Famille Ricci Navy Blend by RumX 2025
Best sipped neat with real time in the glass — it opens slowly and shifts as it breathes. This is a four-country Navy blend: Jamaican esters and banana, roasted woody Guyana, spice and mint from Trinidad, with a faint tar-and-solvent whisper. Most love the layering, though several note the finish runs short and the components don't always fully knit into one whole.

Wow, extremely good blend! Hampden dominates slightly, but you can still taste Guyana and Trinidad. Really good!

The blend is not bad per se, but the individual components don't mix into a coherent whole for me. The NY portion dominates the taste, the caramel note is personally too pronounced for me. Alcohol could be better integrated. Strongly astringent.

A rum tasted at bar 1802 during the RumX party at WLP25 and at the first RumX meeting. A nose with a very broad aromatic palette, but each component appears a little timid, drowned in the mass. Edit: re-tasted and the Jamaican and Guyanese notes take over. The first taste is soft, then the aromas rise a little. Here too, a very broad aromatic palette where the fruity, floral and spicy notes of the TDL dominate. Edit: TDL is rather dominated by Jamaica and Guyana. The finish is balanced and elegant. A great success, even if the quest for balance was, for my taste, to the detriment of personality. Edit: the finish is less balanced but has more personality. I prefer it. I don't feel the Caroni in the blend. Edit: the Caroni is perceptible at the very end. It doesn't seem to be the same rum, Oliver explains that it was well oxygenated before the final bottling.

Very well balanced and exceptionally enjoyable. Needs some time in the glas to open up and show its full potential.

The names of the rums in the blend promise a lot! Very tasty Navy Rum, where the Jamaica portion stands out the most for me today. Intense, it serves its aromas rather with a fine blade. Unfortunately, the finish is a bit short.

8,7:On the nose, copper, roasted wood and allspice, evolve pastry, tropical fruits like banana, minty, flowery molasses, bump into our nosetrils. On long aeration, it's potential grows and balances, as tons of various confectionery arises, salted caramel, roasted nuts, some anise, delightful red fruits and rubber, tar. 8,7:On the palate, the attack shows the complexity of this rum with tons of roasted wood notes like butterscotch, roasted nuts, various confectionery, sweet and salty, spices, pure oak, as tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, cherries, minty molasses, even dark with licorice, industrial marks with rubber and tar, quite strong copper, even esters. 8,6:The finish is long, tannic, the roasted wood shows darker facet with cocoa, still spicy, the molasses is fresh and minty, the fruits dried and tropical.

Super ricci / rumX evening at 1802, a huge thank you to all 3. A tasting to be taken in hindsight, because after a day at the live venue, a Korean restaurant and a daiqiri high ester, it needs to be tasted more calmly. A good blend, very well produced. Each provenance makes a statement.
Review by TheJackDrop

The Navy Blend from Famille Ricci and RumX is balanced and harmonious, but remains somewhat restrained. Spices, wood and nuts meet subtle exotic notes without any one flavor dominating. Easy to drink, I really like it
Review by Julien Ries
Exoticism delights the sailor and you feel the heady perfume of exotic fruits (papaya, mango, exotic fruits) in the slightly esterified breath of the courtesan, mixed with the sweat of the crewmen who didn't have time to wash after tarred the shrouds of the running rigging. This Caroni tar coats the nostrils as if the Exxon Valdez was burping in your face. A camphor-menthol background comes in like an old sea wolf at the back of the bar getting a poultice on his leg to mask the smell of an infection that will require a wooden leg. By the way, the leg has finished being carved from a mast and the finishing touches are being applied. The saltiness of the sea spray accompanies the wood varnish. All this is musky, you feel it is a gourmand and harmonious rum like a well-built harlot who will cash the sailor's pay to take the edge off. The attack is frank like a brawl with a bottle shard between two drunks who had their tot mugs, those little pewter cups for their daily rum ration, stolen. The mouth is also explosive like a musket shot, on exotic fruits and licorice, as acidic as the contents of a spittoon for chewing tobacco. A fairly marked but fleeting bitterness is quickly replaced by this oily garage taste. A mechanic with calloused and grease-blackened hands just punched you for making eyes at the prostitute he coveted. You wake up putting your cap back on your head, dusting off your pompom.

Nice blend, but somehow lacks that certain something for a top rating. At least I find it better than after the boozy night at the community meeting :) Otherwise, all the components are recognizable here: mint, wood, tropical fruits, esters, but also some dark chocolate. Only the typical Caroni is somehow missing.

