#5705 27.09.2025 Day one of the Whisky Live 2025, which this year looks better organized/arranged inside. This is a nice ester bomb with a whole load of overripe and rotten fruit. I still didn't convince me and the price tag is too high in my mind. Intense and fruity with light wood, ester, glue and spices and a very long finish.

It consists of four Hampden rums, aged 4 to 9 years, all bottled at 60%: DOK 2021 HGML 2018 <>H 2017 LROK 2016 If I had to pick one, it would be the <>H 2017, with a nice natural sweetness, well balanced and fruity, even if it lacks a bit of length on the palate. On the taste side, this series isn’t revolutionary, but it stands out thanks to its beautiful labels by Cristina de Middel, which highlight the Hampden distillery through her artistic vision.

There comes the ester monster, as usual with short tropical ageing. Someone told me that for such High levels of esters, the decrease when ageing is too long. So 4 years could be fine? Well, the result is pretty "balanced" for such high esters count, yet it is much more a "case study". Esters with varnish, glue and, lemon juice dominate with tropical fruit in the background

First Hampde DOK I've tasted (I missed out on Habitation Velier's 2017) and I'm not disappointed at all, quite the contrary. It's a beautiful beast that I find quite close to <>H (HV 2016) in the end. The reduction to 60% is probably good for it, as more watts would perhaps make it too alcoholic. So yes, 4 years is young, but I don't care about the age meter as the juice is so tasty. On the other hand, I don't find it as aromatically intense as the Long Pond Cambridge (2010) and TECC (2007), which remain Jamaica's sacred monsters in my opinion.
