The surprise nobody saw coming — an Indonesian single cask that tastes like almost nothing else on the shelf. Pear, sour cherry and candied fruit sit next to genuinely odd savory notes: cheese rind, yogurt, grilled green pepper, smoky roasted tobacco. I'll say it upfront: for me this rum is THE surprise from the first Whisky Live Hamburg. Completely inconspicuous, without known details, only 66 bottles and a 65€ fair price, a real value for money steal. And nose and palate deliver unusually well. Nose: quite complex and different. Fruity-spicy with fine smoky notes and interesting hints of cheese and yogurt. Initially really nicely fruity-sour-sweet, pear, sour cherry, gooseberry. Added is a fine sweetness of candied fruits. Together with anise and other spices, it also reminds of gingerbread and honey cake. When you put your nose deeper into the glass, roasted tobacco scents and a pleasant cheesy note, melting cheese or light blue mold, come in. At the back, you also find herbs and pepperoni and cardamom. I'm really impressed. 8.4 Palate: Similar impressions here. Spicy-fruity and right at the start this somewhat odd but not unpleasant cheese note. Again pear and cherry and slightly bitter grapefruit. Dry with pepper and nutmeg, pleasantly smoky-roasty. At the back herbs and vegetal towards pepperoni. At the end again a good amount of tobacco. 8.2 Which Indonesian distillery could this be? Naga? Doesn't matter, nice single cask, good %, good rum.

#5853 11.10.2025 Visiting the Whisky Live Hamburg 2025 event. It was the first of its kind and went off pretty well. They still have to learn a lot about running an event like this. People were allowed to bring backpacks and even cabin bags to the event and that is a problem in my mind. This is also a light rum with a spicy touch. The ABV could have been better integrated. Fruity with some medicinal notes.

Tried together with DomM during a sample swap. I have to admit that this bottling, although outside my comfort zone, quite impressed me. I don't know anything like this at all. I like it very much.

Dies ist ein sehr interessanter, indonesischer Rum mit ordentlich Kraft. Die Nase beginnt intensiv, würzig mit Gewürzen, Birne, Pflaume, kandierten Früchten, blumigen und kräuterigen Aromen. Dann folgen Früchte, etwas Joghurt und rauchig, röstige Noten. Am Gaumen ist er sehr intensiv, würzig und den Alkohol merkt man deutlich. Zitrusfrüchte, Birne, Gewürze, Holz, süße Früchte und Grapefruit. Dann kommt eine interessante käsige Note, welche dann mit Muskatnuss und rauchigen, röstigen Noten auf die würzige Seite zurückkehrt. Der mittellange Abgang hat Holz, Röstnoten, Gewürze, Kardamom, Leder, getrocknete Früchte, Tabak, pflanzliche Noten und wieder schöne Raucharomen. Wenn man außergewöhnliche Profile sucht, ist das hier schon ein Highlight und jede Erfahrung wert. Mir machen vor allem die milchigen und rauchigen Seiten dieses Rums wirklich Spaß.

An der Nase recht fruchtig und pflanzlich, fast ein wenig in Richtung Savanna-Gummibärchen. Am Gaumen dann noch mehr in eine pflanzliche Richtung. Etwas Thai-Basilikum und Tabak-Blätter. Ein wirklich neuartiges Aromaprofil. Für mich persönlich DIE Überraschung der ersten Whisky Live Hamburg. Das Profil könnte noch etwas komplexer sein, aber auch so ein wirklich spannendes, leckeres Profil. Gelungene Fassauswahl von FRC und mal etwas wirklich anderes, Gratulation!

Pretty funky on the nose with spices and rotted fruits balanced by some sweetness. Way less funky on the palate. Quite pleasant and approachable. Lots of citrus notes in a candy coated sweetness. Some hints of vegetables balance this candy side of the profile.

Nice light and soft nose with yellow continental pulp fruits, sweet spices even light creamy notes. The taste is different though, quite biting and spicy with citruses and wood more present.

I have never tasted rum made in Indonesia and my arrack bottle from Indonesia has totally different nose profile. That's a one way to start this review, I guess. On the nose: I don't know how to exactly describe this. Light, alcoholic. Mixture of fermented/rotten/vinegar notes is the dominant note. Under that these is some sugarcane notes. Taste: Alcoholic, sugarcane notes. Roasted. Salty.Somekind of slightly fermented,acidic olive brine note? Finish: fresh, green, olive brine. Roasted. Sugarcane. Dry. Now, this rum was way different than any rum that i have tasted so far and not in a bad way. Strange notes, but i kinda liked it.

Die Nase des indonesischen Rums ist sogar etwas funky und erinnert mich mit der fruchtigen Säure an Cognac. Am Gaumen auch stark wie Armagnac mit röstigen Tönen, Schafskäse und Gemüse wie gegrillte, grüne Paprika. Der Abgang nochmal röstiger mit grünem Gemüse, welcher aber von einer Süße begleitet wird.

Mhhh somehow not my profile at all. Overall seems unbalanced and a bit bumpy for me. Certainly a decent rum for the price but I wouldn’t want to get a bottle of it.

Flensburg Rum Company Awakening Series - Indonesia. The Indonesia 2015 doesn't convince me. The nose is still quite pleasant. But on the palate, it's alcoholic, sharp-edged, and for my taste too woody. Short, unspectacular finish.