Shy nose, hints of mint and dark/ red fruits Mouth dominated by TDL, a bit dirty funk, Jamaica is there, New Yarmouth taking center stage after a while, nice esters, wood, wild on the tongue, wood spices, dark fruits, integration of the components could be better, finish medium long, dry, tannins, hints of tar Good rum, but for a Navy rum missing the dark, leather, cigar notes of Guyana Disclaimer: might be influenced by a day of drinking at WL25 😇

I've now had this bottling in my glass for the 3rd time... and I have to say... it's good, but unfortunately it falls short compared to the Spirit of the Day and Trinidad of Soul... it lacks a bit of complexity, the fruit content is quite low
Review by Martin Spooner
An der Nase ein schönes Aroma von tropischen Früchten mit einer note von Minze. Am Gaumen dann eher die geröstete Kirsche mit einem warmen Abgang. Gefällt mir ganz gut. Macht einen relativ ausgewogenen blend.

The Navy Blend from Famille Ricci and RumX is all about balance and restraint. The nose is shy at first and needs time for the aromas to open up. You sense spices, wood, and nuts initially, only after some time does a kind of exoticism reveal itself between banana, tar, menthol, and caramel. The balance means the aromas neutralize each other. The aromas try to break through on the palate but in the quest for balance, nothing really stands out. The New Yarmouth profile seems to take over with its classic side (not pejorative, especially to associate the spicy, caramelized, woody, toasted notes and dried fruits) but overall it lacks personality to differentiate itself from the rest. A bit of tar and menthol add to the mix but don't quite hit the mark. The alcohol remains well integrated. The finish is short, thin, and leaves us wanting more. You find the classic profile on spices, wood, and caramel. Some fruity notes come here and there on this tannic and dry profile. A good rum to drink, which probably deserves a bit of oxidation to fully express itself.
Review by Skyfly
A very complex blend in which all three islands are recognizable from nose to finish. I cannot detect any real dominance. Great Guyana notes with wood and dried fruits meet light esters and tropical fruits from Jamaica. The TDL brings some nice mint with it, but the Caroni is only perceptible in accents. Conclusion: A good blend, but not a top-class navy blend
Review by Alexander Rasch
I really like the nose, as there's a lot going on here. The sweetness from the NY, the dark from the Guyana part, the red fruits from the TDL and the light Caroni dirt. Everything comes together and harmonizes well. On the palate, on the other hand, it seems a little wilder and it is no longer so clear which part is doing what here. The blend needs time in the glass. Then it becomes clearer, the wood becomes less, but the bitterness is still a little too present for me. The finish also has a lot of wood ... A nice blend, but with the proportions you somehow expect a little more body on the palate. Tastes good to me but doesn't come close to the first HQNB Ed 31 from RC.

Here I have a well-balanced and tasty Navy Blend. The nose is very fruity, spicy, and thanks to the Jamaican rum has beautiful esters. Tropical fruits like banana, pineapple, and passion fruit go through floral notes to a woody and spicy side. Cocoa, some leather, and light herbs are also present. On the palate, a wonderful sweetness comes through Guyana and Jamaica. Then follow baking spices, tropical fruits, licorice, roasted notes, esters, and a bit of mint. The wood is nicely balanced and plays perfectly with cocoa, allspice, and leather notes. The Jamaican share is very present here. The harmonious and long finish is very complex and offers similar aromas as the palate. The fresh and spicy tones linger in the mouth for a long time. Here Guyana and Trinidad make a good impression. This blend drinks very pleasantly despite the 57%. Thanks to @Oliver for the nice bottle. 😃

Continuing the horizontal of Navy Rum. Let's see what this collaboration between Ricci and RumX has to offer. 👃 First nose carried by Guyana, a bit of copper, sap and wooden still for me. After a good hour of airing; mint chamomile tea, sap again, pine, chocolate, roasted coffee, dried fruits, fruit molasses caramel, fruit tree flowers, basket of various fruits, potpourri, scented oils, tar and light varnish. Not very pleasant traces of artichoke and caramelized green pepper with kitchen spices. Alcohol a bit present on the nose. The olfactory markers are varied but I find them lacking overall intensity. 😋 The wood is well present, quite dry, astringent and tannic. Quite a lot of lively and spicy spices, dried mint, licorice, pine sap, the typical esters of New Yarmouth, acidity of still green fruits, sour cherry. Light tropical fruits, fruit caramel from the nose. However, I hardly perceive the typical empyreumatic characteristics of Caroni. Alcohol still quite lively, I find it lacks integration. ⛳ Warm, spicy, dry, bitter. Tropical fruits and soft caramel, woody astringency, spices and cocoa, dried mint, black tea. Not very long, fades too quickly compared to what the palate and alcohol degree promised. 💡 A good Navy Rum that trades its intensity and aromatic concentration for a balanced and layered profile, with quite present alcohol. It lacks a little something extra to raise it to the same level as the other Navies tasted previously. 🏅 My current ranking; Velier Royal Navy (92) > SpiritoftheDay (90) = Swell Funky Navy (90) > Velier Replica (87) > Tiger Shark (86+) > Ricci RumX (85) > Mister Fogg batch1 (75).

