Discovery of the new New Grove 10 years which has been boosted by 2° alcohol, going from 40 to 42%. Blend of molasses rum aged minimum 10 years up to 14 years. Aging took place in old Bourbon and Cognac barrels. The cane origin comes from the Beau Plan parcels. 👃 Lots of basket fruits both tropical (mango, papaya, passion) and orchard (peach, apricot). Beautiful island spices, fresh vanilla and garden mint leaf. A bit of complexity on a pretty soft caramel with raisins in the background. A nose above all fruity, light and fresh. 😋 The same fruits still present, with even a bit of bitter cherries at times. Gradually the fresh and ripe fruits evolve into a caramel of fruit sugar, like a compote left too long in the pot turning towards caramelization. The spices are not left behind (vanilla, pink pepper). Mention for the 2 extra degrees of alcohol which give more depth on the palate than the old 40% version. ⛳ Medium to short length, it gives way to slightly more acidic fruits, on citrus. Light spices and a touch of mint. 💡 So yes it lacks length and intensity, but marketed around 55-60 euros, this rebranding of New Grove 10 years is an excellent quality-price ratio. It is on my list of the 10 best molasses QPRs, just that. A must have. Heartfelt favorite.

Tasted at Whisky Live Paris 2026. An easy-to-drink New Grove: vanilla, yellow fruits, caramel, woody notes. It's pleasant but too reduced to be totally to my taste. Rather enjoyable.

Bought today at the shop of the Sugar Museum in Mauritius. It was under 50€. Will try it at home. The first little sample was by far better than the "old" 10-year-old in the red tube. Goes much deeper and isn't so watery in taste.
