A rum tasted at Whisky Live in Paris in 2025. You can feel the age of this rum, with domesticated esters, cedar wood and leather. But also freshness with vegetal notes. The palate is less interesting, chaotic, bumpy, acidic and spicy. On the finish, everything falls into place and the rum reveals itself to be greedy and well-balanced. Perhaps it needs some oxidation? As it is, I'm not convinced: the palate is far inferior to its predecessors. What's more, I'm not too keen on the new NRJ design.

#5709 27.09.2025 Day one of the Whisky Live 2025, which this year looks better organized/arranged inside. This is also a pretty good release, but I did expect a bit more from a Velier release. Fruty with some esters, light leather, well integrated wood, glue and faint marzipan. Medium spicy with a light bitterness on the palate.

Ahhhh what a kick! I must admit I had high expectations of this keel, but I wasn't disappointed. Quite a lot of solvent, with the aeration of old wood notes, the beginning of exotic fruits that are a little pushed, and some spices. On the palate, everything explodes at once, with a crazy intensity, perhaps a touch of biting alcohol I grant you, and still a good dose of leather. I love it!

Whisky Live Paris 2025 - to be tasted again to confirm the score and notes The older the better is not always true. Yet this release, 7 years older than previous NRJ 2006 VRW, is pretty good. Intense, with a combination of overripe fruits, agrumes, wood and spices, is a great rum

Vale Royal 2006 - 65 % A superb nose, concentrated and promising... but on the palate, it's a different story: unbalanced, too acidic and spicy. A little disappointing for a 19-year-old full tropical. Guyana 2004 - 53.1% Another full tropical, this time 21 years old! Since the end of the collaboration between Velier and DDL in 2015, we no longer expected to see a Guyana stamped Velier, so this is a real surprise from WL 2025. Even if the blend of stills and marks remains rather mysterious, the result is pleasant, gourmand, with a style that evokes Versailles. A tasty rum, without being overwhelming, for its age and origin. 👉 A clear preference for Guyana over Jamaica! And a special mention for the old-school yellow and red labels, very successful.
