#6417 01.03.2026 Relaxing with this sherry bomb while watching the new movie "The Bluff". This rum was destroyed by the cask in my mind and all balance has gone. In my mind an example of how wrong things can go when you cask wrong or for too long.

8,3:On the nose, strong barrel impact with sherry like leather, dried dates, walnuts, meaty tones, slightly overpowering the notes like banana, flowery, herbaceous molasses with briny olive, some yeast, spicy touch. On aeration, the wood is roasted with coffee, cocoa, caramel, the molasses is musty, slightly dark with licorice, but still quite fresh with tea.Red fruits arise, sulphurous undertones. 8,2:On the palate, the attack is strong, syrupy with sherry barrel impact, again slightly overpowering Hampden markers, the oak is charred with dark chocolate, cocoa, meaty, leather and walnuts, peppery, dried fruits like raisins and apricots, dates, pineapple and banana participate, the molasses is bitter, musty, slightly flowery, vegetal with briny olive, chamomile...When the rum is well rested, plastic hints join. 8:The finish is long, due to strong barrel touch, dirty, dry and tannic, with charred wood, smoky, spicy, meaty, pairing dried, tropical, green, red and citrus fruits, slightly rotten and grassy, candied molasses, musty, earthy with tobacco..

Wow, the sherry is way too dominant, it crushes everything. Hampden is basically unrecognizable. Could be some Cuban rum as well.

Love it or hate it, there is nothing in between. Sure the nose immediately show the casktyp and we all know, it’s not the most beloved one in the rumworld, but wait how it’s developing in open bottles. This juice needs time and oxidation.

I just don't understand how you can mess up a Hampden like this. The sherry cask overpowers everything, so sherry, red wine, and wood dominate. A bit of orange peel and mustiness join in — you can't taste anything from the LROK.

As soon as it's in your glass, raisins are flying all around you. A very intense sherry aroma. The same on the palate. Totally not what you expect from this bottle. The cask has completely dominated the rum. No real Hampden influences recognizable anymore. Very sherry and raisin. Alcohol not well integrated. For me, this one is too intense and out of balance.

Tasted at SITS ‘25. The nose immediately reveals the cask type. Notes of dried dates, peppers, salty seabreeze and walnut skins. It smells very sweet, almost syrupy with fermented fruit sugars. Otherwise very bitter and musty, and all round screaming fortified wine more than anything. The HD underneath releases light hints of unripe banana and a strange off-putting yeast and rancid meat note. On the palate again dried fruits, oily citrus and an obscene amount of wine and walnut bitterness. More strange hints of minced meat left out in the sun, burnt wet wood and plastics. Unfortunately even more prominent than on the nose. The finish is much too dominant, astringend and leaves a long lingering taste of cured and rancid meats. Perhaps this is just not my cup of tea, or perhaps I just don’t ‘get it’, but for me this classifies as an experiment gone too far, a faulty product that should not have been bottled. It’s interesting in a way, just like the NRJ TECA ‘03, but done much worse.
