Fermented pineapple, glue and new-sneaker rubber pour out of the glass, then a creamy tropical-fruit sweetness rounds it all off — 28 years in the cask has tamed the ester punch without dulling it. Members almost all say the nose beats the palate, and that it needs a full hour of air to open. At cask strength the alcohol reads remarkably well integrated, and the finish just won't quit.

This Hampden is absolutely amazing. Despite the strong esters, it's extremely harmonious and elegant. The influence of wood and spices fits perfectly too. The alcohol is truly perfectly integrated and the finish lasts forever!

#5910 31.10.2025 Attending Tom and Barbli's wedding in Belgium and it was a monster of an event with a very nice after party the following day. Now this one is a monster and I had to try it more than once because I find it amazing. Luckily I have gotten my hands on one a well and I look forward to getting it. A fruity bomb with nice esters and good balance between all the elements. The finish is forever and even after some water it still remains on your palate.

👃 Phew! Very expressive right from the first nose. I let the glass air for about 1 hour. I was rewarded with everything you can expect from a Hampden high ester with almost 28 years of aging. The first aromas remind me of a creamy and very lightly caramelized pastry with pineapple and candied lemon. Then, lots of overripe fruits (pineapple, banana, jackfruit) in the form of esterified candies. This overripe character also reminds me of the scent of exotic smelly flowers. A large amount of rubber, synthetic leather, and new sneaker glue. I also find a bit of salty tar, this saltiness evolves into smoked fish, spicy anchovy dishes, and green olives. The wood is melted into all this olfactory power, subtly carrying the aromas. The alcohol level is imperceptible at this moment of tasting. In this style, it's a nose close to perfection. 😋 Oily and dry texture. Impressive sensation of intensity and aromatic concentration. A total opposition between on one side overripe tropical fruits and on the other a smoke of salty tar, gasoline, brined olives, and glue. I love this mix of very ripe pineapple pieces and sour cherries in an umami Asian sauce. We can define this palate as representative of the typical Hampden flavor, a joyful melting pot of sweet/salty, bitter/acidity, and sweet-sour. Once again, a background wood that magnifies the flavors. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. ⛳ Long, very long, warm, tasty, salty, spicy, dry, bitter, astringent, esterified to the end. Creamy funk of sweet pineapples and vanilla with chili peppers lingers a long time on the mouth walls and in the throat. 🏆 Complete & complex, intense & evolving, this very old Jamaican rum has aged magnificently, with creamy esters, hyper fruity funk, full of trigeminal and medicinal markers with a long Hampden finish as desired. Released end 2025, this unicorn will certainly be considered one of the best Jamaicans of 2026.

This 97 C<>H from TWJ also manages to impress... they are quite similar... you can clearly sense and define ester, fruit, wood, and spice aromas. Exquisite and expressive.

Oh a Hampden, what should I even write? Of course, there are also way too many overripe tropical fruits, pineapple and banana naturally to highlight here, (as always :)), yet it’s always a very tasty dram...

Simply magnificent... A real knockout from TWJ!! This Hampden is beautiful and shows all the typical characteristics of the brand... and this one is truly magical, especially after an hour in the glass, where it unfolds its full richness that you expect from such a liqueur. Alcohol content is top and a wonderful finish. I think the Hampden and the New Yarmouth got swapped, you can actually tell by the color.

Has everything a good, long matured Hampden needs. Lots of oak, refined in wood - simply a great rum. Anyone who was able to buy a bottle should consider themselves lucky and enjoy it at a good time. Like we did at the weekend. A worthy companion to a great celebration. 🇯🇲🥰🦄 Tasting will be completed again

Nice and creamy, tropical and spicy, with tropical fruits, berries, and a good balance. The rum is quickly enjoyable and overall pleasantly accessible. But it doesn't really blow me away. On the palate and finish, there's some alcoholic sharpness. Compared to the RA JMC, the TWC bottling feels noticeably sharper on the palate. I can't agree with the top ratings. Overall a good continental-aged Hampden, but that's where it stops for me.

Sumptuous... quite simply. Big release from TWJ!! This Hampden is magnificent, with all the usual markers of the name... and this one is truly magical, especially after an hour in the glass where it really takes on the full extent of what you expect from such a juice. Top-notch alcohol, and superb length ❤️❤️❤️

Insane nose as soon as it is poured. Full and round on the palate too, but even better on the nose. Despite the high ester, tamed by the long maturation without being boring. Can be sipped forever in the mouth. Extremely successful bottling, but high price.

So finally, on my random Hampden evening, I finally had this much-praised "Unicorn" in the glass. Okay, I admit, this rum is really good, but personally, I felt it was missing that little something to give it a 9.

A real c<>h tamed by time. The 28 years in cask have done a magnificent job! Very creamy, smooth, it coats the mouth (and for a long time...). Loads of fruit, some glue, alcohol perfectly integrated. An endless finish. The unicorn describes it very well, I'm under its spell.

24/01/2026: tasted @ Liquid Leuven 2026. A really good Hampden, but not on the same level as the first 1997 release from the Whisky Jury in my opinion. The nose was even better than the palate for me.

Very old Hampden. Nose: bright ! Pungent aromas of solvents, esters, glue, fermented pineapple, lemon, kiwi, mango, pumpkin, saffron, lemongrass. Delicate touch of oak & vanilla. Beautiful. Palate: Bright, rich, sour. Fresh overriped pineapple, lemon, oak. Then you feel esters, glue, sour cherry, quince, tar. Maybe little bit of ginger, and some smoke in the end. Very good. Aftertaste: still sour, pineapple, lemon, oak, smoky. After comeback the esters, and arrived the long, fruity, dry finish. Conclusion: Wow, it's a wonderful, but not excellent, because this rum, even had a 28 years of mature, still not enough of complexity. But I love it. Whisky Jury – one of the best rum bottler. Highly recommend !
