Sipped neat, this is a 21-year tropical-aged Demerara blend that drinks easy for 50%. Expect dried fruit, dark cherry, anise, wood and a little cocoa, with a light herbal freshness on the finish. Tasters call it gourmand and rounded, "gefährlich süffig" for the ABV. The recurring note: pleasant and balanced, but not the concentrated old Velier Demerara some hoped for.

#1718 16-01-2026 - Rate 8.2 Another top 5 rum to taste in 2026. Again Velier with low ABV of 50%. Does it bring it home? Almost. Nose of dried fruit, spice, wood and raisin. Palate of wood, dried fruits, tobacco and raisins. Short finish dominated by wood and raisin 27-02-2026 - Rate 7.5

Really nice elegant nose, pure Demerara. Blind, I would guess a mix of Port Mourant and Albion/Skeldon tip because on one hand it comes across very herbal and spicy, on the other hand it brings great sweet, rather heavy notes like cinnamon and coconut. Also very round in taste, alcohol content perfectly chosen—not too thin, not too strong. A lot of fun and has a nice elegance. Not high-end in terms of material but still better than expected!

#5711 27.09.2025 Day one of the Whisky Live 2025, which this year looks better organized/arranged inside. A pretty OK DDL actually with a medium heavy profile. Wood is balanced really well with the anise, tobacco and light herbal notes. In the back there is some dried fruit, spices, light cherry and some caramel.

Rich and deep Guyana nose with the defferent stills (marks) contributing nicely. Spices and sweet tea alongside dried fruits, cocoa and wood. Tasty! A complex Guyana profile on the palate as well. Freud fruits and chocolate take center stage, with herbs more in the background.

This Guyana is dangerously easy to drink. On the nose, its aromas of dried fruits, spices, and barrel gently spread... very pleasant. This play of aromas continues on the palate... the light anise sweetness is always a nice contrast to the barrel and herbal notes. I really like it.

Whisky Live Paris trade fair tasting. Impressions and evaluation are based on immediate impressions from the tasting glass. Guyana blend from various marques, each contributing their own distinctive flavors to create a pleasing potpourri. Good quality, but in my opinion it lacks the final refinement. Retasting of the official release (note - at Whisky Live the Full Proof release was still offered, the final release has been reduced from 53.1% to 50% ABV). The nose impresses with aromatic richness, a deep and complex sweetness of caramel, molasses syrup, dark chocolate and vanilla. Along with a spicy aroma spectrum of tobacco, anise, licorice and leather. On the palate, the flavor richness fades somewhat, it remains a high level, but the spectacle is missing. What remains is still a very good Guyana release, even if it can’t quite keep up with the other Velier Demeraras.

In this Guyana blend, the nose is amazing and very reminiscent of El Dorado's Albion! Where it falls short is in the tasting, where you find all the typical Demerara rum flavors but they come across as flatter and less sharp! It would be a nice drink for someone wanting to get into Demerara rums, but the bottle price is too high for what it offers!

Although a blend, it’s old and fully matured in the tropics. That sounds very promising. Nose: wonderfully full-bodied, intense, and well-balanced. Spicy and dark fruity, woody and toasty. Dried blood orange with blackcurrant and pickled dark cherry. Plus a fine sweetness between maple syrup and honey combined with molasses. The bourbon cask is pleasantly present and pairs well with vanilla, cocoa, and tobacco. Very nice nose with very well-adjusted alcohol. 8.8 Palate: clearly on the woody-toasty side here. Initially bitter and bold, mineral-salty, slightly peppery with nutmeg and caraway. Then also bitter orange, dark cherry, and dark chocolate with mocha. It gets a slightly herbal note and moves towards tobacco and pecan nut. There’s definitely PM in there. Strangely, it feels a bit thin at times. Overall very nice. 8.4

Given the average rating, I didn't expect anything extraordinary, but I really like this rum. Extremely complex with lots of dark aromas but also fruit and light sweetness with well-integrated alcohol. Without dilution, this rum could definitely have been a knockout.

