Un rhum dégusté au Whisky Live Paris 2025. Un nez auquel il manque un peu de complexité, mais avec des esters, de la vanille de bois neuf, un côté bonbon et du caramel. Des beaux arômes espagnols en bouche, sucrosité et caramel amer, réglisse, épices et bois neuf. Mais aussi des fruits et quelques esters. La finale est courte mais le caramel amer reste très longtemps. Un rhum dominicain qui sort du lot mais qui peine à me convaincre.

#5719 27.09.2025 Day one of the Whisky Live 2025, which this year looks better organized/arranged inside. This is an OK release with a nice ans spicy palate. fruits, coffee and some light chocolate notes balance out the wood in the profile that also has a light leather touch.

Lots of wood, smoky, and Spanish influences. PX/sherry-like notes. Dark chocolate, coffee, wood and caramel are prominent. The finish is slightly dry, glue, smokey and long. Alcohol is well-integrated.

Typical rum from the Dominican Republic. Lots of wood, coconut, roasted notes, coffee and caramel. Other aromas like dried fruits and some chocolate in the finish are only partially perceived. Alcohol well integrated.

So nun endlich mal die drei neuen Abfüllungen der Flag Series probiert. So ganz überzeugen konnte mich der Dominikaner auch nicht wirklich. Nicht schlecht, aber das besondere fehlt hier dann doch für den Preis der aufgerufen wird.

Tasted at Whisky Live Paris 2025: Very rich, marked notes of chocolate, coffee, a hint of cooked fruits and a nice depth. Not bad, but I mainly remember the nose, very pleasant.

I dont remember drinking rums from Dominican Republic before. This rum did sit in the glass for a good 15 minutes before the review. On the nose: Woody, roasted, coffee notes dominate the nose profile. Glue notes did appear after the did sit in the glass. Light roasted coconut notes and light raisin notes at the back. Dry. Taste: Woody notes, dried fruits, some spices are in there too. Coffee. Chocolate. Light caramel notes. Good integration of alcohol. In overall, palate is missing richness and intensity. Finish: Woody notes. Spicy notes. Light Dark chocolate notes. Roasted. Dry. Light creamy mouthfeel at first, but finishes lightly bitter. Misses intensity and richer palate in order to receive higher score.

Cette cuvée met le cap sur la République Dominicaine afin de promouvoir et premiumiser le rhum hispanique. Le nez est assez vif avec pas mal de notes typiques du terroir dominicain : on retrouve le chocolat, les épices (piment, poivre, vanille), le caramel, la noix de coco et le raisin sec sur un profil moelleux et très conventionnel. Une petite touche de bourbon ressort en arrière-plan. L’attaque en bouche est assez goûtu avec pas mal de notes rôties qui amènent une certaine amertume. Les saveurs partent vers le chocolat et le café, mais aussi le bois, les épices, le caramel chaud et le sucre brun, le tout accompagné de légers fruits secs et de notes pâtissières. Bien que ce ne soit pas un profil révolutionnaire, cela reste un rhum dominicain sympathique, dopé aux hormones et avec une bonne intégration de l’alcool. La finale n’est pas très longue et reste dans la continuité de ce qui a été évoqué sur les arômes : chocolat noir, piment, notes rôties, bois, raisin sec et caramel restent sur leur position, à la fois gourmande et vive. Ce n’est pas le meilleur profil de cette série, mais on salue l’effort de mettre ce terroir à l’honneur, bien que souvent décrié, avec une cuvée qui sort un peu du lot.

A rather unusual profile for Dom Rep. Besides coffee, chocolate, and raisins, and intense sherry and nougat notes, you can also taste a relatively strong Maggi and herbal salt aroma, as well as bitter-sweet licorice candies. Basically good but not really the profile I prefer for Dom Rep...

Dominican Republic 2008 – 60.8% Named Hispaniola after its discovery by Christopher Columbus in 1492, the Dominican Republic was the first Caribbean territory to host sugarcane. After a long sugar tradition focused on export, the first major rum brands appeared there in the 19th century. Aged 14 years locally, this rum then benefited from a maturation in Madeira cask under continental climate. The profile is clearly on the ron, sweet and round, but the finish is too short leaving a feeling of incompleteness. It remains below the Thailand 2016, which is more expressive and better balanced.
