Mount Gay Single Estate Series Release 25 | 03 | Vt24CF 2024
Anyone curious what an unaged Mount Gay tastes like will find a surprise here: a molasses rum that drinks green and grassy, almost like an agricole. Fresh sugarcane, citrus and floral notes lead, with light prunes and a whisper of rubber and banana underneath. One taster compared it to Hungarian plum pálinka. Oily, naturally sweet, a long sugarcane finish — interesting, not wild.

#5935 08.11.2025 Got this sample today and just had to try it. The price tag is still high, but way better than the aged releases. Nose Fresh, citrus, light prunes, floral, light sugarcane, spice, light caramel, faint rubber. Palate Oily, fresh, naturally sweet, light prunes, light burnt, citrus, light sugarcane, faint rubber, banana, spice. Finish Medium long, light caramel, citrus, light floral, pineapple, light dry. Empty glass Light grass, herbs, light floral, light pear, light anise.

Whilst this is a molasses rum, there’s loads of sugarcane/ grassy flavour making its way through. It’s fresh, sweet (candied & almonds) and spicy. Also on the palette there is some subtle rubber and banana, There is a long sugarcane finish. Cracking rum from the iconic Mount Gay. That this is single estate; limited release; off the Coffey Still and available at a great price (when so many of the special Mount Gay releases have been highly priced) mean I’m glad I picked up a backup bottle.
