#5843 11.10.2025 Visiting the Whisky Live Hamburg 2025 event. It was the first of its kind and went off pretty well. They still have to learn a lot about running an event like this. People were allowed to bring backpacks and even cabin bags to the event and that is a problem in my mind. A very nice and well balanced release. Fompared to the Whisky Live Hamburg 2025 reease, this one is less spicy and more mineral in the profile. Wood and ABV is well balanced with the fruits, sugarcane and light leather. Peppery palate with some added cinnamon.

A very interesting and spicy J.Bally. On the nose, I get lots of spices and wood. Then come citrus fruits, cherry, berries like currants, and something floral. It gives the impression of an Armagnac. The palate is very spicy but starts with a beautiful sweetness that leads into cherry, dried fruits, currants, and pear. Nuts, leather, and tea transition into herbs and again Armagnac, which then settles with roasted notes. The finish is long, spicy, and complex. Wood, pepper, herbs, and allspice give way to chocolate and cherry. Then the floral note returns in tea and menthol. The finish ends with slightly earthy aromas. This rum is not for those with a sweet tooth or A.H. Riise drinkers, but a real recommendation for anyone experienced with Agricole or Armagnac. An impressive aromatic profile and complexity. Tasted at Whisky Live 2025: Successful bottling from WDC. Wonderful aroma play: pleasant sweetness with cherry and red berries, which then transitions into a spicy note. ABV very well integrated.

Great Agricole! Not enough for a top rating because there is a “sharp” note that somewhat spoils the perfect enjoyment. Wet wood? Thanks to FischeJ for the nice sample, the rum will be tasted again.

J.Bally Brut de Fut No. 2 this evening. Here is the WDC. The nose is very pleasant and fits perfectly...a lot of wood, toastiness and leather on the palate...fruit is only subtly perceptible...the old whisky-cherry bottling has a little more to offer. The finish is long and after the initial dark aromas, dried fruit joins in late. Another very good bottling

This rum took about 40-60 before it started to open up. On the nose: Intense. Woody and spicy notes upfront with some mineral notes. Agricole notes in the background and little bit of citrus notes. Taste:Intense. Woody. Cherry notes. Roasted notes. Then i get some mineral notes, little bit of sugarcane notes and little bit of leather notes in there. Quite balanced Finish: Woody notes, herbal and tea notes. Menthol notes. Light pepper notes. Long finish. Very woody and quite intense in the beginning, but after it started to open those cherry notes and overall palate started find its balance,i really liked it and i think it is a great rum. I really liked the finish too.

Nice color! Very warm and strong on the nose. Wood, spices, caramel. Red fruits. Oily, full in the mouth. Woody sweetness. Warm, long finish. Also very nice. Top craftsmanship. For an Agricole very full-bodied. Very nice cask choice. Thanks to Bonn for the great sample!!

And another Bally right after, even a notch better than the first. Also typically Agricole, very woody and spicy, still mineral and floral on the nose, peppery and also very mild on the palate. Top rum anyway.

A syrupy sweet-spicy note on the nose, plus dried fig, allspice. On the palate, prune, nutmeg, plus (as a kind of contrast) a tart, bitter note. I really like it, almost a little reminiscent of the '99 LMDW.

More on the woody, spicy side. However, the kish note is also very strong and holds its own. It has a very charged effect, you have to be into that. A little menthol is added with water.

Well, I've had quite a few Ballys in the glass now, there are good and bad ones, but I'm not an Agricole fanboy. For me this one is rather mid-range as it is a bit over the top, as the long time in the barrel is already noticeable.

A great Bally, with a perfect balance despite the ABV. Often Ballys at full proof have overwelming wood and cherry notes, this one is balanced. Spices are all over the glass, along with an earthy note on the palate

On the nose, it immediately stands out with polished noble wood, red fruits, dried fruits, a sweet and full-bodied note with some spices in the background, excellent. On the palate, it's floral, woody with cane, spices (especially pepper), tea, and red fruits, medium finish with a very fine note of cognac. It leaves a very nice dry, woody, and red fruit aftertaste. It lacks a bit in roundness. In the empty glass, wood, aged notes, and red fruits. Thanks to Jens for the opportunity

I was very curious about this bottling, unfortunately it fell a bit short of expectations. It definitely needs time, then an aroma of wood with cherry and light spices develops. On the palate, the alcohol is initially at the forefront, the quite brutal wood aroma really hits hard. At the back, there are still sweet and sour fruit juice notes of cherry and red fruits - but they remain rather pale and almost watery. A shame.

This one is intense. But after half an hour in the glass, somehow also rounded. For my taste, just right in terms of spiciness and bitterness. Great red fruit notes on the nose as well as plenty of spices and lots of wood. Only on the palate do the typical agricole notes come in with herbs/tea etc. Really great drop with an eternally long dark finish.

A very good rum with nicely integrated alcohol. However, I find it slightly astringent on the palate, which bothers me a bit. The finish has a somewhat musty note for me, which I don't like, so my rating is a few points lower because of that.

An intense type of agricole. The nose is very spicy and edgy. Many herbs and conifers rise alongside varnish and citrus fruits. On the palate, it’s surprisingly sweet and comes with intense wood and herbal notes plus some sour cherry. In a blind tasting, one could not distinguish between rum and Armagnac at all.

Read full review ›Rhum powerful, but not too brute, rather like a concentrated distillate that combines the essence of sugar cane, spices and wood. The high alcohol content creates a wonderful texture and helps the Bally to spread throughout the mouth. Aromatically, the Bally is definitely demanding, but not overwhelming.
