La Maison & Velier Hampden Awakening Series HGML 2020 HGML

It's a high-ester Hampden HGML: a "high ester flavor bomb" of overripe pineapple and banana, glue and funk, with a marzipan note and a little citrus brightness sneaking into the taste. Several tasters love it but wish it had spent longer in the cask — the finish runs short.

Intense high-ester rum with pineapple and tropical fruit on the nose. Complemented by a fine marzipan note on the palate. Typically strong Hampden, convincing even when young. The finish is quite short and not as intense.

A real high ester taste bomb! In the nose, the typical markers with additional citrus fruits that provide a certain freshness. Also very light roasted and cinnamon aromas. Very spicy and slightly salty on the palate. The sweetness is so intense that it is slightly reminiscent of syrup. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. This rum is great fun!

Oh yes, it's really fun. The HGML profile is also very young, but it's still fun because it has those rough edges. I think it's even better than the WLP release

#5844 11.10.2025 Visiting the Whisky Live Hamburg 2025 event. It was the first of its kind and went off pretty well. They still have to learn a lot about running an event like this. People were allowed to bring backpacks and even cabin bags to the event and that is a problem in my mind. This is a great HGML in my mind, so good so that I bought two bottles of it. Intense and fruity with very good ABV and wood integration in the fruity ester profile.

Well, what more can you say about Hampden? Yeah, I've written that a lot already, but it keeps being true. Ester, overripe tropical fruits like pineapple and banana, but also funky and a bit of glue.

Messe-Bewertung Whisky Live Hamburg 2025 Nochmals in Ruhe verkostet: Trotz der Jugend und hohem Estergehalt ziemlich smooth, sehr lecker und fruchtig. Etwas mehr Komplexität und ein längerer Abgang würden ihn noch besser machen, aber auch so eine sehr gelungene Abfüllung.

Tasting mit Kevin in Blåvand, Dänemark Umfangreicher Tasting-Abend. Dieser HGML ist sehr wuchtig, die Nase ist voller Ester, Zuckerrohr und pflanzlichen Früchten. Der Alkohol verfliegt mit der Zeit und der Rum wird milder und zugänglicher. Am Gaumen die erwartete Ester-Explosion, sehr funky und mit einem wilden Mix aus Ananas, Banane und Fassnoten. Damit wirkt er nicht allzu süß und ein wenig kantig hinten raus, sehr angenehm

Danke an Kevin für die Gelegenheit: In der Nase fruchtig, Ester, leicht faul/floral, tropische Frucht, Ananas Im Mund intensiv, adstringend, volle Pulle Frucht, Erster, Floral, Funky Abgang lang, süßlich, adstringend, funky leicht scharf Alkohol super eingebunden, sehr süffig!

Ein herrlich frischer kräftiger HGML… erbringt die volle Ladung Ester und vergorene Ananas, gepaart mit Vanille und Marzipan mit. So muss das sein. Am Gaumen erscheinen zudem etwas Piment- und Röstaromen. Das Ganze ist schön funkig. Gefällt mir sehr gut

Das ist high Ester und genau das bekommt man hier. Schöne intensivität vom ersten riechen bis zum Finish. Ananas vor allem und viele weitere tropische Früchte im Aroma. Geschmacklich ebenfalls es kommt aber auch eine wunderschöne Marzipan Note durch. Bei Hampden weiß man einfach wie man tollen Rum herstellt, der auch im jungen Jahren schon toll schmeckt. Einzig das Finish gefällt mir nicht ganz so gut.

Etwas jung, aber macht dennoch durchaus Laune. Alles was das HGML Profil ausmacht ist da. Für mich könnte er ruhig noch etwas liegen, aber auch so lecker. Vor allem für den Release Preis wirklich gut.

Der macht richtig Spaß. Schön viele Ester, ohne eindimensional zu wirken. Aber auch sehr fruchtig. Spannend sind die Zitrusfrüchte, die plötzlich im Geschmack auftauchen, obwohl man diese in der Nase gar nicht vermutet.

Franconian Tasting Gang Novemver 2025: It wasn't a completely fair duel, of course, against the RA 1983 HGML (RX328, thanks to Dom), but the 2020 didn't go down completely. It has everything I expect from my favorite Hampden brand HGML, even if I would have liked to give it a little more time in the barrel.

Nose intense, esters, creamy fruity (although not as creamy, yoghurt like the parallel tasted <>H Single Cask). But with more wood (positive). In the mouth, everything you'd expect from Hampden HGML. A little wild perhaps. In addition, a nice barrel impact that is not too intense. Nice subtle bitterness on the finish.
