Here's the surprise: this Barbados rum drinks more like a Jamaican, and several tasters said they'd have guessed island wrong blind. Expect esters, a metallic, medicinal edge, pineapple and banana, spice and toasted oak, with a slightly smoky note that reminds some of whisky. At 50.5% the alcohol is mostly well-tucked, though a few find it thin. Pleasant and creamy, if a touch one-dimensional.

#5747 28.09.2025 Day two of the Whisky Live 2025, which this year looks better organized/arranged inside. This one wasn't really me. Pretty sweet and some of the Barbados spirit was missing in my mind. Fruity with good ABV and wood integration.

viel tropische Frucht, schöne Süße, etwas kräutrig und bisschen Chemiebaukasten an der Nase. Am Gaumen getoastetes Holz. Schöne Trinkstärke Muss sagen. der gefällt mir ziemlich gut für den Kurs (aktuell unter 60 EUR).

Goûté 2 fois au rhumfest 2026 et en sample. A chaque fois j ai préféré le old Greg pour son fruité. Ici il y a un côté métallique que j apprécie moins. Le nez parrait plus complexe avec du medicamenteux , du floral, fruité jaune.Bouche un peu acide ,épices et caramel .Finale plus courte.

"This exceptional batch owes its name to the Vulcan, a three-chamber still dating from the 19th century, the last original example still in operation. Put back into service in 2018 thanks to the expertise of Henderson “Digger” Skinner, a distillery veteran, it preserves a unique tradition: when it stalls, two hits with a metal bar are enough to restart it," Excellence Rhum tells us! Clearly, the rough side of this old bird is felt. Slightly metallic notes, a good dose of exotic fruits, caramel, almonds, a pinch of spices... It's simple but very beautiful (for this relative youth).

This Stade doesn't really convince me... at least it is exactly the opposite of the previous Stades I know... it lacks fruitiness, esters... simply the funk... it is a simple sipper without edges and corners.

West Indies innovates with this release from the Vulcan still, offering something different from what we’re used to seeing in Barbados. The nose is medicinal, mineral, and metallic, marked by esters and polish notes that sharpen the nostrils. The spicy wood, marzipan, caramel, and tropical fruits (pineapple, banana, mango) give body and structure to this varied and elaborate profile. Very good first impression. On the palate, the profile becomes creamier, probably rounded by buttery, milky, and pastry-like nuances. You find citrus and exotic fruits, wood, and soft spices (vanilla) that bring a lot of roundness. It’s a pleasant rum, almost creamy in the mouth, inviting you to discover other releases in the same style. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish isn’t very pronounced and doesn’t last very long, but it keeps all the creaminess of the palate with pastry, medicinal, mineral, woody, and vanilla sequences. The tropical fruits are present but more restrained. A nice dynamic and very promising profile that bodes well for what’s next.

So now I have tried both new releases from Stades. Somehow not my taste at all. I think I won’t become a friend of the West Indies anymore. This smoky note always reminds me of a whisky. There probably shouldn’t be much more dilution.

I love the story behind the new stills, and this rum here is good first try. I can't wait to see more. I think there is definitely something going on in Barbados at the moment, but I'd like it more if it had a more distinctive profile, it's a bit too similar to Jamaican rum for me.

In der Nase erst vielversprechend durch die prägnante Zuckerrohr-Note. Dann fällt er leider im Geschmack etwas ab und wirkt etwas eindimensional, ist aber noch ok. Der Abgang bietet dann wieder mehr und die Zuckerrohr-Note ist wieder da. Mit Wasser kommt Zitrus und leicht Pfeffer hinzu.

Franchement, très cool ce qu'Alexandre et la WIRD ont fait là. Au nez on a des esters moins en bouche. D'ailleurs le réflexe serait à l'odeur "oh un jamaïcain". Bin en fait non. Cela ce sent par le déficit en fruit. Par contre on a un côté mielleux, fumé, minéral... Il n'y a que moi qui sent des réminiscence du Rockley 1986 ? Curieux de voir l'avenir !

Goûté à l'occasion du Rhum Fest Paris 2026. Je n'ai pas pris suffisamment de notes sur les rhums Stade's mais je me souviens que j'aurais sûrement pensé à un jamaïcain à l'aveugle. Esters, fruits, médicaments. Sympa.

The higher ABV compared to the Old Gregg suits this rum well. The finish is noticeably smoother and longer. Both have a similar flavour profile on the nose and palate. Nothing special, but suitable as an easy sipper.

Endlich mal wieder was ausprobieren. In der Nase eher mild, vom Geschmack her vergoren, leicht säuerlich aber etwas eindimensional. Für die Kohle wäre der nicht meine erste Wahl.

You can taste Barbados, but sharpness and a bit of tingling like "funk" dominate. Metallic notes I read in other reviews, I can understand that too, but not disturbing. Overall tasty, but the story behind it is more exciting than the taste. I'll stick with the 2 bottles I have. Despite 50.5%, almost a bit watery.

Degusté en même temps que le old gregg, je trouve que dans le Vulcan l'alcool est beaucoup plus présent et moins intéressant en terme d'arômes.