Today three Navy blends in comparison: the RX Ricci, Spirit of the Day and the Swell. The Ricci and SotD are more similar with dried fruits, rubber, workshop, freshness; Ricci leans more towards spice, SotD more menthol (and plum jam?). The Swell stands out a bit more, more funk (but it was fairly sold as a funky Navy). On the palate I like the Ricci very much.
Review by Rumantisch
A very tasty rum but not suitable for beginners with wonderfully integrated 57% vol. Spicy and fruity in the mouth, Jamaica and Guyana in interplay. Made for experienced rum connoisseurs. Highly recommended.
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Really nice, elegant and balanced Navy Rum with what feels like a fairly high proportion of Trinidad rum in the blend, which comes out as the most dominant for me. Jamaica brings light esters, buttery fruit notes and funkiness, Caroni minimally dirty but barely noticeable in the background, Guyana I actually hardly perceive strangely, Trinidad TDL brings for me the main share with mint, cola and citrus fruits, which is rather unusual for Navy rums for me but quite fitting. Overall really tasty and elegant but I miss some depth and spice and a bit more Guyana share... But it can all depend on the day's form.

#1734 27-02-2026 - Rate 7.8 I like blends. But most if it’s blends from the same distillery. I’m usually not the biggest fan of cross distillery blends. Often findes the a bit messy. I like it when I can place a rum when I drink it. This is not the case with cross distillery blends. This one is in the better end. Nice nose and I can find some Caroni in the taste
Review by Christian Rudt
Initially very fruity aromas of both tropical and red fruits are perceptible. Slowly, dirty tar aromas come in and take over. But Jamaica does not admit defeat here either and strikes back with full fruit power. On the palate, we have a little bit of everything. I can taste cherry, tar, esters, licorice and a little mint. What somehow bothers me, however, is the lack of harmony between the ingredients. It seems less rounded overall and more like a composition of great individual parts that you would like to taste separately. The finish is very dry and astringent. Perhaps the blend would have benefited from a longer resting phase before release. I would rate the alcohol integration as good. As with the first taste, my expectations were not quite fulfilled. The art of blending is simply very complex.

Anyone advertising blending standards is really reaching far. But okay... in the end it is certainly successful. In my opinion, no chance against the Velier Navy Rums (Old Navy and Tiger Shark). Undoubtedly many nice nuances and a bit of everything... but personally too little Caroni for me. Alcohol is well integrated but it really needs to rest long, otherwise it bites a bit. Complaining on a high level :-)

Ricci vs. RumX, number 25000, big names, big expectations? Actually, I approach this blend a bit skeptically. There are countless navy blends in all qualities and alcohol strengths. Unfortunately, only good base rums too often don't make good blends. It's different here: the three countries alternate effortlessly without overpowering each other. First up is Jamaica on the field, and besides the well-known Hampden esters, I immediately notice some pastry that probably comes from New Yarmouth. Then it continues with a herbal-mineral note, naturally coming from the DDL barrels. The finish offers vegetal-dirty notes, the TDL mint is there, and I even imagine a bit of caronish tar. Nice blend, which, although pricey, still convinces me! Maybe my rating is a bit high, but I just like navy blends and this one does a lot right!

Nice to have the thing in front of the gun. Was poorly packed, luckily the bottle arrived intact. Label is a bit crooked, but that doesn't matter. The scent is insanely diverse. I would almost say perfectly balanced, you want to bathe in it. Fruit, wood, spice and the necessary portion of dirty workshop, wonderful. Then on the palate a real experience. What a great rum. The flavor notes noted above are simply all there and alternate. With a perfectly integrated alcohol content. The finish is unfortunately a bit too short, that's a pity, you drink too fast!

