The nose is the highlight: juicy tropical fruit, esters, glue and solvent, a little marzipan and toasted nut. #5713 27.09.2025 Day one of the Whisky Live 2025, which this year looks better organized/arranged inside. A pretty nice HGML but I did expect more. Fruity with esters and light spicy tingle on the palate. The wood is well integrate and there is a light marzipan note in there as well. In the background there is some glue and solvents.

A rollercoaster. Three tastings, three different feelings, but overall this is pretty weak compared to (High) expectations, at least in my opinion. The nose is interesting, tied to esters, so varnish, glue and agrumes, plus some tropical fruits. The point is, the palate does not keep up and adds a whole new layer that doesent fit in very well in my opinion. In fact, it is a tad salty and astringent, and this spoils the overall good profile

Tasted against an HGML lab sample directly from Hampden, also from 2018 but at 62%. For my personal taste very successful and complex and quite underrated here. The lab sample (also HGML 2018, but at 62%) is even more complex, balanced, and simply outstanding and gets a 9.0 from me.

It consists of four Hampden rums, aged from 4 to 9 years, all bottled at 60%: DOK 2021 HGML 2018 <>H 2017 LROK 2016 If I had to pick one, it would be the <>H 2017, endowed with a beautiful natural sweetness, well balanced and fruity, even if it lacks a bit of length on the palate. In terms of taste, this series is nothing revolutionary, but it stands out thanks to its magnificent labels signed by Cristina de Middel, which glorify the Hampden distillery through her artistic vision.

Superb nose in New Yarmouth style, still very juicy fruits, a bit of marzipan, esters, grilled walnut with smoke. The palate is disappointing after this very nice nose. Acidic fruits, almost borderline. The wood takes up a lot of space for a Hampden. A tannic sensation for a very dry finish. Average finish. Given the price, a bad quality-price ratio.
