Most tasters land in the high 8s on this Swell de Spirits navy blend, with one real running argument: it's sold as a navy blend but smells almost entirely like Hampden. A few find that too one-sided; most don't care because the glass is so good — fermented pineapple and banana, glue and rubber, briny olive, then roasted wood, chocolate and a dark Caroni-style dirt on the palate. At first nose, Jamaica dominates. Then, as it aerates, the TDL with its mango aromas expresses itself more and more. All accompanied by a nice depth brought by the Caroni. On the palate, a nice balance but funky. Still those exotic fruits, pineapple, mango, wood, and a slightly dark, even dirty side. Long and dry finish. Now that's some good work!

#5857 13.10.2025 Relaxing with a few samples hoping that my upset stomach will come to an end. Nose Fresh, wood, roasted, dried fruit, light cherry, light cinnamon, faint floral, fruity, light citrus. Palate Oily, wood, faint smoke, faint rubber, fruits, light chocolate, banana, light cherry, light citrus, faint coffee. Finish Long and warm, wood, mango, medium dry, oily, light nutts, light cherry. Empty glass Chocolate, berries, light rubber, faint leather, light floral.

Erster Eindruck, aber kann jetzt schon sagen, dass er mit Abstand der stärkste Navy Blend für mich ist, der dieses Jahr rausgekommen ist. Da liegen für mich Welten zwischen dem Swell Navy Blend und dem Ricci RumX und dem SOTD.

Je commence une bataille de Navy Rum. Après l'excellent Velier Royal Navy, voici un blend qui s'annonce des plus funky. 👃 Ok, on a plus l'impression d'avoir un blend jamaïcain et hampdenien qu'un assemblage classique de Navy Rum. Ce n'est pas un problème. Arômes de pâtisseries et de beurre qui s'estompent rapidement pour laisser place aux esters, beaucoup d'ananas et de bananes fermentées, de citronnelle, d'huiles essentielles, d'acétone, de vernis, de caoutchouc neuf, de baskets encore dans leur boîte, de cuir synthétique, d'olive en saumure et d'enchoïades. En retrait, fraîcheur mentholée, thé vert et cerise aigre dans un boisé de chêne rôti du plus bel effet. 😋 On retrouve davantage les différentes régions qui font la réputation des Navy Rum. Torréfaction de café et de chocolat premium au piment (Guyana), fraîcheur mentholée (TDL), empyreumatique de goudron chaud et de diesel (Caroni) et ce mix typique d'ananas caramélisé, de vernis, de caoutchouc et d'olive (Hampden). En retrait, amertume d'agrumes surmûris, note de pamplemousse, cerise aigre, fruits tropicaux légers, thé vert. La sensation huileuse et intense est très agréable. ⛳ Longue, chaude, astringente, tannique, sèche. Un lit de fruits tropicaux laisse rapidement place à l'amertume de la noix concassée, du chocolat au piment et de grain de café doux. Fraîcheur de menthe poivrée, eucalyptus qui s'installe durablement sur les parois de la bouche et dans le gosier, thé vert léger. 🏆 Un très bon assemblage avec cette particularité d'avoir les odeurs très axées sur le profil Hampden. La bouche se veut plus en phase avec les différentes origines sélectionnées, Guyane, mais surtout TDL et Caroni. Le Navy Strength lui va comme un gant, l'ABV étant très bien intégré. 🏅 89 > 90, +1pt pour l'approche très Hampden, que j'adore. Un Navy marqué par la Jamaïque mais qui reste cohérent et qui a le mérite de proposer une approche moins classique qu'à l'accoutumée 📝 Note à ajuster plus tard en fonction des autres Navy Rum du lot ; Ricci x RumX et Spiritoftheday. Le Velier Royal Navy est entre 91-92 pour moi. Je recherche aussi les Navy Blend de chez RumClub pour faire le comparatif.

Swell de Spirits Adventskalender: für mich sehr sehr Hampden lastig. Viele tropische Früchte, andere typische Navy Blend Noten sind für mich nur dezent zu schmecken. Dennoch war das ein super geiler Rum!

heute drei Navy blends im Vergleich: der RX Ricci, Spirit of the Day und der Swell. Der Ricci und SotD sind sich ähnlicher mit getrockneten Früchten, Gummi, Werkstatt, Frische, beim Ricci geht es mehr Richtung Würze, beim SotD mehr Menthol (und Pflaumenmus?). Der Swell fällt etwas aus der Reihe, mehr Funk (er wurde aber fairerweise auch als Funky Navy verkauft). Am Gaumen gefällt mir der Ricci ausgesprochen gut.

What a crazy Navy rum...this is by far the wildest Navy I've ever had in my glass... Jamaica clearly dominates the nose with its funk... but on the palate, there's a wild explosion of flavors from Guyana, Trinidad, and Jamaica... and surprisingly, it all harmonizes very well. I'd love to see more experiments like this...even if, for me, this is no longer a true Navy rum.

Très interessant ce Navy Blend. A mon sens pas des plus équilibré, au nez c’est très (bon) Hampden, mais la texture huileuse, le côté presque médicamenteux en bouche sur la banane, avec une belle finale pimentée et torréfiée.. y’a du relief, y’a du peps, y’a de la Jamaïque.

While to funky for my personal „Navy Rum preference“ this is an amazing blend. On the nose Hampden is clearly taking front row with lots of funk and tropical fruits. The other components are enhancing this nicely, creating a rich and deep profile. This reminds me somewhat of the 83 Hampden HGML batch. The picture on the palate is more balanced. And again very rich and complex with (less) funk, tropical fruits, some dirt, wood, spices and notes of milk chocolate as well as tea. Very nice.

Ça sent la Jamaïque à plein nez avec quelques particularités. On a une impression de yaourt à la fraise également. La bouche est très Jamaïque également. La fin de bouche apporte un peu de variétés où on peut deviner qu'il y a eu un mélange. Intégration de l'alcool au top. Excellente texture surtout en entrée de bouche.

A rather unusual Navy profile. On the nose, initially very top-fermented fruit, ester acidity, and a slight freshness. The first sip on the palate bursts with completely unexpected notes of burnt rubber from Caroni, which immediately turn into menthol on the cheeks—it's all there! A very interesting bottling, it's a shame I don't like TDL menthol—thanks to Daniel for the sample, love goes out for that ❤️

Sehr guter Blend! Es dominiert vor allem Hampden und auch TDL. In Anhang kommt auch eine Spur von tropischen Caroni Noten. Guyana kann ich nicht rausschmecken.

Navy Blend von Swell de Spirits. Für einen Blend unausgewogen (auch wenn es ein Funky Blend sein soll), da Hampden sehr deutlich dominiert. Andere Noten sind eher unterschwellig (Bitternoten, leicht Menthol). Mir gefällt er trotzdem, aber auch nur weil Hampden mag. Hat eine schöne Zitrusfruchtnote.

Wenn hier kein Jamaica am Start ist, fress ich einen Besen. Dazu kommen etwas schmutzige Noten, als auch etwas Minze. Der Jamaicaner ist in der Nase deutlicher als am Gaumen. Hier bestechen zusätzlich Nuancen aus Guyana oder Trinidad (?)y Sehr schönes Teil…da wäre eine Flasche toll.
