Sipped neat, this is a peach-iced-tea-and-mint kind of rum: yellow fruit, roasted wood, a little honey sweetness and a cooling menthol streak running through it. Loads of tasters kept saying it drinks like a TDL, and mean that as a compliment. The one gripe? At 50% several found it soft, almost watered-down on the palate.

8,5:On the nose, fresh, minty, flowery and earthy molasses, citrus, tropical fruits, cherry and raisins, roasted wood with caramel, chocolate, spicy with allspice, vanilla, bump into our nosetrils.The barrel impact is strong. On aeration, the rum is round, peaches are out, dairy notes, leather and the molasses becomes candied, sweet with honey. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is fresh, balanced with minty molasses, tea, flowery, sweet with honey, candied, oily with roasted wood notes like nuts, caramel, slightly resinous, bitter, when the rum is well rested, spicy with vanilla, fruity with peaches, orange, cherry and dried fruits. 8,4:The finish is rather long, dry&tannic with mineral molasses, fresh, grassy, minty, pairing cognac hints, roasted/toasted wood notes, smoky, spicy and various fruits like dried apricots, raisins, orange. Probably the best Mauritius I've had so far. The nose offers nice dose of wood supported by freshness and earthiness at the same time. The taste clearly reminds me of some TDL's with nice combo of wood, yellow fruits, tea and distinct mint freshness. 50% is just where this becomes superb everyday sipper.

#5784 28.09.2025 Day two of the Whisky Live 2025, which this year looks better organized/arranged inside. This is a very well balanced rum in my mind. Wood and ABV are in very good balance. Fruits, spice and a light mint note only completes the overall yumminess.

What a really delicious rum. Well-balanced, peach, vanilla, a touch of toast, and a lovely sweet hint coming through. Also a bit of mint and fruity like peaches and cherries. Long finish that is easy to enjoy.

After all the Grays that I kept getting "pressed" on me from Gunnar's mega splits, I was a bit saturated with rums from Mauritius. But this one really tasted good to me again after a little Mauritius abstinence.

Yeah, this one is really tasty right now. Pleasantly sweet, just how it should be. Good peach, vanilla, and roastiness on the nose, then on the palate more of a hint of mint alongside the other character traits in this rum.

Very good New Grove, but not the best I've had so far, which is probably due to the 50%. Would have been interesting to drink this rum at 55%. Great aromas, the yellow fruits and mint are especially noteworthy. Wood, spices and honey blend smoothly. Not exactly cheap at 160€.

Very smooth and balanced with beautiful notes of peach, cherry and mint. The similarity to a TDL is even more present in this bottling than in other Grays products. But I really like it. ABV is perfectly fine and hardly present. PLV but exaggerated

🎨 Very beautiful brick brown color tinged with copper reflections. 👃 A first contact under the prism of very juicy peaches, fresh mint leaves, candied oranges, vanilla, spices, soft caramel, all carried by a well-present and blended woody note. You can also detect sour cherries, a hint of dried fruits, roasted oilseeds, coppery notes, and a touch of essential flower oils. 😋 Freshness and fruit! Always those knife-cut peaches, mint, menthol (definitely a TDL side👌), a nice caramel of tropical fruits and citrus, almost jammy. Then come the tannins, the wooden barrel, vanilla and chocolate, a floral side, and maybe even a hint of chewable leather piece. ⛳ Rather long, pleasant, very fresh, soft for 50°, fruity, woody. A bit of bitterness, between citrus like kumquat and 90% dark chocolate, the mint gradually gives way to green tea. 🏅 A very nice blend of two casks from the 2004 vintage. A skillfully dosed reduction, beautiful freshness, elegance, the aromas juggle between a very beautiful island woodiness and lots of fruits. I love the Grays distillery, especially some of their single cask full proof and their 10-year beau plan, excellent QPR in the easy sipper category.

A real blast on nose and palate. Peach iced tea with a good portion of mint. Wood and spices are discreetly present, as well as the honey that provides the sweetness. On the palate and finish, the alcohol is quite weak, so you might feel it is diluted; still not disturbing.

