👃 = Fresh nose mixing coconut, nut, mango, caramel, brown sugar, woodiness as well as a bit of solvents and vanilla. 👄 = This spirit remains expressive on the palate with chocolate and apricot and little roundness. The finish is rather long, peppery, herbal with a bit of bitterness. This interesting old rum is better enjoyed as an aperitif than as a digestif in my opinion 👍

28.02.2026 Retasting at the "Nordlichter Treffen 2026". ------------- #5778 28.09.2025 Day two of the Whisky Live 2025, which this year looks better organized/arranged inside. Finally Shakara hit the sweet spot with this release. Far better than the previous ones and really well balanced in the profile. Wood and ABV are near perfectly balanced with the coconut, chocolage, nutts and dried fruit.

Tasted in sample twice. Nose and palate quite characteristic of Thai rums similar to Foursquare with coconut and caramel notes. Alcohol a bit too present. A bit of glue on the nose. A slight tannic bitterness on the palate. Finish ends with freshness. Good value for money.

Second edition of Shakara rums, this 15-year-old rum almost continues what the first batch offered. The nose is extremely pastry-like, with aromas of toffee, caramel, chocolate, and nuts (walnut and coconut) omnipresent. The spicy and vanilla woodiness enhances the excess of indulgence. A very concentrated olfactory candy. The palate is very soft, syrupy, and has a very comforting smoothness. It has a pastry profile, on toffee and caramel, almost viscous, coated with chocolate, coconut, and vanilla, sprinkled with spices (chili). It feels like drinking a liquid cake. Honestly, it's a straightforward profile meant for pleasure. Not a great rum, but very easy to drink and will allow novices to explore other terroirs. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish, moderately long, follows the same line as the nose and palate: nuts, coconut, mild spices, caramel, toffee, and extreme sweetness that blend into a glug that sticks a bit to the palate. A friendly, accessible Thai rum with a very interesting quality/price ratio, more concentrated than the first edition but not revolutionary.

An even better sipper than the rum from earlier, maybe because nothing vegetal is recognizable here. Instead, it has only a light but very pleasant sweetness, consisting of chocolate, vanilla, caramel and coconut.

Compared directly to the 12-year-old Shakara, this one is clearly racier and more intense and yet at the same time more balanced and harmonious. Caramelized coconut chips, creamy mango sticky rice as well as strong spicy sweet coffee with cinnamon. For the money, I am extremely positively surprised! Thanks Lukas for the split!

Yeah. Stable blend that hardly differs from the 12-year-old. So a young, cheap Foursquare profile-wise—but from Thailand. You can't go wrong with it. But just go for the 12-year-old, nice easy sipper in a beautiful design. Too bad you can't get it in Thailand.

I am really surprised! Nice tropical notes, vanilla, wood, plus younger fruity esters that remind me of Guyana Diamond like Eldorado 1998 CBH. Really good! Unfortunately bottled a bit thin.

Whisky Live Paris 2025 - to be tasted again to confirm the score and notes. A good easy-sipping rum with an amazing price-quality ratio. Sweet and tasty, with caramel and vanilla plus some wood on the palate. 5 years of ageing make the profile rounder and add a lot of complexity. This rum yet somehow recall a foursquare, but it's really intense for the price tag.

Tasted during RFP 2026. Slightly more complex than the 12, a good sweet rum. I think for the price is rather go for the 12, which is less complex and more straight forward into sweetness. That's not something I'd have for myself, but for a beginner that's not a bad choice.

A rum immediately pleasant on the nose, providing immediate pleasure. Almost too easy. A dull sweet heaviness. Oak woodiness maybe a bit too much at least for me. A bit of spicy acidity on the palate. Could even remind of a sherry or oloroso finish... Cool although the caramelized side becomes almost a bit cloying after a while... I think I prefer the 12 year.
