Red wine and dried grape lead the nose, with cedar, sugarcane, pepper and anise crowding in behind. It's an experiment: the wine-cask sweetness and the distillery's own herbal, roasted side don't quite settle together, and several tasters say the flavors clash more than they blend. Long, drying, bitter-edged finish. At 60% the alcohol shows but stays mostly in line.

I don't know why, but I really love the specific aroma of Nine Leaves. It's absolutely unique. Nose: Oh, my favorite umami ! In this time, combined with overriped grape aroma. Maybe some rhubarb, sugar muscovado, red fruits, mirabelle plum, dark berries. Delicate vanilla & licorice aroma. Palate: yammi ! Rich umami flavor, overriped Isabella grape, sake, green, young hazelnut, sweet fruit cake, custard. Really nice ! Aftertaste: medium-long. Lot of berries, grape, umami, spices. Conclusion: amazing character of the distillery. It's still not for everyone, but it's absolutely unique.

Ganz ehrlich was denkt man sich bloß bei diesen Abfüllungen? Oh was für ein finish oder ist es überhaupt ein weinfinish oder eher ein Rotwein mit Rumfinish? Also bis auf das Label mal wieder konnte ich nicht viel gutes daran finden.

Whisky Live Paris 2025. Un nez un peu bizarre, brandy et vin rouge, bois de cèdre et au second plan les fruits ; fruits jaunes, poire et coing et de la sucrosité qui enrobe le tout. La première bouche est chargée en alcool ici aussi Brandy et vin rouge. La bouche n’est pas très harmonieuse, les arômes s’entrechoquent. Le bois de cèdre est bien présent et le coing est un peu en retrait, d’autres fruits jaunes aussi. La finale est longue, marquée par une amertume de plus en plus forte et ce n’est que tout à la fin que les fruits, le bois de cèdre et la douceur se refont une place.

#5718 27.09.2025 Day one of the Whisky Live 2025, which this year looks better organized/arranged inside. Another try with a wine cask and it's marginally better than then other releases. The wood is more in the background where the fruits come to the front and sugarcane with anise follows.

An eccentric alliance between red wine barrels and Japanese rum, this cuvée is both intriguing and perfectible. The nose first reveals aromas of wine, raisins, and red fruits. This is followed by the house's more classic aromas, with sugar cane, peppery and roasted notes, aromatic herbs, aniseed, and sugar. It's not bad, but the aromas are scattered and don't blend very well. The palate is slightly better in terms of flavor integration. It is a little more structured but far from incredible. The red wine and raisins bring roundness to a woody, peppery, aniseed and herbaceous profile. There is a hint of yuzu lemon and caramel in the background. It is not uninteresting but it is far from being a great wine. The alcohol is not too badly integrated. The finish is quite long, focused on spices (chili pepper, anise), wood, vineyard fruits, and herbaceous notes that give way to sugar cane. The profile is slightly more bitter and dry, retaining its vinous, spicy, and herbaceous character. This rum would be fine for an aging experiment, but it is far from the standards set by the distillery.

This year, I was able to taste the whole lineup, and... unfortunately, it's not better. The rums are younger (2017 to 2020) and overall even less convincing. The series mainly relies on finishes: 2020 Sherry Pedro Ximénez – 60% and 59% 2018 Spanish Oak – 59% 2018 Armagnac Cask – 59% 2017 Red Wine Cask – 60% If I had to save one, it would be the 2018 Spanish Oak: a dense, full-bodied finish with the impression of "chewing a licorice stick." Interesting, without being transcendent. You can clearly feel that this range remains experimental, searching for a balance between the base and the type of aging. But for now, I must admit: I'm not the target audience. Rums for tasting more than for pleasure, perfect for a tasting club or a discovery session, but not really bottles I'd want to keep in my bar.