Whisky Live Paris 2025 - to be tasted again to confirm the score and notes. A nice Demerara from Velier. For sure a blend, but the stills are undisclosed. Pleasant to drink, woody and rather herbal with a fresh note from aniseed that reduce my score, i'm not a fan of this side but overall it is not overwhelming.

WLP: Ultra praised by the public, I admit I really liked this juice too, even if it was almost too "simple" to drink. Very indulgent, chocolate, slight hint of cooked fruits and a fresh, slightly herbal finish. Ultra drinkable, a little simple pleasure (but probably expensive).

I expected much more and can't quite understand this release, the first bottling after the legendary earlier Guyana series. Nice tropical aged Guyana profile with clearly too many dark spicy notes. Dominated by molasses, slightly burnt caramel, licorice, nutmeg. I'm missing fruity notes. Alcohol is borderline despite the dilution.

Vale Royal 2006 – 65% A superb, concentrated, promising nose... but on the palate, it's another story: unbalanced, too acidic and spicy. A bit disappointing for a 19-year full tropical. Guyana 2004 – 53.1% Another full tropical, this time 21 years old! Since the end of the collaboration between Velier and DDL in 2015, we didn't expect to see a Guyana branded Velier anymore, so this is a real surprise of WL 2025. Even if the blend of stills and marks remains quite mysterious, the result is pleasant, indulgent, with a style that evokes Versailles. A tasty rum, without being stunning, for its age and origin. 👉 Clear preference for the Guyana rather than the Jamaica! And special mention for the very successful old-school yellow and red labels.

Very nice nose, complex and balanced. Alcohol very well integrated on the palate, fairly light texture. Notes that balance well between fruit, wood, tart, sweet, and bitter. A hint of soft smoke wraps it all up. Medium-long finish. Curious to see what oxidation might bring to it. It's very good, but you'd expect more from a rum with 20 years of tropical aging.

21y.o. Guyana, angels share over 70% Nose: Qiure amazing & delicate. Woody, cherry & cherry wood, wax, furniture polish. Lot of dry fruits: dry cherry, prunes, raisins, dry cranberry. Spices, hint of anise, leather & Christmas cake. Some demerara sugar and tobacco. Palate: blackcurrant, Unbelievable ! Bubblegum, cherry, berries, woody, spices, anise, cinnamon. Fantastic. Very good. Aftertaste: long, deep, littlebit sweetness. Some leather, wood, spices, anise & berries. Tobacco, raisins. Conclusion: it's very deep, complex, & unusual rum. This berries aromas are beautiful. I wanna sip again & again 😅

A gourmand and well-integrated rum with a floral finish. It's easy to drink. But the price is ridiculous compared to the overall quality, it's like watching Mike Tyson against Jake Paul. The legends are not always present.

It’s solid not mega, just a little unbalanced and lacking proof. The nose has a Versailles edge, herbal, and woody. The mouth brings more of that and some more Port Mourant elements, deep decadent wood and mocha with some caramel. Finish more brown sugar and some sap and green vegetation. Enjoyed it

Read full review ›Well, no problem with that, it clearly is, and you get quite a bit of pleasure from a "simple" and pleasant tasting... but the memory of the old Demeraras from Velier means you're clearly a bit disappointed, you don't find that strength and concentration we loved so much. Another issue is that €359 is a price that will be very hard for most people to pay. The main problem with this bottling is that the concept and price of this rum are clearly aimed at a very specific audience, who will expect more in terms of taste than the rum offered, good as it is.

Fantastic nose, with strong VSG influence. Pencil shavings, dried flowers, wet roots. Very intense and woody on the palate. Here the sweet column components show up, but also some sharpness. Per se a really good bottling, but doesn’t come close to the old Velier Demeraras.