I like the nose of this Gray's best. It promises a potpourri of aromas of fruit, plantiness, and spice. But on the palate, it's a letdown—light, soft, no fruit, some spice, mint, and slight sweetness. Later, a bit of wood... which continues into the finish. It's lacking complexity to reach the top.

If my notes are correct, 2004 marks the arrival of the distillery's first "heavy" rums, so this Inception is the oldest vintage in this style. On the nose, peach, roasted fruit and wood. On the palate, fresher, minty, very oily, obviously woody but not excessively so. A complex, intense juice (even at 50%), and available in very small quantities for France, so you'll have to be quick!

Grays ventures here into a very old and elitist rum marking the beginning of the distillery's renewal. This is a pure product of Mauritius, expressing fresh menthol notes, exotic fruits (peach, citrus) but also well-spiced and vanilla wood, with a touch of cognac and raisins. There is a medicinal side that complements the sweetness of the profile well. A nose full of aromas and captivating. The palate forms a very beautiful harmony between menthol and floral sequences, fruity sequences (dried fruits, orange, grape, peach) and woody, roasted and spicy sequences that give a striking character and stand out. Many could mistake it for a TDL on paper. The cognac cask also has its effect. The alcohol is very well integrated, proof of the quality of maturation. The finish is long, more tannic and spicy, with notes of chili but also a more pronounced toasted wood in the mouth. The freshness at the very end of the mouth is welcome to balance the debate. A very beautiful product that attests to the rising quality of the island's rums in the premium segment.

A good drop from Mauritius. The nose offers a pleasant woody note, simultaneously underlined by freshness and earthiness. The taste clearly reminds me of some TDLs with a nice combination of wood, yellow fruits, tea and a pronounced mint freshness. At 50%, this is an excellent rum, but for the price I won't buy a bottle. It could have handled a bit more punch.

Whisky Live Paris 2025 - to be tasted again to confirm score and notes New Grove confirms its high potential also with this release. Yellow tropicale fruits, mango and peach, but also fresh Mint dominate the profile while the barrel is not overwhelming.

08/11/2025: tasted @ Spirits In The Sky 2025. This was a nice surprise. It shares some similarities with a TDL, which I like. The alcohol is integrated well. I'm not sure if it's worth the price though...

New Grove Inception 2004 - 50 % This 2004 vintage, made from molasses and column-distilled, aged 21 years in a combination of Limousin oak and old cognac casks. Bottled at 50%, it is the oldest rum in the distillery, if not on the whole island. The profile is complex and intense, with an elegant woodiness and a lovely peach note that lengthens. Without being flashy, it's one of the WL's pleasant surprises, thanks to its finesse and balance.

Encore un superbe New Grove. Très content d'avoir pu mettre la main sur un sample et d'avoir goûté cet Inception. Moins fruité qu'à l'accoutumée, plus mentholé aussi. Boisé, épicé. La palette est large et évolutive. Seconde dégustation : j'avais sensiblement sous-estimé ce superbe rhum. Bel équilibre, belle complexité, belle puissance. Un Émotion 1969 boosté. Très bon !

In the glass it presents with a nice dark color, perhaps due to its long aging but it is not too viscous, rather quite slippery, I expected a stickier viscosity. On the nose it has a good scent of fruit and spices and is very pleasant and balanced! On the palate it is very interesting and I find the alcohol level very well balanced. At first it is slightly closed, but after a very short time it opens up a lot both on the nose and especially on the palate. It has a finish that is not too long but nicely decisive. I liked it a lot and find it interesting, I also recommend it as a not too demanding but quality drink. I was impressed, it was very interesting. Obviously taste is always subjective.

New Grove Inception 21 years 50° Bottle opened for a few months. Great product, there's enough to make a nice tasting. I find that New Grove is quite underrated, and that's a good thing, because the prices are still affordable for a 21-year tropical aging...

The first impressions on the nose are very soft, roasted peaches, a bit of mint, vanilla from the wood, quite light and creamy, captivating. On the palate, surprisingly, there are notes of cherries as if it were a kirsch tart, then white tropical fruits make their appearance. The 50° ABV is welcome, really a beautiful integration of the alcohol, an exceptional product.
