A young cask-strength New Yarmouth that reads clearly Jamaican but comes in gentler than its 62% suggests. Most tasters call it good and honest for the money, just short on complexity — a few felt a couple more years in the tropics would have added tension.

For me, as a New Yarmouth junkie, this is once again an interesting bottling from this distillery. Compared to other young New Yarmouths, this one tastes a bit different, which I find successful. For the price, you can only do everything right.

#5845 11.10.2025 Visiting the Whisky Live Hamburg 2025 event. It was the first of its kind and went off pretty well. They still have to learn a lot about running an event like this. People were allowed to bring backpacks and even cabin bags to the event and that is a problem in my mind. This is an OK rum. Fruity with some spices and light esters. ABV should have been higher in my mind as it lacks a punch.

A new Yarmouth base esters, a priori. It's good, but light. Tropical fruits, apple. Lacks a few years in the tropics, very airy. Good at this price, we can't be too demanding...

NY with good value for money. Nose: citrusy and only light esters, lime with green mango and banana plus fine caramel and something like hay or cardboard. Pleasant and not intrusive. 7.8 Palate: very pleasant, light citrus, slightly bitter lemon and a bit bacon-like, herbs and cookie dough, fruit bread. The alcohol could be a bit better integrated, but overall not bad. 7.8

With this young New Yarmouth, a profile of the distillery is presented that I haven't had in the glass before. Clearly recognizable as a column still rum due to the light distillate, it still has enough esters to convey the typical Jamaica feeling. With a bit of air contact, a strong coconut note develops, which bridges to the legendary 1994 vintage. However, it is still somewhat unripe, a bit alcoholic, and has a slightly perfumed floral character that I don't really like. Still, a good rum that raises anticipation for older bottlings of the 2015 NY.

17-10-2025 - Rate 8.6 29-10-2025 - Rate 8.1 27-03-2025 - Rate 8.2 Tested blind with a mate. Immediately had Jamaica in the note. Full of fruit and banana. Some ester in the nose as well. Tasted young. A bit wild at first. Second tast was better. Spic, fruit and ester.

The citrusy and tropical fruits typical for the estery Jamaica profiles find a pleasant counterpoint here in caramel sweetness and a slightly smoky-bitter aroma, which in the finish even somewhat recalls long-drawn green tea. A few more years of aging could add extra excitement, but even after a good decade, the rum leaves a pleasing impression.

On the nose: Pretty mild/light on the nose for a 62%abv rum. Esters, fruity and bananas. Taste: Quite strong at first with esters, woody, fruity, pineapples and quite spicy. Then sour cherry and citrus notes come in. Finish: Sour cherries first and then woody notes with mild pineapple notes. Finishes mildly bitter and dry. Quite good basic rum in its price range, but does lack of complecity.

With this rum, you get what you pay for. A solid NY but without any particularly notable complexity. You can still recognize the distillery, but I'd rather spend 40€ more, then it's fun.

Flensburg Rum Company Awakening Series - New Yarmouth I generally like New Yarmouth, but not this one. Despite more than two hours in the glass, the nose is very restrained. On the palate, however, too alcoholic.

A weird note of old fruit, marshmallows and trester, quite unlike any new Yarmouth I ever had. Interesting, but unfortunately it misses some complexities to be an amazing experience. For the money very solid