Tasted at 1802 Needs some time to balance, dominates Guyana at the moment
Review by Fuwi
Comes very pleasantly dark in color, which promises something big on the nose and palate. The bottling is overall very TDL-heavy, lots of menthol and cooling, spicy influences. Unfortunately, that’s not my thing at all, but Ricci, Oli, and Rob can’t help that. A nice Navy that brings a lot of character and with which you can have fun in the glass if you take the time for it to open up.
Review by BnBrt
A very, very good pick. Exotic fruit on the nose, a little heaviness and a few hints of vanilla. A little pepper? Very appealing. Beautiful attack, a bomb of ripe exotic fruit. Intense, pleasant length. On exotic fruit. A touch of leather, a hint of vanilla and a little heaviness.
Review by Mentalo
Nice blend. Jamaica brings a nice fruity note, Guyana roasted notes and spice, T.D.L a slight mint note and unfortunately I can't taste anything from Caroni. But that's okay. Harmonious blend with unfortunately too short a finish.

Whisky Live Paris 2025 - to be tasted again to confirm score and notes A nice navy blend, but I didn't fell in love with it.
Review by Andzin
Being a fan of Rum-X, TDL and lately also navy blends, I couldn't miss this release. The nose promises a lot. Lots of variety and you can smell it all evening. Beautiful dark color. Also varied in taste but here the taste of wood with the associated bitterness and sharpness already predominates. But you kind of expect that with Navy. I haven't had this year's Blacktot Master blend yet, it will be an exciting comparison. I also like the transparency and you can see the authors played with the ratio. I'm curious about the reaction of our rum community, where one bottle will now go.

Review by Gheller Franco
A truly well-balanced Navy-style rum blend, with perfect harmony between each distillery that knows how to make the most of this blend.
Review by Alexandre Fatio
A wonderful discovery during the evening at Bar 1802, thank you Morgan. A masterful blended rum, where each origin contributes its own stone to the edifice. On the palate, it's a veritable tropical symphony. Typically the style of Rum I appreciate and would like to have in my cellar,
Review by Roman Lelek
The nose - woody, then fruits and then something like licorice or something like glue or solvents, esters. The color- gold, dark The taste- complex but balanced- not sweet, but fruity tones, dry or astringent.. The aftertaste- warm medium or long, dry little woody, To sum it up - good job, not for beginners, but for more experienced, I would recommend. The longer it stays in the glass, the better taste you get…I would say that the more Jamaica tones I feel..
Review by Christophe Poletto
An impressive blend, balanced, complex with good length.
Review by Greg_Stutt
To be enjoyed in peace and quiet, after a busy day at WLP and a Daiquiri high ester at Bar 1802, the Jamaique and Caroni respond well to the call, a blend finally well balanced on the finish.
Review by Pavel Spacek
Like standard blend - nice rum without any overhelming part

classic navy blend profile but with fairly aggressive alcohol, egg-shaped flavors but still a great navy blend, just too expensive in my opinion.

Review by Martin Švojgr
I was really looking forward to this rum, the raw materials used for this blend are phenomenal. However, I am quite disappointed. It seems to me that Hampden stands out a lot and suppresses the taste of the other components. I love Hampden, but here its dominance is simply a shame :-( Also, I find the alcohol not well integrated, the taste seems burning to me. I'll give it another chance next time, hopefully it will taste better.
Review by Rumeumel
One of the best rums I’ve ever had in my mouth. An insane blend with depth, esters, and a bit of "dirt." Incredibly "cool." Great stuff.
Review by Jacques etdom
Very well worked blend, all components blend into each other. We have the yellow fruits of the tdl, the pastry side of the NY 94 and the marked woodiness of the port mourant. Also a chocolatey side, spices and some red fruits. However, I do not detect either the Hampden or the Caroni (the latter perhaps only gives a bit of depth and complexity). Despite the 57 degrees, the palate has a nice liveliness. Relatively long finish on wood, spices and brown sugar.
Review by Buddudharma
I'm generally a big fan of Navy rums. This one is also very good for my taste. The fruitiness of Hampden is combined with the caramelly sweetness of NY, with the spiciness of TDL and a hint of Caroni serving as a foundation. Not quite on the same level as the Velier Old Navy, but still an excellently made blend that strikes a wonderful balance between relaxed drinking and beautiful complexity.
Review by Vinsdorf
Too much Hampden at the beginning but after a while its much more decent and esters are fading. Caroni and TDL is not present unfortunately. For me its like very nice old blend of jamaica - good enough but not what I expected.
