8,0:On the nose, sandal wood, toasted with leather, caramel, spicy with allspice, vanilla, obvious wine, cognac barrel impact, citrus, dried fruits, grapes and banana, slightly sulphurous, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, red fruits, currants, dark berries arise, flowery, earthy molasses. 7,6:On the palate, the attack is thin, slightly sweet, buttery with toasted wood notes like caramel, nuts, brown sugar, leather, spicy vanilla, allspice, barrel impact is strong, as we notice tannins, dryness, the fruits are dried with currants, apricots, raisins, grapes, as the molasses is mineral, earthy, herbaceous, vegetal with dry red pepper. 7,2:The finish is short, dry and tannic, with rec wine and cognac notes. I have to say, I like it quite a bit. It has a really pleasant sweetness on the palate, especially caramel is noticeable. Also, a hint of vanilla and wood can be detected here. I think it's a nice daily sipper.

Trade fair review. Intense cask influence which unfortunately doesn't really suit me. Those who like intense red wine combined with very sweet and estery rums might get their money's worth here. Price-performance ratio certainly good.

So this Planteray collection wasn't that good at all. I tried all the samples now, but there really wasn't one I personally needed or would recommend. All seem diluted despite the dilution, watered down and still mostly alcoholic and have such an artificial sweetness.

Tasted this rum along with two others from the Planteray series. A Barbados finished in apricot casks and another Fiji finished in peated whiskey casks. This Fiji took second place for my taste because here the cask has the least dominance among the three bottlings. The nose impression is very unspecific and the ABV is well hidden. The palate impression is more aromatic. Quite a nice spice and wood note. Would I have guessed a Pauillac finish without knowing? No. The bottling is on the dry side with a medium spicy/woody finish.

Caramel sweetness, dried fruits, a bit of pepper and clove. On the palate with slightly nutty spicy aromas as well as subtle lactic acid from the wine cask. Surprising sharpness in the finish, reminiscent of chili. Not unpleasant, but unfortunately overall not balanced enough.

#7282 02.09.2026 Relaxing with a few samples while watching a Bollywood action movie on Amazon prime. Pretty decent rum especially when looking at the price tag. Well rounded profile with fruits, roasted wood, chocolate, caramel, spice, leather, tobacco, tannins and caramel.

[German Rum Festival 2026] The 2017 distilled column-still rum first aged 3 years in bourbon barrels, then 1 year and 4 months in Ferrand Cognac barrels, and finally an unusually long 3 years and 6 months in a Pauillac red wine barrel. The Planteray Fiji Islands 2017 is a characterful, fruit-forward rum with a clear influence from the Pauillac barrel. Overripe pineapple and candied fruits combine with blackberries, vanilla, and dark chocolate. On the palate mild and slightly sweet, while tannins, wood, and spices provide structure. The tart-fruity finish feels dry and elegant. An exciting combination of tropical fruit and red wine barrel. The Pauillac finish is the decisive point here: it brings clearly more dark berries, tannin, and tart dryness to the profile than one would expect from a typical Fiji rum. Kirsch whisky especially highlights blackberries and dark forest berries.
