. 😋 Wow! It blows you away. Explosion of esters, very/too ripe tropical fruits, banana, pineapple, soursop leading. You find the varnish again, accompanied by an astringent side, young woody, spicy and vanilla. I hardly find the pastry aromas from the nose. The alcohol burns a bit on the first sip, then becomes very well integrated. The ABV fits it like a glove. 89+ points. ⛳ Fairly long, the intensity fades quite quickly, more tannins, cask, dry wood, spices, salt. Quite a bit of astringency too. Still a bit of tropical fruit and caramel but more in the background. 88 points. 🏆 Excellent New Yarmouth from the 2005 vintage. I really need to find samples of the bottlings from Compagnie des Indes, S.B.S, and Cave Guildive to get a sharper opinion on these 2005s. I find this one neck and neck with The Whisky Jury bottling. TBS is softer and more pastry-like (on the nose) while TWJ is funkier and more powerful.

German Rum Festival 2026 review. 7 drams down with tasting notes before this, but i will write this review quickly straight to this app. On the nose: Marzipan notes. Fermented notes. Esters. Glue notes. Overripe tropical fruits. Taste: Nice, full bodied feel. Overripe/fermented tropical fruits. Little bit of vanilla and cookie dough as a sweeter note. Finish: Tropical fruits, esters with little bit of tannings in there. Little bit of cookie dough notes. Little bit of woody and roasted notes. Hints of strawberry yogurt notes at the end. Long finish. This rum has pretty much what i look for and what i like in Jamaican rums at the moment. Really great rum

The Bottle Shop confirms that the New Yarmouth 2005 is an exceptional vintage. The nose is intense but harmonious, with medicinal notes of glue, nail polish, and fragrant esters. The tropical fruits, especially pineapple, banana, and passion fruit, are super pleasant, while coconut and pastry aromas of marzipan and cookie dough add indulgence to the nostrils. There is also a hint of spices and very discreet woodiness that enhance this superb olfactory profile, living up to expectations. The palate profile is sumptuous, fruity as desired with pineapple, banana, passion fruit, and citrus marmalade. Spices and wood join the profile a bit more and mingle with the funk of esters, glue, nail polish, and more fermented notes for a delicious balance. The profile is rather restrained despite powerful aromas, making it both intense and delicate. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. It's a rich, very balanced profile that you can enjoy without moderation. The finish is long and very complex; the exotic fruits give way to beautiful tannins, spicier, roasted, and salty notes, as well as a more pronounced medicinal and fermented facet. A little more liveliness would have been appreciated. A brilliant New Yarmouth 2005, absolutely worth trying and still available at a very fair price, a benchmark in its field.

05-12-2025 - Rate 9.2 I really liked the 12 and 13 year New Yarmouth editions from CDI. This bottle and the new 2005 edition from The Whisky Jury, must be some sister casks but with more age. Wonderful, old and intense NY. Nose: strong and intense, plenty of esters, accompanied by vinegar and acidity. But typical NY with honey and sweet Pattex glue. Foreground of lemon with ripe banana, passion fruit, and a bit of orange. Very full-bodied and really nice. 8.8 Palate: also intense and strong here, as expected. Lots of esters and funk with plenty of acidity, lemon peel and bitter orange, banana and pineapple, glue, nail polish, and sweet marzipan. The whole thing comes across nicely creamy and meaty. Delicious. 8.8 Not for a relaxed evening but a nice finish.

First: I am not at all into ester bombs that strive to be as complex, fruity and bombastic as possible. But after trying a sample of this rum, I had to order the bottle. Fantastic bottling! Right after pouring, it emits an incredibly intense smell, which even my daughter noticed in the kitchen next door and she came over "Wow Dad, does your rum smell like that?" So, the nose is already amazing. The fireworks continue on the palate, fresh poured still wild and edgy, it becomes calmer and smoother over time. The alcohol is very well integrated and supports the aromas of fermented fruit, wood and a sweetness of cookies/pastry. The latter become more and more noticeable in the very long finish. Steep device!

