Well-liked but not a knockout — most tasters land around "well balanced and rounded," a few wish it hit harder. This is the wood-forward, dry side of Martinique agricole rather than the grassy one: dry oak, cinnamon and clove, cocoa and dried nuts, with candied cane and orange in the background. One member preferred it to the 9 and 12 for being rounder. The finish fades fast, so drink it fresh in the glass.

Tasted at Rhumfest Paris 2026, at the end of the day. A good representative of the brand, the value for money is solid. I much prefer it to the 9 and 12 years because I find it rounder. The oakiness is top-notch.

Ce rhum de la Martinique a été vieilli pendant 10 ans et a été réduit à 42,5°. Au nez, on est dans les marqueurs standards de l'agricole du terroir. Pas mal de vanille et de boisé typique Saint James, le rhum apporte aussi des senteurs plus pâtissières de pâte à gâteau, aux accents d'amande douce. Un peu de fruité avec de la figue bien mûre, et d'orange amer. Les 42,5° sont doux en bouche. La vanille et le cacao tapissent la langue. Une légère amertume de réglisse mentholée fait son apparition en fin de bouche. Sinon, beaucoup de chêne dans le palais, du poivré typique et des feuilles de tabac séchées. Un rhum assez frais et passe-partout. La finale est moyenne, et prolonge les saveurs de poivre, Zan et tabac. Un bon petit rhum martiniquais de dégustation pour une fin de repas. Assez convenu mais bien fait.

#6423 02.03.2026 Enjoying a few samples after my training while listening to some heavy Psy Trance. This is a pretty nice bottline with a well balanced profile. Nice fruits and good balance between wood and spices.

This super-drinkable Saint James was a really nice surprise. Smooth and balanced, delivers wood and spices along with some fruits and sweetness. The palate is all about dried nuts and is really chocolated driven

Tasting at Rhum Fest 2026. 👃 Candied dry fruits, more orchard fruits. Slight citrus note. Typical Saint James spices, light clove, cinnamon, mild pepper. This candied cane and earthy background. Quite present wood, alcohol well integrated on the nose. 😋 You find the woody SJ characteristics, this dry and rough wood side. It brings roasting of spices, nuts and chocolate. The dried and orchard fruits like on the nose, accompanied by candied sugar cane. A greener sensation on leaf tobacco, also manioc leaf smoke. ⛳ Medium to short length, I find the aromas fade quickly. Roundness sensation (too much), it's light. You find the spices, roasting, candied cane and a bit of cane earth. 💡 Note to be put into perspective. Fan of heavy molasses, I ended the fair with the agricoles. In this context, I enjoy Martinique agricole rums less and less at the moment. Certainly the lack of power, concentration or this dry, spicy and rough woody sensation that bothers me in the mouth. Good value for money.

Ein schöner Rhum Agricole, der nicht die typischen grasigen Noten in den Vordergrund stellt. Darfur bietet er In Aromen von Frucht, Gewürzen und Holz. Für mich sollte er nicht zu lange im Glas bleiben.