A nose of esters, banana, mango, strawberry and other red fruits, which, solvents....waouh! The palate is beautifully complex. Toasted walnuts and light marzipan are added to the previous markers, a real delight. A slight smokiness appears from time to time on the finish. Long finish. Makes you want to dive in again and again. Stefan, my friend, what are you up to now?! A notch above the twj for me, you can really feel the 7 years of tropical aging. My favorite of the year (along with twj's wonderful hampden 97)!

I'm curious, given all the high ratings. The color is flawless, clear and bright. The nose is immediately full-on Jamaica. Fried ripe banana and pineapple. Funk. Due to the slight acidity, there's also a certain freshness in the scent. Everything very harmonious. On the palate, strong fruit notes with a good dose of glue. A few wood/spice notes. In the long aromatic finish, a vegetal nuance (light olive) appears. I like it better after 15 minutes than right after pouring. Excellent stuff. Great 2005 NY.

Wow, really good release! Everything I expect from a top-quality New Yarmouth, i.e. intense fruit esters, generous but elegant sweetness of cookies and marzipan, wood and spices. What is particularly convincing in the case of this rum is the balance - the alcohol strength is perfect to shine without sharpness, but with the entire spectrum of flavors in full range. Great.

Guaranteed wow effect! For me, the best representative of the New Yarmouth 2005!!! It's excellent ❤️❤️ Lots of overripe fruits, banana, pineapple, tropical fruits... esters galore, varnish/glue, a note of leather and roast, caramel... the list goes on!!!! When opening the bottle, this intense, pleasantly warm smell hits your nose right away. Notes of esters, raisins, cake dough, cookie dough, and candied fruits. In the glass, you also get some black tea, honey, and banana. The taste is super pleasant with tropical fruits and esters, with a bit of wood. You can notice the alcohol content, but it’s well integrated. The finish is long and pleasant, dominated by candied fruits. A fantastic product. So I’m tempted to order a whole bottle. Why are the good things always so expensive? ;) Still top-notch, so nicely rounded, this rum is an absolute highlight :)

A great nose. Fat and creamy with nice sweetness and esters. Fruit a little riper than the TWJ. More sweet notes on the palate. Nice and creamy with mineral notes. The fruit is not so clearly defined. There could be a little more on the back end, but there are nice earthy notes. The whole thing has a slight mustiness, which definitely enhances it. I like it very much.

If you follow me a bit, you know my favorite is New Yarmouth. After a long time, I tasted a new bottle: The Bottle Shop New Yarmouth 2005 NYE/WM 58.8% - this is a rum distilled in 2025 and aged in bourbon barrels in Jamaica (so tropical aging) for 7 years. Bottled for The Bottle Shop in 2025. The NYE/WM mark indicates a higher ester content, around 1,300 – 1,400 g/HLAA. My tasting notes: Lots of glue, tropical fruit, especially a strong pineapple scent, and at the end lots of young wood and a pleasantly long finish. Very pleasant, no burn, alcohol well integrated and the esters give it the proper Jamaican funky kick. I recommend it. For me, a very successful, relatively young New Yarmouth. Price 185 Euro, which is a fair price for such a New Yarmouth.

Crazy what NY has done with this. A total ester bomb. Lacquer, glue, theopic fruit (mango, banana, pineapple). If anyone told me it was Long Pond with a little Hampden, I'd believe them in a heartbeat. This is a real surprise at a fair price.

Funky aromas with esters, lime, tropical fruits, marzipan, and light wood. A very pleasant scent. The taste is more intense. It starts with varnish and esters. The spices come as a warming wave along with the tropical flavors. A astringency from tannins and light wood before. The spices linger all the way through to the finish.

This is a great New Yarmouth. You can clearly tell that we are dealing with a rum that likes to share its esters. However - most likely due to its age - it is balanced and perhaps even elegant (a word I did not want to use yesterday for a Hampden). This rum is mainly fruity (a lot of maracuja in the finish) and is accompanied by some estery nail polish aromas. This is a great release! Not necessarily cheap but worth the price.

I was expecting a wow effect from this rum but I was left a bit unsatisfied. Very good yes but among the trio of bottle shop rums tasted that evening: Beenleigh, TDL and NY2005, I don't put it at the top.
